Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A
woobman replied to Tommy Tallarico's topic in Intellivision Amico
One of Sneaky V's videos game up in my feed. I got to the part that he stated that it was an overpriced android system.... Paused. Then searched and found a few of the posts about fake accounts etc. So I didn't watch the rest of the video. I think that debate is always welcome. If you have the facts. Sort of like the fake reviews on Gamestop. Would not be surprised if some of those were his. I want that kind of time to troll people. Wow to live in a basement and not have any responsibilities. I remember those days. Most of us grow out of it. Tommy has been more than open with us. We know what we are getting. I think that there are some people who get confused when there is no dual analog sticks. 4 face buttons. Some shoulder buttons/triggers. Most importantly, the controller needs a label on it."Sony or Microsoft". Any time you veer too far from the accepted path, you are called many things. The Third big console company has played around with how you interact with games for years. Some worked and sold well. Some did not. But you can expect different things each console generation from them. At least they innovate. With MS, we've gotten pretty much the same controller since the Duke on the OG xbox. Working with Shape. and refining. With Sony, a few bells and whistles on the same controller as the PSONE. If you look at my signature you can see I'm no fanboy of anything. I've had an iteration of almost all the consoles out there. Some sold better than others. Some were/are more fun than others. Regardless of power. All have their fun games. You do not need to have the latest CPU/GPU to have a great system. We've seen that work for Nintendo how many times now? I still find fun with my 2600 games. My 18 year old son has stopped playing his xbox one and has been playing on my GameCube for the last two weeks. Hours a day. (It happens to be a day one GC). Still running great. While the resolution isn't all there, the fun is! Rediscovering Pikmin. Rogue Leader. etc. Shhhhh don't tell him that I mentioned that he's playing some of the Spongebob games as well. He is still having fun with those games, regardless of resolution. (I'm sure there is a marketing slogan in there). We get to put a little bit of influence on an upcoming console. That is way more than we have been able to do in all previous generations of systems. That is pretty darned cool. Usually they are done in such secrecy that we only get to complain about things after the fact. Like Microsoft's policy on game sharing when the XBONE was announced. Or more recently, the Playstation classic's game lineup. Even more recently, the first showing of the Series X games that whelmed people. A little further back, the WiiU. That was just not marketed right. I could go on with missteps and missed chances from the big companies. But I won't. While at first glance, the specs seem under powered. The games look good for the types of games we have seen. Will we see detailed intestines hanging out of corpse on Splatterhouse 25? No. But will we see a fun game of Moon Patrol, Shark! Shark!, or Skiing out of it? From what we have all seen, yes. Even if the Amico becomes an indie platform. I think we are going to be in for a fun ride with the games lineup that have been announced formally. Plus some that have been even just hinted at. If we get JUST those games on this system, it will be worth the money to me. Especially if we have some of the original minds from the original IP working on the games. -
Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Hey Tommy, I don't think I ever saw an answer to the question about the European version of the Amico VIP. If I read correctly you are adding the names of the EMEA VIPs to the credits in a few games. Will there be something similar for us as well? Selfish mode turned on - What about the active AA members ? My personal vote would be for there to be an easter egg with rolling credits somewhere. Even on the console... If this is hush hush, I'll keep moving along. As there is nothing to see here. -

HA! You need to be less cutting edge.. I still have Raiders and Empire (Can't find Star Wars) on CED! Video Records, they will be the next big thing! I also have a few different version of the Original Trilogy on Laserdisc! 3 discs each movie. You had to be committed to watch something then. I played them a little while back and it was very nice not seeing Ewoks blink. Looking forward to the next announcement! -
Did the 3DO have the first console visualizer?
woobman replied to Rick Dangerous's topic in 3DO Interactive Multiplayer
He was focused on consoles so I stuck with that. You are correct in there were others on computers before. If we were going down that rabbit hole as far as he mentioned in on UseNet therfore he was first, I believe that the The Atari Cx240? Music Machine predates all and was released in 1976 or 1977. Maybe his original inspiration? I played with one. It's amazing for it's time. Think 2600 graphics that react to your music. It was a box with dials and buttons. I'm sure that there is something on youtube or wiki. And I'm sure people hooked up oscilloscopes to watch music as well. I had a stupid laser light show thing in the mid 80's that projected on the wall about the same time. I played everything through that to make a "laser show" Please don't think I am taking away his work. OMG. He is amazing. I played Space Giraffe a few days ago. I currently own several machines JUST for his work. Sadly no Jag CD. Someday! -
Did the 3DO have the first console visualizer?
woobman replied to Rick Dangerous's topic in 3DO Interactive Multiplayer
While I do think that the Jag CD had a better visualizer. The Nuon a few years latter was even better. The XBOX 360 was amazing. All done by Jeff Minter. (Mr. Tempest 2000,3000,4000, and Txk). They are the best viualizers. I miss them being built into the systems. It would be nice to see something in the new machines coming out. even if it were for streaming or mp3... But the title of first would have to go to the 3DO. The Jag CD was announced a month or so before the Jag came out. (November 1993). The 3DO was already on the shelves having come out in October. The Jag CD came around 1.5 to 2 years after. If anything, the people at Atari saw the visualizer and said.. Hey we can do better. And they did!!! -

word scramble the name... No one post a reply to what it may be so we all get the surprise. If correct, we can figure it out and you get the admiration of the people in the forum. -
Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A
woobman replied to Tommy Tallarico's topic in Intellivision Amico
Dangit!!!! I went there to have them tell us if the 7th game was, indeed, packed in. And what it was. Also to tell us what the storage configuration was. (32GB on board/SD slot free or 16Gig on board/SD slot used). I think all of this information would have helped Tommy's decision on what to do and give him less sleepless nights. See, we are looking out for you Tommy!!! We're in this together! -

This was a leak from the atari VCS people.. They Demo'd Tempest 4000 on "actual hardware". Turns out that the linux powered machine did not have a linux binary. That came from a very surprised Jeff Minter... Who wrote the game. That may have been remedied by now. But I haven't been keeping up with the console. Just all the emails I get about all the other stuff the people are doing. Like Hotels. Blockchain. Casinos? -
Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A
woobman replied to Tommy Tallarico's topic in Intellivision Amico
As this has been a few weeks of discovery for me.. I've been playing with emulators and getting them setup and working great. I discovered that there are some 3d settings in some of the emulators out there. I haven't tried yet, so I ordered a pair of Anaglyph red/blue glasses from Amazon so I can test. My Virtual boy is starting to act up a little. hence the need. That being said, a 3D mode for some games like Skiing and others would be a fun little addition. -

I was looking at the packaging for some of the older games. Not just Intellivision. Other systems as well. I miss the art. Love the colorful boxes. Even EA had some awesome boxes back in the day. Look at some of the original games on floppy disk for the C64 or other systems. Even the 3DO Multiplayer had some nice art on the boxes. My original Adventure Cart (in box) is sitting at my desk. Still packing the receipt inside. Then I got to thinking: You have some of the veterans possibly coming on board to help with certain games. If you could get some of the original EA team. 3DO had some fun stuff on their platform. Lucasarts. I know a lot of them are over at Doublefine. That company was purchased by Microsoft last year, but it would be amazing to have some of those games brought back and re-imagined. There are so many good game companies from back when it was a smaller industry. That just scratches the surface. Gotta end it with: Wouldn't that be something? -

I'm a failure.. Missed all of these apps.. I just stopped looking a years ago when there was one fan page called the Well of Souls and the Android App. I've even found a steam app that is free. Who needs money? But seriously Tommy, I think a good number of us would love to see a version of it on the Amico. A big thank you to all that clued me in on all the fun! -

While on the subject of cool things we'd like to see make it to the Amico. I'd love to see a version of Dark Tower. For those of you who do not remember. Among the treasure trove of goodies on wishbookweb check out below: Also note the electronic DnD game. That was cool too. I know that there is a whole hubub about Dark Tower being pulled from the market sometime after due to MB doing some shady things. But Retro re-imagined.. And having the original people being on it would be amazing. In a perfect world have both the original person and the MB team do it together. This is what the Amico is about. For those of you with Android devices there is a version that is a pretty good representation of how the game played and sounded. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mow.droidtower&hl=en_US Plus a decent Java version as well: https://www.old-games.com/download/5186/dark-tower My Dark Tower is in a plastic container out in the garage. -

What would Gary's mom think of all this kind of language?!?!? That's allright.. Iron Man is OK with it. Those catalogs bring back tons of memories.. Looking around at not only the video games, but one of my favorite toy lines: Micronauts. -

That was glanced over all this time. I didn't realize that you are going through a different process. I'd love to hear more about what the difference is between the FE's/VIPs and the Mass produced versions of the console. Drip Drip.. New stuff comes out all the time. If you happen to cover it past this post. Sorry for the repeat question. Playing catch up. Dang job gets in the way of this!!!! Tell my boss I need more Amico time please! -

I hope the Amico is fairly easy to tear down. I can imagine that some industrious person will chrome, anodize, or use billit aluminium for any of the parts and truly customize their console. -
Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A
woobman replied to Tommy Tallarico's topic in Intellivision Amico
I just saw another video saying the Amico will fail, and it's like the Ouya... Why do I hear people bringing up the Coleco Chameleon and Ouya all the time when talking about the Amico? The first was an out and out scam. Made by people who were scammers prior. And some that scammed after. I don't see that as an issue with the Amico. The Ouya was badly made product that did something a bit new: You could play (the exact same) Android games on a TV. That was not a thing before the Ouya. The experience sucked. The controller sucked. And a lot of the games at the time were touchscreen only. I played some games on one, then moved on. Not a fun experience. The interesting side note is that someone thought there was something good there as we now have how many android boxes that can play games on TV? A few made by some reputable companies like NVIDIA. Amazon. ETC. The bottom line is that any of the ports from mobile platforms will be different. How different? We don't exactly know. Yet. More fun times ahead for us all! -

Agree. I think all of the discussions are great! Didn't want to sound dismissive. Like I said, I think we'll all give our input at various stages. Tommy will weigh it. Then act on it. Even if he decides against the way that we may want it, we still get a say in the matter. I'm very happy to be a part of this. Unlike other updates to various old consoles, we are being taken along for the ride. Bumps and all! This has been fun. -

I think that this may be a case of much ado about nothing. They are probably still all renders. I'm sure that Tommy will start showing off the final versions to us prior to the public. We'll all give input and we'll end up with a few nice choices after all is said and done. I'm hoping that eventually there will be a semi clear version so we see the electronics. Looking forward to the next reveal. What's next? A new feature? The System Box? Physical Media Box? Physical Media reveal? -

Tommy Quick question about the LEDs on the console: I believe you mentioned that they do server a purpose a few hundred pages back on this forum. For some reason I cannot remember if you ever said what that was. Can you elaborate? Or will this be a reveal later on? Thanks! -

After reading some of the press releases, I did see some interesting info buried in there: 1) I love the idea of having the first group of people be in the credits of games. Does this mean that the group Founders Edition and VIP's from the US will have their names in games as well? What about people that contribute in this forum? It would be cool to be an Easter egg of some kind. 2)It says that there are 2Gigs of Storage. Not RAM. That and Complact Flash. Not SD.. Is this a different rev? Just curious. I know some people will take you to task for a "aha" moment for them. 3)Can't wait to play the 6th game TBD!!! Is that another version of MDK? 4)Getting more and more anxious to see the Box and physical media for the games are! -

When will the Amico be able to do this? And when are you going to announce? Is this the Secret BenHeck project? You could call it Project Blue Sky... Or BS for short. PBS I think is taken by something else. ---OK Sarcasm mode off now. Seriously Keep up the great conversations!!! Counting down until Amico Day!!! -
