If that’s the case then it’s essentially digital software . What if it’s 20 years later and your console breaks and IE is gone ? Isn’t that the one of the key points of physical media ? To play it on any Amico console anytime ? Maybe Tommy can answer this question.

That's actually a really good point.

It is a very good question. It's actually crossed my mind a few times over the 2 years(?) that I've been visiting this particular forum. My guess is that Tommy will have our backs with something. What that something would look like, I don't know.

    Some fun Possibilities:

1)They put the entire catalog on Archive.org for us to download what/when we want.  Basically turning it all into freeware.

2)They warn you to make backup copies. (And disable any anti-piracy it in the Firmware prior to shutting down). Then you can save them wherever you want.

3)Tommy has something up his sleeve.

4)We will all be playing the Amico 3 series X and will be all backwards compatible that will have many TB of storage that can be backed up and restored to our mobile phones/controllers.

5)As they are all flash games, according to some, they will be available on a flash games repository on the web so we'll be able to play them in a browser.

6)@Games will have an Amico Flashback that will have 100's of games on it and be compatible with the standard Amico Controller.

    Take your pick :)

  2. Other observations were already brought up.. But I'm intrigued by the games Cats with Swords. I want to see that in action. A re imagined Centipede. Dolphin Quest. Flying Circus will hopefully be preceded by Monty Python's... :)

Of course Seeing Earthworm Jim (with no 4) was intriguing.  I know I'm reading too much into it.

Can't wait to see Darts either.

More fun on the way, no doubt.

NEW INTELLIVISION AMICO VIDEO TO START 2021!!

So many people went through so many challenges in 2020, so we wanted to start celebrating new and positive beginnings and a new year by showing off some brand new footage and audio from one of our six pack in games.

    Astrosmash!!

Here's to a new year and new beginnings!

I look forward to sharing many more videos and information with everyone over the next few months.

Fun Video Tommy. Keep them coming!

After watching a few times, I showed the family. My son came away amazed at the way you can change the orientation of the controller. He asked me "Why hasn't anyone else thought of this?" My wife and daughter said Astrosmash looked like a lot of fun.  My Daughter likes specific games. But nowhere near hardcore. The last thing the wife got into was a few of the Wii games.

I did have a question: Is it me, or does the Graphite Black look a bit thinner than the Glacier White model?  It may be an optical illusion, but I asked the family and they said the same thing.  A newer revision perhaps?

I know we'll be buying at least 2 extra controllers when release happens. Hopefully we can mix and match colors. :)

  4. Happy New Year everyone! Most of us made it through 2020. Now we can look forward to all the fun that lays ahead this year! I know we are looking forward to the Amico and all the cool things that go with it. New Colors. New games. Physical Media. Actually getting a hold of it and playing!!!

Besides the Amico and related things. What gaming goodness are you looking forward too?

I'll start it off by adding the possibility of the Switch Pro. My guess, Portable 1080p. Docked 4K. I saw a possible rendering and it included 4 game slots. Plus an external unit for 4 more in dock mode. I know Piracy would be rampant, but it would still be great to be able to install the physical media so you don't have to carry around carts.  Tommy says the Amico will handle this in a cool way, so that makes me happy!

I have more, but I'll start the list with that. Any one else care to add?

Just wanted to let folks know that they just announced that the state of California has extended the lockdown and "stay-at-home" order INDEFINITELY for now.

    Yikes!

    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-usa-california/california-coronavirus-lockdowns-extended-as-hospitals-teeter-on-brink-of-crisis-idUSKBN29406A

We were bracing for the potential of this happening over the past month.  This is definitely going to affect our ability to hit our April launch and we will know a lot more info over the next few weeks.

We are so close and in the final stages of the hardware being 100% completed (I'd say we're at about 98% at this point).

Just wanted to let folks here know the latest up-to-the-minute info.

Here's some good news:  Going to be posting a cool video on January 1st to start the new year right!!

As much as I want this to come out in April. We can wait. I've had a coworker pass from it. A few have had it. Some with not many symptoms. Some are still feeling the after effects moths after.  I don't wish this on anyone.

As far as the video goes... Woo hoo!!! Maybe we'll get to see a new round of teaser videos for stuff that we haven't seen yet. And EWJ4!  Wouldn't that be something?tm

On a side note.. I just watched Tron Legacy (in 3D) on the anniversary of its release.  Still a fun movie! I never noticed the line before. :). Well done!!!

I was thinking about the physical media and the possibilities. I realized that if Intellivision is structured to "make it's money" off of the digital distribution. I wonder what can be done with making nice packaging and whatever form the actual physical game takes on. What can be manufactured for $5.00-$8.00? Adding some  for actual shipping costs. The possibilities are quite numerous. I also wonder what "extras" he was discussing.. More fun to think about.

Leading me to wonder - Will all the boxes be the same size? I'd ask for the size of packaging.. But I know better. OR will we have one the size of a typical Diary of a Wimpy Kid book. The other to be like Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows?  OR a Chibi Transformer toy vs the new Unicron that is coming out. (If you have not seen that. Wow). HASLAB Unicron

Yeah, it's a tough balance.  The followers of the project want to see everything ASAP and don't really care or think about the negative aspects of having certain exclusive "reveal" things for bigger media outlets when the time is right for the company and the product.

I TOTALLY get it!  Of course everyone is interested and wants to see as much as possible.  I just hope that folks will understand the bigger picture... especially in these times when things are literally changing and evolving from week to week.

You'll also see certain groups of people who go out of their minds crazy because something that was said 2 years ago has now changed.  "OMG!!  TOMMY IS A LIAR AND A SCAMMER!!  HE CHANGED WHAT HE SAID!!"

You'll see the same type of elitist attitude about the games as well.  "SHOW US EVERYTHING!!  AND WHEN YOU DO, WE ARE GOING TO COMPLAIN THAT THE GAME DOESN'T LOOK FINISHED!!  STUPID FLASH GAMES!!"

No way we are going to please everyone.  So we'll just keep doing what we do.  We have reasons for everything we do as well as the timing.  We have weekly meetings about it with certain members of the team.

We'll continue to do things that are best for us and the product.  I'm pretty sure that everyone who posts here wants to see the product succeed.  Lots of time to show a lot of great stuff.

This is also one of the reasons we hired and added a new and really talented full time in house video production person to the team.  He's GREAT!  We work almost every day together with our marketing team to plan out the next 3 or 4 things we're going to do and show.

Please remember... we are all focused on finishing the product right now.  Making videos that thousands of people will see (because we're not spending marketing or advertising money) isn't the highest thing on our priority list right now.

All that being said... one of the things our new video production person will be focused on is doing some cool developer diary type stuff as that doesn't really take away from our core in-house team and what we're doing.

You'll start to see those starting in January.

In regards to the UI.  We have a big video conference we're doing for a HUGE company next Tuesday (where we are showing them the UI and showing them a bunch of games showing how unique the controller is, etc.) so we might do a little recording to tease some stuff before Christmas.   :)

Hang in there folks!  We are playing the long game here and victory and success is our goal.

The Six year old me, wants to see everything now Tommy !!! But the 50+ year old me gets it. January is only a few weeks away. Christmas is around the corner and any new tidbits would be great!  I'd rather you be a little under the radar for a bit, and have a fantastic launch. Than if you update us every day and us have the out of box experience that one youtuber had with another console earlier this week.

Can't wait until more is revealed. When you can!!!

  8. Hi all,

I thought the Atari VCS launch would be better. After watching Twinblasters initial review. I won't lie. I am a bit disappointed. But it looks like with a little love, it may turn into a nice little console. I think I'm more interested in the classic controller. Glad to know that the VCS volume 2 hiccup issue has been taken care of.

His double charge got me thinking about the actual transactions and the Amico experience.   I can see myself purchasing most of the physical media, but for the digital ones, will I be able to purchase  Amico "gift cards" down at my local Gamestop/Walmart?  If so, do you plan on making them stand out? Not just a rectangle.  A cool shape or feature. RFID may be cost prohibitive for them. If you haven't seen the new Apple gift cards, they are not your average gift card.  Instead of your standard plastic card, you get the unique ID (I think on a piece of paper inside the new packaging) and an Apple sticker. Multiple designs have been made, so multiple Apple stickers.  For the collector.. Another hunt! Especially if you different designs for different stores.

If not right away, by Christmas. So my family knows what to get me :)

Anyone else think Amico Gift Cards would be cool?

I keep seeing things like this, or along the lines that gaming is a very expensive hobby. Maybe I'm not doing it right, because for me games have never been cheaper. I think my advantage is that I don't need to buy big, expensive games when they first release. I'm ok with waiting a few years when they're put on sale for a ridiculously cheap price, or even given away for free as a perk in PS+. I think my mentality for this goes back to when I was a broke college student and could only afford games that cost $20 or less. Looking at the rack of games, I didn't know what was new or a few years old. I looked to see if my PC could play it, and discovered a lot of gems on my thrifty budget.

I can't tell you the last time I paid $60 or more for a game. And I don't feel like I've been left out of anything. I don't play online, so season passes or things like that don't mean a lot to me. My daughter plays Fortnite occasionally with her friends, and I think to date she has spent a total of $10 over the last few years. In a lot of ways, gaming has never been cheaper.

So if I'm so frugal with my gaming dollars, why did I pre-order two Amicos? Tommy always talks about "value and trust." I see a lot of value in Amico. Intellivision has been very open about what you're getting for your money, and I personally think that what you get for the money is a great deal. I also know the team behind it, and I trust them. I'm not sure they'll get everything right at launch, but as open as the team has been about its development, I have high confidence that it will be great at launch... and even better in the future.

Gaming has always been expensive.  It's just where the $$$$ is spent.  A lot of mobile games rely on the microtransactions to make their money. We've accepted when a game comes out and you have to wait to play it as it has to download a Blu-Rays worth of content. And until recently loot boxes. I've collected games a good portion of my life and have been fortunate enough to come along some great deals due to waiting.

I'm right there with you. As I've gotten older, I notice that it doesn't matter if I get most of the latest games on Day one. Especially when they are $60+. On the other hand, $10 (Digital) and $20 physical, makes me real happy. Especially when each physical game will be a bit different. I'm sure even the packaging will be awesome.   The Cost per hour for that $200.00 on Fortnite is worth it. as he has spent days on it.  However, I know that I will beat it with just the single player experience on the Amico. Right now, the video game giants are not marketing to us. They are marketing to the kids who need to have everything now. (Hmmm another thing Willy Wonka got right). Another Plug for a Chocolate Factory adventure game.

I'm right there with you and being cheap - I waited to buy Bioshock remastered until Black Friday and  $15.00 at Walmart. However, I am a proud Pre-ordered almost owner of an Amico. VIP Order 18xx.  Day one purchases will be  returning to my vocabulary and wallet.

An issue that modern parents need to deal with and that Amico takes care of.

6-year-old racked up over $16K on his mom's credit card

I totally get it that it's the parents responsibility... but that's my issue with a lot of this type of stuff is that a good number of parents don't even know their kids can do these kinds of things... and some of them unfortunately seem to find out the hard way.

Wondering if anyone here has had family or friends with similar types of stories?

When we were doing a lot of in-person focus testing (back when we could!) we would hear these types of stories all the time.  A lot of the parents that would share their stories with us said they knew that mobile was like that, but didn't realize they could do things like that on the Switch.  So that's where most of them were getting burned.

The costs of gaming keeps going up and up. Between Battle passes. Season Passes. Having to pay for the online service JUST to play online games. Lets not forget new "episodes" of a game. The extra $10.00 for some of the games on the newest generation. It's nostalgic to buy a game. Then get the entire game. (I assume if any bug fixes need to happen it will be seamless). The only 40GIG day one patch would be DAY ONE when you replace your SD card with something larger.

Speaking of creeping costs, my son has spent over $200.00 on Fortnite over the last year plus. Luckily, apart from a few hiccups, it's all been on his money.

Imagine an "app" where you could load in music from a USB and Amico would do an on screen video show as well as light show on the console & controllers (and you could use the controllers to interact or change the visuals.

    Wouldn't That Be Something?

Another reason to be excited for Amico!!!! While I missed the FE due to having a busy week... And it they were sold out in how long? Hours.  I am order number 18xx of the VIP. My xbox360 just died it's last death. I'll get another one just for the visualizer! Loved the one on the jag and Nuon.  I never got a Jag CD, but a friend had one. It was trippy to play. The Xbox360 perfected it.   I would love to see the same team , Llamasoft, work on the Amico one.  I can imagine what he/they could do with the lights on the console and the visuals.

It's exciting to hear about "apps" on the Amico. That makes me wonder if it could ever be used as a media center. Would Plex ever be considered for the Amico?

Our first pass of Founders pins are in!  Which one does everyone like the most?

I'm kinda digging the darker wood on the left.  Really makes the Running Man pop!

    Thoughts?

Let me know your favorite and why.

They are both Nice..  But I would have to go with the one on the left.. It seems to more closely match the original.  How about posting a PIC with one of the FE Amicos?

Had to get the correct intellivoice speech in here.  Intellivoice actually wasn't packaged with a cartridge.  The Amico B17 remake should be a good one.

What would be a Kick is if the Amico physical version would be a mini Intellivoice with an even mini-er B-17 Cart.  Like what New Wave toys did with the Dragon's Lair arcade. If you haven't seen it.. See below..  The laserdisc even has a sleeve!

New Wave Toys on Twitter: "Dragon's Lair x RepliCade Presale is live on Kickstarter! Mini 12 inch PlayScale replica that Looks, Plays and Controls like the original 1983 Dragon's Lair arcade machine!

    PS -

I for one don't care how large the file would be, I'd still like to see Dragon's Lair on the Amico. Adding more storage to the Amico does not break the bank.

  14. It occurred to me just now: What if I put a non-Amico item with an RFID chip near my Amico? I'm hoping for something a little more than. "Sorry that is not an Amico related item".  Randomize the errors with some humor.

If you put the Mario Amibo on the console or controller, a mostly red screen pops up and says: "Hey, that looks like something you may want to call a plumber about". "Where is your brother?" "We saw a Princess go through thataway!" Go obscure and say "Jellyfish made a good song about you and your friends".  Link here. If the Amico is connected to the internet, it could send the ID up and you could push the data down in no time at all.  Little things like that no other company would think of.

I know that is feature creep.. But it would be fun.  :)

  15. I've been a bad shill.. I let life get in the way and had to catch up again on postings..   Maybe this was covered before, but just in case. With whatever the physical media takes shape in. (Hot Wheels, Tron Disc, Recognizer, X-wing, Funco Pop of Tommy, Opus from Bloom County). Will we have to keep re-authenticating the game by having to tap tie RFID to your console/controller every so often? OR once installed, we won't have to OEBTM - Pete each time we play.

Geez, it's almost like people have nothing else to do because they "feel" it's only a 2D/2.5D platform. If they are proven wrong, life might not be the same for them. We'll blame the picture of Mario Kart on the thumbnail that got their dander up.
