look for Arcade video games mags, paper or scans
nintendo replied to lucifershalo's topic in Gaming Publications and Websites
I found a webpage with information, but no scans, about such magazines at http://home.hiwaay.net/~lkseitz/cvg/cvglit.shtml Here is the information taken from the website about the issue of "How to Win at Video Games" that I have: Consumer Guide; _How to Win at Video Games_; 0-517-38119-2; Publications International, Ltd.; 1982; $3.95; 64p; TPB. Arcade (main): ASTEROIDS, CENTIPEDE, DEFENDER, DONKEY KONG, FROGGER, MISSILE COMMAND, MS. PAC-MAN, OMEGA RACE, PAC-MAN, PHOENIX, QIX, TEMPEST, TURBO. Arcade (secondary): ELIMINATOR, HYPERBALL, MAKE TRAX, MOUSETRAP, STARGATE, VANGUARD. Home: 2600, 5200, INTV, OD^2. Notes: Title is in the same style as the subtitle on early issues of _JoyStik_. The two have the same publisher. Color photos of all cabinets. Color illustrations of each main game. Each main game also has a section on the home version, if it existed at the time. Those that didn't have a home version talk about some other "similar" home game. Each main game, except Frogger, Missile Command, Ms. Pac-Man, and Turbo, ends with a short section summarizing bonus, popularity, location, enemies, approachability, sex appeal, age appeal, control comfort, skill vs. strategy, clocked or not, special effects, value for money, pros, and cons. Has one page for "up-and-coming" (secondary) games and another page for home systems, including the then unreleased Atari Video System X, which became known as the Atari 5200. -

Lesser Known N64 games worth getting?
nintendo replied to marcfrick2112's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Space Station Silicon Valley is a good and somewhat addicting game that you won't find on any other console. And try typing "best N64" on youtube to see what you find. -
I prefer the NES Ninja Gaiden game-play over the arcade any day. And I prefer the Mega Drive version of Snow Bros. over the arcade version as well. Oh, and to I can't forget to mention that Track and Field on the Atari 2600 beats the NES version. Somehow it seems more fun!

I had a loose copy of the Action 52 for the Megadrive/Genesis and got a little over $100 for it on ebay in the early days. It may be rare but those are just some of the crappiest games you'll never play!
-
My faves are: Snatcher Lunar 1 and 2 Popful Mail Keio Flying Squadron Ecco the Dolphin 1 and 2 Robo Aleste Lords of Thunder Mickey Mania I also play the Mega CD versions of Final Fight, Ninja Warriors and Night Striker on my SEGA CDX. I do have the original Mega CD games, but I had to convert the region code and burn the game to a CD-R to play it. I like Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin too, but the music sucks. "Swing time! Bring home the bacon! ". What kind of crap lyrics are those for a Spider-Man game!? I'm going to make my own soundtrack for this game.

Other uses for old game cartridges
nintendo replied to nintendo's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Don't run! That's MY gold at over $800 an ounce!!! -
What other uses can you think of for all these old Atari, NES, Genesis, N64, etc. cartridges? Are there any other uses anyone here has thought of? I've heard stories of how some people are scraping off the gold from the contacts of old computer parts. Would that be something worthwhile to do with cartridges? How much is an ounce of gold worth these days? I haven't bothered to google it yet. How many cartridges would it take to get an ounce of gold? he, he! Also, could there be any capacitors or other electronic parts in game cartridges that could be put to use in other electronic projects? And I was wondering, do all the sports titles for Genesis and SNES use a battery? If so, could the battery holder in the cart be put to good use for something else? I'm sure it could, for the right project. Also, at thrift stores I know we all see old VCRs, radios, and other electronics. What would be some sought after internal parts that would make a worthwhile purchase? Copper is worth money right? What devices would have a lot of copper in them? Don't old speakers and radios have copper coils? Also, knobs, switches, digital displays, and LEDs could be useful for a project. I just get tired of seeing all the old tech at thrift stores sitting around and these old Atari and Genesis carts sitting at the local used record store. I know there's got to be a good way to put them to use and make me some money. I hope I get some people thinking. Share your ideas!

If you liked that game, you should also try Bandit Kings of Ancient China for the NES. I think it's still commands a hefty price on ebay.

The Official "Thrift finds" Thread
nintendo replied to Happy_Dude's topic in Classic Console Discussion
At Goodwill today, I found a new sealed copy of Super Mario Bros. 3 for NES for $4. THAT was a surprise to me. The box wasn't even damaged! And next to it was a very good condition loose cart of Final Fantasy 3 for the SNES for $2. So of course I snatched them up! I was surprised I found these at an actual "thrift store" price, seeing how most thrift stores seem to be getting in on the "ebay" pricing of vintage games these days. And what's funny is they also had a stack of common NES titles in a glass case for $3 each. I see someone is selling a sealed copy of SMB3 on ebay. The price is at $66.05 for now. Maybe I'll put mine on ebay soon. -
Have you thought of getting a GBA flashcart? Then you can just put the rom of any GBA game on it an play! And try your local pawn shops too for GBA games.

awesome goodwill finds today

I bought a Game & Watch multi-screen game "Oil Panic" for 2.99 at a local thrift store a few days ago. It has the battery cover and serial number sticker too. Overall in very good condition. It's the original game not those "mini-classics" versions, so I was surprised it was even there and for that price! -
Yeah, some of my brothers have that "attitude" with me about the old systems I still have. It kinda annoys me, but then I realize how much more boring or "normal" their lives are compared to mine. I wonder if it's the variety I have in my life which they lack that makes them so "normal". Like they can't think outside the box. It's the little things like vintage games (or probably just having a hobby) that help keep an attitude fresh. It seems you have a more stale mindset when you constantly have to have something new. You never get to know and appreciate what you have when you cast it aside as soon as something new or "better" comes along. Also, videogames are like books or movies. Entertainment for the mind as you just sit there. How many platforms has the movie "Gone with the Wind" been on? It will probably be re-released on every new video platform until the end of time. But with most old videogames you won't see them again on another system so you've got to keep the old systems just to play them. Even most good books get another printing through the years. But I know there are many good books I haven't read and I don't know which good books I'm missing out on so it doesn't really matter to me. And I guess that is the best way to describe how my brothers feel about the "old" games. They can't have an interest for something that doesn't matter to them. It seems we are what you call "true" gamers. We have no boundaries or limits and we have variety. Which means we have no problem owning different systems just to play a good game and we can move forward or back in time with our game libraries. If you just have the latest system and nothing else, then you're always waiting for the next best thing for it while your system sits there and your bored with the games you just beat. Now that sucks! So you better have some other good interests to keep you occupied after business hours. By the way, I have a lot of games and systems but rarely get the time to play them. Still at least I have 'em when I'm ready. Probably get more play out of them when I'm a retired old man and have all the time in the world.

German firm wants my footage for video game movie

You decide how much it's worth. So definitely request some type of compensation for your time and effort. Maybe besides money you might want some games or other stuff to add to your collection. Hit 'em up! -
Awesome video game system I got off Ebay
nintendo replied to Ite's topic in Classic Console Discussion
But can you play any lightgun games on that thing? I know that's a small handful of games, but it's still a compatibility issue. One day I'll combine my SNES mini and Famicom A/V circuitboards into a single casing and have the best of both systems in a single unit. But when will that day come, you ask? I dunno.... -
I don't like the game. I tried to like it but it's not exciting enough for me. I prefer Gun-Nac if I'm going to play a vertical shooter on the NES.
-
I have it. The last time I played it, I thought it was a good port. But somehow the Atari 2600 still seems to have better game play and sound. I was surprised!
-
Nice work. I like the rounded edges.

Behold! My awesome deal on a Sega CDX!
nintendo replied to Rev. Rob's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Damn, an awesome deal! And it works! Take care of that system! -
Make sure the contacts on your game cartridge and the Game Genie are clean. That's usually the most common fix. Or maybe your putting in the wrong codes?
-
Yawn... That system sucks and it is the second Genesis/NES clone system I've ever seen. It's probably even more cheaply-built than the one I have. You can see the one I have here: http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?s...p;mode=threaded
