  1. Great finds! The best is when you can spend your money restoring and not trying to buy the cabs! Good for you.

Now, the bad news...from what I see, that SI has some serious moisture issues. Chances are you need to look at all of the seated chips on the boards. Those will most likely be rusty too. Take a look there and decide how far down this rabbit hole you are ready to go.

SI boards (actually all the Midway "toaster" style boards) are VERY sensitive to -5V on video RAM. If you have 5V and ground the board will put garbled junk on the screen. SHUT IT DOWN until you are SURE, and I mean SURE you have -5 AT the board. Not just -5 at the power supply. If this one is over your head, buy beverages for a friend that knows how to read wiring schematics. Any good computer hacker or gear head mechanic should be able to do it. Wiring schematics are online.

My first assumption: That power supply board is dead. From the moisture damage in that cab, I would not be suprised if that isolation transformer is banged up too. Worst case scenario, you'd wire a new power supply in there and bypass the isolation transformer. All the motorola monitors had onboard isolation transformers anyway.

Not trying to discourage you, just being honest. Devil is in the details on these oldies.

  2. I certainly don't want to drag fuel into a fire, I cannot believe I missed this whole thread. Shows how I have drifted from my beloved Atari this past month....

I do have a question for Phantom, though. Reasonably, you do know you won't get that money for it. You have said several times you would like to retain its actual value as a one-off. I do wonder though how much you had planned on making from repros?

Assuming you factor supplies to make a new run of these: Per game, ballpark estimates:

    EPROM $4

Donor cart $1 (all pac mans of course)

AA PCB with inverter $5-ish (don't exactly recall what they are each)

Labels (professional printed on equipment other than a desktop bubblejet) $1-2 each

Boxes $7-10 each, depending on paper weight and style, then die-cutting if you could find a die

Total then around 20-22 per game, your cost. Nows the time to factor in cost to produce, say 30 minutes of yours (or someone you underwrite to do it), I don't know, maybe 10 bucks each (its a lot of detail work for 10 bucks too) ? I don't have a clue whats fair, I am just guessing. You're now around 30 per game, in costs. Say you sell it for 45, shipped (save a buck or two and ship cheaply) you might make 10 a copy. I would say the classic game community would support a run of maybe 200 to start, as I have seen runs of 250 sit with extra inventory after a game show. Say you sold them all, that would be a profit of about 2-2500 your end, maybe 3K if you are snazzy with business stuff (I SOOOO am not). Then if you sold the game cart, you'd get maybe 2500 for it, again speculating based on what I know of very rare (one-off's) maybe 3K again.

Total, 6K. Not too shabby on a 50 cent find. It certainly sounds from your stories on other posts this would be money well used, to do with as you like, and folks would be able to enjoy the game too. Its all your choices man. Getting upset with folks is part of the "game" (no pun intended). They don't always have the social skills to deliver their message, and you have to know email/internet is not the best way to express themselves for many people. If you did alter the game, folks may or may not care, but you are not going to make more or less; its supply and demand.

Just my .24 and 1/2. Not to upset you, just a prospective of what its really worth. It is not intended to flame, upset or otherwise make bad. Just an observation.

  3. I'll try the cap trick, thanks. Do you have a picture of the slugs you used? I'm thinking the kind that are inside the old RF converter switches and wrap each wire through one?

Thanks again for the input. I think I am on to something cool here :)

  4. All,

I am working on a little (portable to be exact) project right now and could use some advice. I have a Flashback 2 running on the same power supply as the monitor it is being played on. I've got it running using the onboard voltage regulator and the monitor is using its own, but they are both receiving the same power input (6.9 VDC). Basically, when the game makes an audio sound, the screen gets a little jumpy. Not awful, but you can see there is some noise in the system.

Do you think I could just wire an electrolytic capacitor, say 100mfd, across the power input lines to filter some of that noise? The monitor I have it hooked to had a fairly extensive filter inline (I have since removed it because it was drawing too much current) so I assume the monitor needed it.

Thanks for any input you might have.

  5. BTW, I think a 555 timer and a few capacitors would do the same thing as the timer circuit. Trip the switch, it energizes a relay to do the grounding. Use a potentiameter and a capacitor to adjust how long you play. Bigger means longer, right? Something like that...its been years...probably less than 5 bucks in parts and everything at Radio Shack (even the crappy ones of today).

  6. If anyone ever uses a 19 inch arcade vector monitor (ala Asteroids, Lunar Lander, etc) I have an isolation transformer board from an Atari vector sitting around. LMK if you need it :) I could be persuaded very easily to part with it. I had the idea of rigging a Vectrex with a Sean Kelly Multicart into a coctail Asteroids Deluxe I had at one time. It would have been a neat way to use the Vectrex in my gameroom and hold beverages at the same time.

  7. There are plenty of repro shells out there, they are just really expensive per piece. Unless somebody wants to pay extra for a new one, the chances of a small group making new releases affecting overall numbers is pretty slim. We are talking 26 million copies of Combat, who knows how many millions of Pac Man's, ET's (you can get the labels off, they just suck to do), etc.

BTW, when I made some new releases, I just gave the pcb's away. Always had a bowlful on my tables at PhillyClassic. Hard to beleive those days are now past tense :) I miss Philly Classic.

  8. My Star Wars cockpit was in a guy's driveway. It was free. I let it warm up, reseated the chips and installed an ESB kit in it (thanks to Clay!). Worked since the day I got it home...

I got a Missile Command on the side of the road, literally. Needed a board repair (of course on that machine)

Got a Ms. Pac from a goodwill (cocktail)

Got a Pac cocktail from the same place I got Missile Command, I knocked on his door and gave a 100 bucks for it. Bad regulator cost me about 5 bucks to fix...

You never know what folks will chuck...

  9. All,

Just talked to a game pal of mine. He is selling both of his remaining pieces. I asked if he wanted me to list them here, he knows a few of you (Osmeroid comes to mind....) :)

    Anyway:

Upright Asteroids. VERY low plays. Absolutely the CLEANEST machine I have EVER seen. Its amazing how straight the game is. Graphics, control panel, play value, etc. are all but brand new. Clearly not a game that was on location for very long. The Asteroids machines I have seen are all in decent shape (the trend was short lived...Pac was out the following year) but this one is the best. If I did not have a giant tax bill, I'd buy it myself. He is asking $600 picked up or dropped off at a depot (you would pay pallate fees and shipping).

Warlords cocktail. New overlays, I will install them before he sells it. Some flaking on the glass and a few scratches but overall a good 8 out of 10 piece. Plays flawlessly. Needs some touchup on the legs but otherwise makes a great coffee table. He has $1000 in it, would like to get $900 out of it (or something darn close). These are getting harder to find, this is the one he brought to Philly Classic in 03 (or 04, can't recall).

Anyway, pm me if you want his email addy. I don't feel comfortable posting in the forum.

Thanks. I see a lot of games for sale. These are two worth mentioning....if I had the money they'd be in my basement.

  10. I suppose you could just put them on the inside :) Seeing as how nobody really knows which direction he is going...:) The set on my car is on the outside, as the window defogger lines would make bubbles on the inside.

These are pretty heavy duty vynil. I don't think they will tolerate a bunch of scraping though...

  11. How's about $35 shipped? Heck, its going back in the crawlspace if its lower than that. Its been down there forever, it'll make it another decade LOL :)

    Cassidy

They just did a special on this system in the Magazine "Video Game Collector" you may want to try Ebaying it now since that could have increased the collectibility of it?

Thanks for the tip! I have a maybe- right now on the AA forums, we'll see if that does not work out I will ebay-ville it :)

    Cheers,

    C

  12. These are chips I pulled from arcade PCB's back a few years ago. Assume each will need to be erased but should be just fine to work in whatever app you need...

    27C010 Quantity 6 $10 shipped in US

    27C040 Quantity 4 $8 shipped in US

    27C1001 Quantity 3 $8 shipped in US

2 BRAND NEW Mitusbishi M5M27C402K-15's $15 shipped in US

If interested, PM me, thanks! By the way, these are all too big for Atari 2600 carts...just thought I'd add that.

    Cassidy

  13. Very cool, at least I think they are :)

They are about 5 1/2 inches tall each, both in 3 mil thick 8-year fade resistant automotive adhesive vynil with translite tape (to let you apply them to your car easily). They could go on a gameroom wall too, I just think they look great on the back window of the car. I have 2 sets for sale, $12 shipped each (one ghost and one pac man). This is the Pac from the marquee on the arcade, not the traditional circular one.

If there is an interest, I could get another batch of these made up. They could be made larger or smaller if someone was interested in preordering.

    Cheers,

    Cassidy

  14. Well,

Its not perfect but its all there. Edges show wear but the front and back are pretty good. Spine shows well on display too. I have played it, it works and is a good game. If you have a want for this game but don't want to pay ebay money for it, here's a shot.

I have a GIANT tax bill due this year, so off go some of my fav's. Sorry to see them go, this is about the money I paid for it.

Let me know if you are interested. Thanks!

  15. Hi all,

Have a handful of NES games for sale. Each lot is $15 plus $2 for shipping in the US. I accept paypal or money orders, whatever works best for you. Please PM me or post here what you are interested in, so I can keep tabs on things. Group 6 is only 4 games (all others are 5) so its $14 shipped (others are $17 shipped). No swapping titles around. If you want one, buy the lot and resell the others. Assume decent shape to very good labels unless noted. Please email if you have a particular one you need details on. Untested but assume working...aren't all NES games?

    Lot 1:

    NARC

    Mission Impossible

    Spy Hunter

    Metroid (later yellow release label)

    Ice Hockey

    Lot 2:

    Metal Gear

    Kid Icarus

    Excitebike

    Ski or Die

    Star Tropics

    Lot 3:

Moon Ranger (weird blue game, in worn condition; this is a $10 R3 according to DPG)_

    Blades of Steel

    Shatterhand

Super Mario/Duck Hunt (hey, take the good with the bad, right? :) )

    Baseball

    Lot 4:

    Iron Tank

    Ikari Warrios II Victory Road

    Wizards and Warriors

    Gotcha

    Lot 5:

    Adventures of Bayou Billy

    Kings of the Beach

    Qbert

    Slalom

    Sesame Street 123

Lot 6: (the cheaper one with 4 games)

    RC Pro AM

    Snake Rattle and Roll

    Bubble Bobble

    Dr. Mario

Assume all games to be loose. If I have the manual, I will include it, I know I have a few. Some have sleeves, some are the generic Funcoland type. Again, if I have them you get them.

    Thanks,

    Cassidy

  16. http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=9621

Anyone else remember this one? I played it in college and then heard they were all destroyed. Figures, somebody got hurt and sued the company that made the game. Getting beer muscles and mistakenly hitting the metal bars would hurt, but class-acdtion lawsuit worthy? Man. Thats some hit.

Anybody ever see one of these in recent history? I am sure there are no operators stupid enough to set the piece but I am sure that somebody missed the recall and there is one left.
