  1. Well,

If you are counting when Nolan worked at Ampex and was getting ready to design video games as an industry...

If you mean for 2600, I suppose this ratty thing...:)

    :)

You know, none of it means as much to me as the handful of games I had as a kid...the big dollar stuff is insured and thats fine. Its the personal memories of my woody on Christmas morning playing Freeway that are the real rares to me.

  2. Way to go! Now you'll be rewiring the basement so your lights dont flicker as the flippers go out!....

Seriously though, enjoy. Set it up on freeplay (download the manual so you have it for the future too) and rock on. That playfield has the mylar overlays, I think and it really looks good in the pics. Good times ahead...

  3. Fun stories about games in the snow...

Brought my first Galaga home from a retail place in my Bronco in the snow. I had to really move the seats up, and it was IN my lap doing it. Fun times.

Also had a Roy Clark, the Entertainer pinball table (thats a bizarre piece if I've ever seen one!) I moved in the snow. It was a cocktail table pin. Easy to get in, and I saw a home stereo system on the side of the road that day coming home. The game is long gone, the stereo is still working great in my garage!

Moved a craigslist found Gauntlet machine in about 8 inches of powder. I loaded it in sub freezing temps, unloaded it covered with snow and dried it off before it melted. Never got a drop of water on it, and I hauled it open bed of my truck in pouring snow!

Good luck, let us know how it comes out!

  4. I love that table. When you get the multiball and bring her to life, man o man, what a game.

Great choice. I would look for the obvious glaring problems. If you own one though, you will have to learn to change bulbs and clean contacts. They are not designed for the manintenance-free crowd :) Go buy a Pac Man if thats what you want :)

1300 for a delivered, clean working game? That should be more than fair. If its pretty, works and you love it (and can afford it), go for it.

    Good luck!

  5. I have never actually posted about this (if I did I forgot)....

Growing up I had a hard plastic brown lunchbox-looking Atari game cartridge case. It opened from the opposite side of the hard plastic handle (molded in). I guess a picture is worth a thousand words...I'll try to post one soon. There are no marks on it (that I saw) to tell me anything about it.

I know it hangs perfectly on the handlebars of a Huffy bike. It also protects better than my back pocket. Just curious what it was, brand wise and name wise. I know its not valuable, just curious if anyone else ever had one.

  6. Thats Peter Hirshberg's place. I sold him my Battlezone about 8 years ago. He only had a Space War, Haunted House pinball (minty fresh) and a handful of others at the time. He has REALLY taken it up a notch.

He worked for Lloyd at the warehouse for a while. Let him snap up some sweet machines at cost I am sure :)

Great collection, great guy. Could not have happened to a nicer fella.

  7. :) I meant its the classic Atari MDF construction. It acts like a sponge when it gets wet. Mopwater at a pizza place, damp warehouses, leaking roofs, etc. make for a VERY soft wood cabinet.

Midways and Nintendo's were plywood. They stood up better but are more likely to chip or snap. Its a tradeoff. None of this stuff was designed to last this long. The games came with a 90 day warranty when they were new....I cannot imagine making the FULL value back on a machine (new cost) in 3 months NET. That would be mind-bending. As an operator, you're lucky to clear your investment in 10 months to a year on a location set.

  8. I have Pocket Programmer II from xtronics. Works great for me. I used to burn arcade chips and 2600 carts with it pretty regularly. It was the serial port version but I think they are all USB now. Good eraser and you are set. I think it paid for itself on the arcade board repairs (Pac Man slowdown/speed up chips are $15 bucks a piece programmed and they take 10 seconds to make!).

Good luck. You certainly have choices and a network here to support you!

  9. Good luck. That is a tough one. Fantastic game, btw. The most accurate translation I have ever played was the VIC 20 "The Sky is Falling" game. Plays very similar except its color. For those of you that don't know it is the inspiration behind the 2600 and 5200 Kaboom! games.

I would contact Jerry Russo at Apollo Amusements or maybe Todd at TNT Amusements and see what they can get a lead on. Coinopwarehouse.com might be worth an email too. Low production, heavy machine, very large cabinet, prone to water damage. You could also try RGVAC or RGVAM and post "WTB: Avalanche" and see what happens. You might fair better to trade for it if you could find a few lesser rarities.

The strange thing is, in all the years I played with B&W machines, you know I never saw one for sale? Most likely because I got there after Seth and Videotopia :)

Good luck, but be prepared to pay for it.

  10. All,

I have a nice looking and working Arcadia 2001 system with the little screw-in joysticks. Its a great little system and by far the best way to play Cat-Trax before the 2600 homebrew version :)

I have tested a handful of the games and tested the contollers. Screen reception is PERFECT with the rf adapter (included) and the power supply is tested and working (not the same as an Atari one). 6 short games and 3 long. When I got the system in 2000, all the games were working. Plugged in 3 of them today and all 3 worked. If it is critical to you that one be tested, PM me and I will, just did not have a great deal of time today but wanted to get some pics out for sale.

I am asking $65 SHIPPED in the US. International shipping available, but please PM me first so we can work out the costs.....it might be more than the whole thing costs! Worth checking into, thats all.

PM me if you have any other questions.

  11. Hi all,

Never really think I will play this much and could use the money more right now.

I have a very nice and complete RCA system here. It comes with 4 boxed games and I was able to test 2 of them today (pics included).

The system seemed to have static on the screen, I tinkered with the connections and it did not change much. I tried adjusting the potentiameters inside slightly and it did get better, but it is fully playable as it is. I would imagine if you wanted a system it is for collection completeness anyway, not a great "playing" system anyway.

System is in good shape, some light yellowing but no chips or breaks. Chrome trim paint shows some wear but overall very good condition. Buttons all work, cables are in good condition. Cartridge slot is clean and tested; about as playable an antique as you can get. New power supply included and an RF adapter block to push on to a standard coaxial connection.

I am asking $55 SHIPPED in the US. Paypal, money order, etc. ok. If you are international, PM me and lets figure out shipping BEFORE you buy it.

I would rather it stayed between collectors than resellers as its a neat piece. I am not into the obscure stuff quite as much anymore so its time to move on.

PM me if you have any questions. I should still have a pretty good reputation around here. Let me know if you need references :)

  12. Its not the rarity of the item per se, its the condition that makes it rare. Why is a carded Boba Fett worth 1500 bucks when he is dirt common? You'll be the first person to see him open; he was meant to be consumed as a childs toy, as were these games. I'd argue there are only a handful of sealed NES first release Zeldas around. It was a popular, playable game and retailers probably sold (and consumers opened) most if not all inventory.

I think its interesting to see Brians getting involved. I don't know how it changes our 2600 community but it could definately go "Antiques Roadshow" effect on NES.

Thanks for the info on Gravitar...my Atari games are more than safe from my "axe of consideration". :) Just curious to see a recession effect on the 2600 community.

  13. I did see AFA was getting into the game. I also saw that Brians Toys is buying sealed NES games for sick money. Of course I am not a NES collector (have a hundred or so titles but its hard not to and still be a gamer) so I don't know values like I did.

Guess the market is weaker all over. I never thought Wall Ball would go so low but like you said, its not what it once was. Makes me wonder what Silver Gravitar and Video Life have dropped too as well.

  14. You do have a desireable box to an Adventurevision collector. That is not a typical condition/price though, so don't assume because there are 4 things there, your box is worth a 1/4th of that. I would not be qualified to answer the "whats it worth" question but why not list on ebay and see what the market demands for it?

  15. Neat article. Well worth the few minutes to read it.

As for that video, I saw some familiar faces when they featured it on CBS Sunday Morning last year. I think its Apollo Amusements in Florida where they did it and I know I saw John "Evil Exidy's" face in the crowd. Small arcade world.

  16. http://www.gamesforum.ca/showthread.php?t=234027 says a working set should be around 200 bucks. I checked the usual suspects and I did not see any available. You'll have to hunt. Honestly, you need to do some research and figure out what specific boards you need. I think there are a number inside that cabinet. IIRC, the roms are encrypted on top of everything else. You could get an eprom burner and eraser and make your own. Someone else could speak about encrypted roms better than I.

You also need a coin board, interconnect cables, power supply, etc. I think you must have an empty cab at this point. To buy each piece at premium piece will cost you a good bit. Maybe get on board with one of the arcade shops in the country (TNT amusements, Quarterarcade, Arcadeshop, ElDorado Games, etc) and see what they would do for you as a group buy on what you need.

  17. How are all of those boards held in right now? If they are just hanging on the wires I would certainly get some spacers and screws and get them mounted to the back door. I think the design of the metal board was for RF interference. Not as much a problem today for you as it would have been (these machines produced a good amount of "noise", I think that was to keep it down).

  18. Anyone ever been in one of these? Game worked perfectly in the garage. I helped a friend move a twin sit-down version into his basement (man did that suck) and when we fired them up one monitor was blurry. I adjusted the focus, contrast and screen controls but it did not make a difference.

In test mode, I got a perfectly deflected grid image size-wise, but you could tell the colors are not converged correctly. Basically, you see a white, red, green and blue grid, all offset left to right from each other but perfectly aligned vertically. I do not want to mess with the purity rings and not sure where to go next. Its a Nanano "standard resolution" (I swear its hi-res but KLOV says its not...has what looks like a computer monitor cable going into inputs).

Any thoughts where to go? Screen colors are there just not aligned. Never had one this new (or expensive) to work on.

    TIA,

    Cassidy

  19. Whats the game above Donkey Kong? I am not a PAL guy but know a good number of the US games. Is that a title that was released state-side?

BTW, these systems are really cool. I would wonder if these have acutal ROM's that you could remove and copy to a dumper or if they are silicon blobs on a PCB. My thought would be the later, as thats how the later models seem to all run. If you ever get interested to open it up I am sure there are plenty here that could tell you whats what in there :)

    Very neat find.
