Atari t-shirts and the infograme going ons---check this
Cassidy Nolen replied to General Atarian's topic in Atari 2600
You know, we could probably supplement your collection of games for trades of shirts. That way, we are trading you games for the value of the shirts, no money or profit exchanged. I would love one. Mine is getting worn out and the Computer Space one I have is too confusing to have to explain to people. Cassidy Anybody got an Atari Tattoo? -
UPDATE!!!!! The guy turned out cool! He sent me the money back via Paypal, and all is well. I cannot believe he did this, but I am glad that he did. Way cool, but what a pain. Now, I have this caveat to all of you: READ THE FINE PRINT! Am I someone who lives life muddling through the details? Heck no! I have too much fun figuring it out later. This time it bit me. Read those stupid 10 point type words in the ad about payment information. Its worth your while. Thanks for all the input. Cassidy

When do you realize you maybe know a little TOO MUCH about A
Cassidy Nolen replied to Room 34's topic in Atari 2600
I think I realized I know too much about it when I could recall from memory the addresses of both the home and arcade division buildings in Sunnyvale. We were in California, and Nicole says "Do you know where the Atari buildings were?". Of course, I did, and we got some photos. Now if my job would ever ease up enough to let me get a website together of this last month (Philly, meeting Nolan and Steve Russell, bunch of new games, Release of boxed Polo, TV interview in Philly) I would be greatful! And they say games are for children, huh! Cassidy -
Welcome to the group! Most of us have extra stuff. I would give you one, but I just gave my last spare away this past weekend. I am sure someone here has one they could donate to a good cause- another 2600 fan/collector is always a great thing! Cassidy

What's the most you've spent on Atari in one month?
Cassidy Nolen replied to KAZ's topic in Atari 2600
I would say that CGExpo last year was my most: Probably around 900 in games, but then the plane tickets and hotel stay got it up there quite a ways. I average 2-300 a month on games, but that also includes arcade machines. I do sell quite a bit to offset the addiction (I also got into classic Star Wars stuff recently, boy is that ever expensive!). Just an FYI, I have our collection insured for 30,000. Remember, Atari is the CHEAPEST of the systems to collect for. Ever tried buying a King of Fighters 2001 for Neo Geo cartridge? We all whine about Waterworld at a hundred, all of the KOF's and Metal Slugs START at 300! Ever tried buying a Percepts for a Magnavox Odyssey? How bout Adventurevision (no, I do not have one of those, but want one BAD!!!!). Gotta love obsessive compulsive mid to late Gen X'ers with disposable income!!!! Cassidy -
Started collecting modern systems before I knew what I was doing/aiming for (now it is to own one of every NTSC system ever releaesd in the US commercially). As I collected, I got into arcade machines, which I subsequently had to learn to fix (there is a reason they are not in the arcades anymore!). Then the idea to fix one and sell it came to me....... 4 years and 300 arcade machines later, I could afford the home collection I always wanted. I am also lucky enough to have a few arcades, too! I do hit the flea markets and e-bay items. I am pretty good about not keeping them, as long as they are not Atari. Once they hit my office, they never seem to leave. Cassidy

I think Robot Tank was one of those Must Haves. As for the way I got games, I did not read the magazines, as I was 7 during the gaming heyday of 2600. I would get to go to the toystore with my mother, and we would look through whatever they had. Something reminds me I knew Activision games were really special, but I had no idea until I was an adult anything about them (or any other games for that matter). I can remember loving Superman and Spiderman too. Somehow I got two Spidermans as a kid, but no Superman. For me, collecting 2600 is a bit of nostalgia, and a bit of finding what I missed. I honestly would not have been happy having all the games I have now back then, because I played the quality, not the quantity of games. I enjoyed ET, Pac Man (although I knew it was not a super version of it- the Coleco table top was a much better one!) and Combat. Just my thoughts. Cassidy

As a kid- Beating Jungle King, winning at Haunted House, just playing Kaboom at a friends house for hours. As an adult: First time I heard Quadrun talk, and beating Adventure! Cassidy

Philly Classic Video (might already have been mentioned)
Cassidy Nolen replied to Cassidy Nolen's topic in Atari 2600
Thanks Al, I do have a tv box that is USB, but I have to find the driver for it. I have moved a lot since I last used it, so it may take me some time. I can snail-mail you the cd once I have it burned. I appreciate it! Brings back some good memories of last month's fun! Cassidy -
You know, For my non gaming friends (there are only a few), they remember this game fondly. Of course, they also like light beer. I think this schmuck is preying on that "once in a blue moon e-bay'er" who just wants that game for their new 2600 system they got this weekend yardsaling. Gotta be. No box for 15, eeeeewww. Cassidy

Hi all, At the PC3, they filmed about 5 minutes worth of video for a FOX news show in Philly. My friend's mom lives there, and recorded it. It has quite a few of us in the video (including Computer Space, WOO HOO!). Anyway, I do not know how to host this, nor do I have the space. If I can get it into a file on the computer, does anyone have the ability to host it so people can see it? I would guess 50 megs when I am done? Curious. Neat footage about the classics, emulators, modern stuff, good shots of the room, the arcades, tables, games and people. Great to relive it. Cassidy

Just got a 2600; what adapter do I need? HELP!
Cassidy Nolen replied to AtariChick's topic in Atari 2600
Its a 9 Volt center positive tip. The size is 1/8 inch. Good luck, Cassidy -
I have tried paypal twice. For all the convenience they offer, there is not much in the way of conflict management. As for accepting the payment, I am not sure anyone has it. Maybe its just sitting there. Strange. Ad did say the games worked. The pic was small, but when I looked at it, it does show the label torn. I just emailed him about the dead one. Although everything else is maddening, the only thing I have to "really" go on is the fact the game does not work. I have tried it in several systems, and they cannot all be bad cart slots. My Jr. will play anything! Thanks for letting me vent. I am sure someone out there can vouch for this guy. He had all good feedback. Cassidy

Ok, just letting you know, this is sort of long. I was out of town, but won two games on ebay. I got back and did not read the fine print on the auciton that said money orders or cash only. So, I sent him the payment that day via paypal. It went through, payment said it was complete, but the name did not match up on the account to the seller. I emailed the fella and said I sent him payment, 45 bucks for Dolphin and Frostbite boxed and shipping. He emails me back and says he does not have an account on paypal. I asked him to just sign up and send me back my payment, but he refuses. I asked of the names being different, but he says his brother in law let him secure his ebay account with his credit card (always something, isnt it?). Well, I know if I do not come good on this, he will flame me on feedback. So, I send him a money order. Now I have spent 90 bucks for two 10 dollar games. I am mad enough, but it gets better. I had not looked at the details for the cart label on Frostbite. It looks awful and to beat that, its ripped on the end. It does not work, but did after I cleaned it. The ultimate insult: Dolphin is DEAD! Trust me, I know how to clean a game, and that aint it. I am furious. And they stink like cigarette smoke. I do not know if I have any recourse. If I hit him with bad feedback, you know it will cause me to get one for taking so long on the payment- hence defeating the reason I paid for them twice. What do you think I should do? I am still mad about it. Cassidy

Quadrun is worth whatever you will be willing to pay for it. I know that a year ago there was a boxed one, but I have not seen one since. They are a lot like Computer Space machines; they go for whatever the owner wants to let it go for. I have seen them for 1000, and I have seen them for 5000, all depends who's interested and who's motivated to sell. If Quadrun completed your collection, and it meant your collection was "perfect", I could see spending that much for it. I personally do not think its worth more than 500-800, but thats me. I got lucky with mine, although I was willing to trade a Ms. Pac Man machine to get one. If you think games are expensive, check out Star Wars action figures from 1977. Woah, 3500 for a JAWA? Someday..... Cassidy

This is a post I feel really bad about posting. Please know I am not one of these "mine is better than yours" fellas; my favorite games have worn out labels and ripped ends. I just did not want you to spend extra for it on ebay, if you were going to buy it. I agree its a neat box (frankly, makes more sense to have a box that direction than the original or jr. box). Just my .25 cents. Cassidy
-
Looks like a repackaging from a store like EB or Software ETC. The manual is not for that system. If you are considering buying it, I would not pay extra for that box, as I do not think it is an Atari box, nor will it ever be valuable (Jr boxes are much smaller). Just my .25 cents. Cassidy

Do you think there would be a way to interchange the game files? For example, if there was a ROM of some sort, could we tap into the legs and run other games to it via a cartridge slot? Sure would be easier to maek the VCSp's with smaller parts! Cassidy
-
Yes, I am equally as frustrated. I have done the hacks, and just want to see how stuff fits where. I am getting to understand the dissections, but not sure what I would go about changing in one. For example: could you somehow use a routine that draws a background from one game, edit it, and use it in another? Seems like you should be able to. Cassidy BTW, what is the Stella @ 20? Not familiar with it.

1979 Atari X's & O's Cocktail Football..Parts??
Cassidy Nolen replied to speedweenie's topic in Atari 2600
I am sure this suggestion is redundant, but... Try posting a WTB on rec.games.video.arcade.marketplace and rec.games.video.arcade.collecting I have had lots of luck on those two groups. HTH, Cassidy -
Found a boxed 2600Jr. and 8 late 80's games for 19.19. Had all the manuals and looks great. Also found 3 sets of paddles for 3 bucks. Cleaned them up and they work great. Not bad all in all. Cassidy

I am interested. Are they wired for 2532 or 2732 eproms? LMK, Cassidy

Road Warrior was not for 2600, I already freaked out and asked. It was an arcade they were going to release. Good to see/hear you Mike! Yes, we did speak there. Neat evening. I am still suffering through the jetlag of 3000 miles. Cassidy

All right, I have read all the sites, so I downloaded the editgfx and showgfx programs, and I have made every charachter in my machine into a smiley face. Simple. Now I want to actually edit the hex code. I use DASM and then what? I do not know how to put it back together or what I am looking at/for. How do I change the color assignments? What are some of the basic commands I need for the program? Thanks, and yes, I have no idea what I am doing. Be patient, I will make it worthwile (I can see new games on the horizon...) Cassidy
