  1. Thanks guys. This also help tremendously.
  2. Thanks for the tip mr_me!
  3. I'm mostly collecting RPGs for these systems both North American and international but I'm always after a good deal, especially for the PS1, PS2, and PS3. If it isn't too much trouble I'd love to see pictures of the stacks as well. If it is too much time maybe just the RPGs then. I am also collecting sports games for the PS2 to fill all my empty spots so I'd likely take a large amount of sports games if you have them as well which should help you too because having tons of duplicates of them sucks. I purged my dupes of PS2 sports games several years ago and it was great to reclaim that space. LOL
  4. Oh that's a bummer. I'm actually going to use it and need to verify that it works 100%. No worries mate, I'll continue my search for one. Thanks for the extra image and the reply! Hopefully it will get a good home to someone here.
  5. Thanks for the post mate. Good to know about the Pi not being able to run Higan well enough. I could get away with SNES9x but only if it ran 100% full speed and audio with audio sync. Most the systems I use aren't on your list above but I get the gist of what you're saying. And definitely good to know about the Pi can take up more space than I had anticipated. The Main attraction to the Pi is stuffing in into a 3DO or Super Famicom case and have it not take up any more room. The two things that are most important are space and cost. Right now I already have a brand new computer case sitting in its original box unopened so I have 95% of the components I need so the cost is very low if I build the PC. I just need a power supply unit (PSU). The space issue can be solved by putting the PC in the movie room. I was just curious if a Pi would be a better solution for space but it sounds like maybe not..? I'm a little behind on emulators so I might need some advice on what is the best for compatibility and video/audio/framerate for the below systems if I may go semi-offtopic. The internet is so full of biased opinions and old information that it is hard to differentiate what is bias /old and what is actual real data. 3DO Dreamcast (is it emulated yet?) GameBoy/GameBoy Color/GameBoy Advance GameCube (is it emulated yet?) Game Gear MSX 1&2 NES Original XBOX (is it emulated yet?) Genesis/CD/32X Saturn TG-16/TG-16 CD Wii (is it emulated yet?)
  6. What do you want for the Nuby GameBoy speaker adaptor? Have a few questions. Can you post a pic of the back? Do both speakers work and they are not blown? Does it have the original battery door?
  7. Whatcha got? I heavily collect disc-based games now, including PS2, XBOX, XBOX 360, PS3, and PS1 to name a few systems. Most of my local sources are dried up or out of business so my collecting for these has severely diminished. I give myself a disposable fund every month for stuff and usually it gets eaten up by video games. LOL
  8. Oh, do tell? Any of these GBAs that are backwards compatible with GB/GBC or just a knockoff GBC? Not that this would be important since I don't really have too many GBA games I want to play right now.
  9. ^ This is the dream. If I win the lottery I'll open up a proper arcade and revenue be damned. Right now I'd kill for the $$$ to be able to get either an NBA Jam or a Street Fighter II arcade cabinet. LOL That and the space to put it!
  10. I'm in this boat of needing to setup an emulation machine since I've traded away all my carts (after ripping them to ROMs) and I'm intrigued about this Pi thing. I already have the PC components to build a monster of an emulation machine (details below) but it'll be in a regular PC mid-tower case and take up some space that I'd like to try and save if possible. The Pi thing could solve the space problem but I have a few lingering questions I need help with. A couple of notes here. I'll be putting this machine either upstairs in our movie theatre or in my PS4 kiosk in the office/game room once I get the TV mount fabricated. Space is at a premium if in the office but not in the movie theatre. Cost is only a minor issue since I already have all of the components for the PC minus PSU here since these came out of my former gaming PC. I'd have to piece together the Pi over a medium time period and I also would want to use a broken retro console to mount it in as well (possibly a 3DO FZ-1 or Super Famicom)--all of which cost money. I already have two original XBOXes, one of which I already soft-modded in to an emulation machine but I believe I have a leaky clock capacitor which has caused some issues so I believe this system is dead. The other I'm keeping as-is unmodified. My PC components: AMD Phenom II X4 Black Edition 3.6Ghz G.Skill Ripjaws X 1600 8GB RAM nVidia GTX 560 video card or GTX 960 S-SC, not sure which to use yet and will be based on my PSU power output 128GB Crucial SSD My Raspberry Pi questions: Is there a Pi beefy enough to run Higan? If not yes to the first point above is there one beefy enough to run the best emulators for each system @ 100%? If not yes to the above what systems are capable of running 100% speed and audio? Other than my Higan question are there any other cycle-accurate emulators for other systems and can they run full speed and audio? I heard that blue tooth has input lag, is that true? If I don't really have much interest in MAME is setting one up pretty easy for everything else 8-bit, 16-bit, and 32-bit? So, that's what's on my mind and this brings me to the last question. Assuming no input lag and full speed/audio on most/all of the systems I'd play is it worth having a Pi over a built PC taking space out of the equation? I like the idea of an emulation PC that can also double as my media server but I also like the idea of saving some space. Thoughts?
  11. Wow, just ... wow. I'd love to see something like this done for the Super Famicom. As Fry said...
  12. I think this is a great post. Especially that last sentence. I started ROM Hacking in the late 90's and was really active in the community for most of the 21st century so I understand the emulation scene and most to almost all of it is populated by gamers in the purist sense. In a way these people are like you and me (along with any other 35+ year old original gamer from their youth), most of them want to play games and in some cases like myself wanted to hack/edit/alter games to create a new experience or solve a problem. I consider people who emulate to be just as much of a true gamer as the bloke who buys physical media to actually play on their TV. Back to the original topic. I suppose I am both a collector and a gamer. I'm a collector simply because I enjoy the experience of collecting more than the destination and because love seeing all the art and content most games have to offer. And of course a bunch of it will look fantastic on my gaming shelves once I get them bought and setup. I'm also a gamer because like someone posted previously... Gaming is life, life is gaming. The 80's and early 90's were the best years of gaming for me but my desire to collect from those years is long past minus some obscure stuff like 3DO, PC, and the oddball 16-bit game. I recently traded about ~250 games and a couple consoles (all cartridge-based) to a buddy of mine because I wanted out of 8-bit & 16-bit cartridge collecting market due to space considerations and mostly because of price. Sad to see a bunch of that go that I had collected for the last ~30+ years but I can always emulate these perfectly with most of it cycle-accurate and since he was also a collector and professional console repair tech he was thrilled. So I traded 90% of my SNES games+1 of my 3 consoles, Genesis games +1 of my consoles, NES, GameGear, Intellivision, and the oddball list of accessories. What I got out of it was a PS4 Pro, PS3 (100% backwards compatible with PS1/PS2), some PS3/PS4 RPGs, WildARMs 1-5, Suikoden II-V, and some others. This was worth more value to me in the end knowing that I can acquire most of these games for pretty cheap on these consoles for at least a while. A bunch of this hobby gets lost with social media/youtube as with most things because of how this has impacted our society and social structure. I can no longer randomly talk to someone about games while waiting in line to put my quarters in. The last couple of times I tried to talk to someone about games while in a game store they gave me their facebook/twitter name and said "lets talk there!". I politely waited until I got home before throwing that note away--sorry I prefer to talk to humans in person on the rare occasion I want to interact with someone. But let me be clear, something I should of posted in my first post, social media/youtube isn't 100% to blame for ruining retro gaming and impacting pricing, technology itself has the largest responsibility for at least the former. Before social media retro gaming was alive and you could still meet and talk to other gamers in some of your local resale stores that sold games or arcades. Now all that human interaction is gone as is the ability to "hunt" to find that rare game or specific game you want. I still have several of my old Funcoland pricing sheets which sometimes I look at to remind me what it was like before the internet. LOL Not sure who here is old like I am but I remember walking in to this thing called an Arcade where they had huge wooden cabinets with TV screens and games in them! It was a great time full of mostly great people who all shared a common bond and love for their favorite hobby--that is except for the occasional fist fight because someone beat you in Street Fighter II (LOL, been there done that!). Human to human interaction was king in the arcades back in the "olden days" but now with no more real arcades or physical gathering places like resale game or rental stores for us gamers there really isn't an outlet so this social media is it. Gross as that may seem that is it folks.
  13. I get my codes from here: http://bsfree.shadowflareindustries.com/index.php Hope this helps. Thank you for letting me know the details. I really should get one of these at some point... I'm just dying to play some GBx games on the couch while my wife watches her trash TV. LOL
  14. That's a shame. Saw several on Etsy for insane amounts of money. I don't have the skills or patience to do any sort of modding myself or I'd do it myself. Thanks for the heads up but I like the non-SP GBA shell better. I had an SP and it was just too uncomfortable to hold with my large hands. Thanks for the tip!
  15. Any good recommendations on where to get a quality backlit GBA?
  16. At first glance I was interested in getting one of these but after reading about the audio issues that put me off. While I'm not surprised a $40 unit isn't high quality what I am surprised is the expectation the community apparently has of them. Come on guys, this thing isn't marketed for us. It is marketed at the 35-50 somethings who want to desperately play Super Mario Bros. one last time before it collects dust in a closet. Oh and FYI, my RetroN5 is actually perfectly fine and does a fantastic job thank you very much. I did however put it back in its box all nice and neat because I rarely play those retro games on my living room TV. It is mostly either on my PSP or gaming computer upstairs until I can finish turning one of my PS4 kiosks in to a retro gaming hub.
  17. Do you have a 3DO FZ-1 to test? I wonder if my iPhone 5s would be good enough to test this..?
  18. Pretty much a four way tie. Dreamcast XBOX PS4 Pro (how is this thing so loud, I mean its a new system?) 3DO FZ-1
  19. I think the handling charge should be reasonable because I do believe in recouping some materials cost, especially for those people who do not have a large volume business who can get their packing materials for cheap. It adds up after a while if you are a large volume seller... To the OP, I definitely think it was a miscalculation by the seller and they should rectify it for you. If they don't open a case with ebay. Problem is they may get pissed off and damage your product. LOL
  20. You'll be able to rock almost any DOS game and most Windows 95/98 games with those specs.
  21. Moving your character or controlling your race vehicle with the dpad. I miss games using the directional pad more often. Some games outright just refuse to do anything with it or it is relegated to just selecting items. Ugh...
  22. I second the not having high scores saved, on consoles at least. I'd like my SF2 score on my SNES to be stored in a battery so I can try to beat it. On the PSX when the first Street Fighter Alpha/Zero came out and stored my scores I was blown away and have ever since to try and beat them when go back and play it and SFA3.
  23. You should still be able to report that to ebay as suspicious seller behavior. They can and will investigate because ebay only cares about buyers and not sellers. Which is why I don't sell on ebay any more. Also, yea, Chinese sellers are notorious for shady stuff on ebay. I've had the keep the item for X price and I'll cancel the order routine before.
  24. My first PC I had with my own money (mowing laws as an 11 yearold FTW!) was also a Packard Bell. My specs that I can remember were... Model: PB 23 (?) CPU: 486 25Mhz (OC'd to 33Mhz because they only had a jumper to determine which speed to use LOL) RAM: 2MB RAM (upgraded to 4MB to play Doom and Wing Commander Privateer smoothly) VRAM: 512KB Video RAM (Upgraded to 2MB to play Doom in a larger window) HDD: 125MB hard drive (?) Sound card: Soundblaster Pro II (upgraded to Soundblaster 16) Modem: 2400 or 4800 baud modem (?) 2X CD Rom drive Windows 3.11 for workgroups
  25. I just tossed my last GeForce 2 MX card. My last S3 is long gone.
