  1. 6 switch woodgrain - it's the epitomy of Atari. however, mine's currently in its box and I'm using a Jr (black - short rainbow model) as the picture quality is better.
  2. Well, when you get it rolling - if you want any flash content - let me know
  3. Well, I'd imagine cuttlecarts will work the same the world over, what I really mean is - if all I can load into this thing are NTSC roms, won't a dedicated console that is working on a PAL system be a bit of a waste of time. Surely I'd need PAL roms for my locale. By the way, I've got a TV that'll do both tv standards - because I play NTSC ps1 games via a scart lead, I know an RF aerial connector (standard issue for PAL 2600's) will only transmit a PAL signal but what about composite? If I mod my PAL atari to composite will it play NTSC games in true colours?
  4. Right then, i'm REAL close to going ahead with this daft notion of building a CD based 2600, obv. I'd need a cuttle cart as a go between and the casing would have to be altered. Maybe I could go the woodgrain route and actually carve the casing out of wood and polish it up all nice My big question here is that since I live in the world of PAL, would it be worth me getting a Cuttle cart anyway?? as most of the available roms seem to be NTSC. I also toyed with the idea of making a PAL/NTSC switchable 2600 (with composite output) but I don't know if that's possible.
  5. hey voch, I take it back, after running a more recent version of stella - it all works fine. whatever you did - nice job.
  6. right, there are a couple going real cheap on ebay tomorrow, I may well snap one up
  7. ninja golf??? can there surely be a game that combines the gentle excitement of mastering the links with total full-on chop-socky kung-fu action????
  8. Right then, I LOVE the 2600,particularly Activisions stuff, good simple playability. I'm toying with buying a 7800 - but am I really gonna get anything out of it? NES and SMS both left me a bit cold. Is there any of the old Atari magic in this one?
  9. hey, this is what this community thing is all about! You wouldn't get this sort of good feeling amongst PS2 fans
  10. p.s. anyone else making homebrew carts, I hope you all realise you now have a top pool of talent to tap among the various entries.
  11. wow, thanks jonathan - I'm glad someone knew, while I'm at it - what the hell is a sorcerers stone? and why did they rename the book to that in US??? - oops - off topic
  12. Oh my god!! er....I'm Dave Exton and I'm deeply humbled! Everyones entries were brilliant and I didn't think for one moment I'd win (especially with that girl one haha!) I like the idea of giving everyone their own cart,...hang on! That means I'm the only one who gets a 'stock' cart hehehe
  13. interesting, I don't personally own a 7800 yet (I'll attempt to rectify that this weekend) so if someone can have a go with one of these proline sticks on their system and let me know if the 2 buttons actually do different things, I'd be grateful. On my 2600 both buttons just act the same, so I naturally assumed they were wired together
  14. I'd have to say about half the games in combat are pretty pointless, but the tank stuff is fine
  15. If anyone's after Xenophobe PAL (or indeed pretty much ANY PAL game) new copies can be ordered from telegames
  16. yeah, maybe at 80x48 you could pull it off with a respectable frame rate.
  17. hehe, nice. One thing about swordquest that intrigued me (don't worry it's not the game - I'm not that backward) is that the prize for beating Airworld was going to be a Philosophers Stone. Hmmm, as in Harry Potter and the... ? What the heck IS a philosophers stone anyway??
  18. wow! Thanks jobf, that is completely outstanding - I can stop looking for Quadrun now A bit off topic, but what would you guys say were the rarest PAL games in the UK?
  19. Mind, though I'm convinced this is fake (or at best VERY slow), there's no reason why a decent version of Doom with a good frame rate couldnt be done in line vectors with hidden-line-removal, as in Novalogics' Mercenary.
  20. the difference with this is that its filled vectors for floor, walls and ceiling. This has been done before, very expertly on the c64 and spectrum by Incentive software (their 'freescape' system) in games like Driller in the late 80s. But the freescape games, which had a playfield about as complicated as those Doom shots, moved at about 0.5 frames per second. OK for an adventure, no good at all for a fps.
  21. well, I don't really have any need to know my own time on the messageboard ( i got a watch for that ) It's just kinda nice to know if I'm trying to get a raise out of you guys at 4 in the morning.
  22. OK, you gotta keep the clutch out for the countdown, revving the t*ts in 1st, count in your head or out loud - you hit zero more accurately that way. then just redline into 2nd,3rd (watch this one, its REAL easy to blow your engine here).then when you get into 4th, pop the clutch a couple of times so you're just over 2/3 up the speedo and rev till it whistles. You should break 6.
  23. I use stella on my mac. Its OK but there are problems on some carts - most notably Custers revenge...which I was only...er...testing...you know,...for...er....research and that.
  24. I dont think you'd need a landfill for 5 million GBA carts, more like a shoebox
