Cool yeah, I'm not big on sports either, but I might get that baseball game and pretend it's rounders (see'off topic - world series')
-
I think 8-way would be just fine
I don't have too many Intelli games, are there any that REALLY need 16-way control?
I did think of modding a NES controller, puting a tiny keypad on the right hand side (heck, I'm only making one of them - I could make my OWN overlays)

I absolutely suck at Star Raiders but it is a great game. That video touchpad might as well be one big button saying "kill me now". - anyway - this thread was about odd games, we all know the Atari had a slew of bad games (though the ones mentioned were not - dragster rules) which is why we had that videogame crash.
I agree with the above, most Atari games are odd and that's what makes em great. it seems Nintendo are attempting the same thing on the new Gamecube - I hope they can pull it off. I don't want to live in a world of driving games, fps and beat-em-ups. Gimme monkey ball any day (yeah - I know that's Sega)

ah heck, its cheap and you get to use the paddle. It's gonna entertain you for at least 5 minutes - which is a lot better than Tekken tag
-
yeah, but when do you define '3d games' as starting. Novalogics 'Mercenary' on the c64 was pretty convincing 3d, as was the Star Wars arcade machine. Filled polygons, too, were around way before the genesis.
For me, classic gaming is anything from the era where game design mattered more than 'graphics engines' - and when a killer game could be written by one person

I'll give the commander patch a go
i did manage to get (apparently) the 2nd fastest Dragster time in the world so I could well be on a roll
(life's too short to do the Freeway badge tho)

centipede was great - VERY fast.
worst one - pac man or double dragon.
I actually liked the original defender. not much like the arcade game, but it played pretty well in its own right.
berzerk wasn't much good, but that wasn't the atari's fault. it needs speech.

I got sick of rooting around in the packaging of the games I won trying to fish the gherkin out

Oh My God!
Just got space shuttle today (the activision one).
I can't believe this is running on a 4-6k atari cartridge!!! totally brilliant!!
And there was me thinking that the function of the colour/b+w switch was gospel set in stone.
Its the kind of game that makes you glad to be american.....even if you're not.

you gotta know how to use ebay, i mean - in terms of being able to judge the character of the guy you're buying from.
I've only been burned once, cause I was optimistic and pretty dumb.
and I never..ever.. send cash.
yay! just got a really nice boxed pitfall!

extra copies of combat and pacman should be bundled up with an atari you bought somewhere and given to a non-atarian for Xmas.
That's what I'm doing - spread the joy

Thanks reason for asking was, I just wanted to check my facts - that magazine I was on about 'computer and video games' always claimed to be the first ever games magazine (excepting in-house stuff obv.). it started march 81.
Just checking

hmmm, Pac Man is pretty odd when you think about it. what the hell was going on there??
-
what was WITH the pole position cartoon.
I mean, it had cars, but there the resemblance ends.
I hope, though, that cars of the future do include a smiley faced computer
-
is missile command good with the trackball?
-
I used to read Computer and Video Games mag. it's still going but it's junk now.
Anyone know when Electronic Games mag started?

Ebay works fine for me.
You just don't find many 2600 carts 'wild' in the UK and, without ebay, I wouldn't have been able to get half as many great games as I have now.
It's either that or inflated store prices.
-
Definitely a 2600. yeah, you can play its games on a 7800 - but you can also play em on an emulator - its not the point.
For the real feel of those old Atari games, there's no substitute for the real thing (may I recommend the original 6 switch wood-panelled model)
-
Sounds nice. Unfortunately I have a mac (doh!)
A rom for the 2600 emulator would be smart tho
-
Must have a look at it, TV series don't often make good games.
i'm just thankful we never got 'Golden Girls'
-
aaargh, what is mst3k? what does it stand for?
-
Don't worry, I'm not going to harp on about that useless disc.
Thing is, I'm toying with the idea of rebuilding an Intellivision, in a smaller casing - with built in Intellivoice and detachable controllers.
My only problem is, what should I use for controllers?? The existing ones are famously bad. Ideally, I want to keep that 16-way control, and have a controller that I can mount a little 12 key keypad in (double points if the overlays go in too )
-
i can't believe they've had problems getting 10 vcs games right!!
They're VCS games!!!!!
-
I like the proposed title of that Imagic game (can't remember which one)
It was gonna be called 'escape from argos'
Argos, in the UK, is a chain of god-awful catalogue stores populated by nasty common gold-creole-earring-wearing-300-kids women.
Now THERES a game!

Instruction Storage, Really need some help on this one
