Right. I've bought the first 3 episode block from the PSN store. I have to say, that after the impressive demo, I'm disappointed. The dialogue is often very forced (particularly the cursing, I don't mind a bit of language but this just feels tacked on) and the schoolboy character is pretty annoying although you'll be controlling a range of protagonists throughout, rather like Eternal Darkness. The game opens with a mission to escape an undead police officer, but the actual path of your escape is a matter of trial and error, or rather trial and repeated death in the dark. Once you get past that, the game is just a follow-my-lead exercise of performing whatever action command pops up on screen. This is true of the first and some of the second episodes (the demo was comprised of the good parts from ep.2). As is usual in these survival horror games, the controls are often a bit clunky and you'll find yourself swinging your weapon at empty space while the zombie (or shibito as they're called here) you were aiming for gets a free bite. This said, there's a lot of tension and a real sense of fear and danger. These aren't your resi zombies. They're smart and they talk and have an instinct for self preservation. I haven't played episode 3 yet (and boy, these are short) but if the preview is anything to go by (each episode has a 'next time in..' segment) the extra characters and plot developments should push things along a bit. Well, they'd better do if they want me to buy the next pack

What's the Worst Game You Have Ever Played?
liveinabin replied to Freakin' Duck's topic in Modern Console Discussion
There are loads of games that should never have been made, like Street Fighter: The Movie. However, the prize must go to Test Match cricket on the zx-spectrum. It goes like this. Cricket field is drawn on screen with little stick men You press key to bowl ball You are awarded with "Break: Line error at 5824" and that's the end. Not even Ubisoft are that bad -
Played a demo of it tonight. Damn, that's a great game. Not sure if I could take the full game though. My nerves are no good when it comes to stealth titles, particularly titles as flat-out terrifying as this. I think it's got the best motion captured humans of any game so far. The dialog scenes are proper good, rather a stark contrast to Resident Evil's 'Days of our lives' style dramatics.

I think maybe they should have an option for a fat prince, with all-girl troops to rescue him.

Why is the PS3 so much more popular in Europe?...
liveinabin replied to ataridave's topic in Sony Playstation 3
There have always been a few patterns in the buying habits of different nations. Japanese generally buy Japanese (and small), Americans usually (where possible) buy American and Europeans, ourselves (UK) included, are gadget whores and have to have the flashest newest tech. I think the raw power of it, along with the blu-ray drive is the reason it's pulling away. We've only really recently gone crazy for Hi-def, and the only 1080p console is looking a no-brainer for our shiny new TV's. Added to which, although the first person shooter (the province of the 360) is very popular here as in US, there is perhaps more diversity towards other game styles. -
It's still worth keeping a look out for. If nothing else, it's the best use of the Wii remote in a game (including Nintendo's own stuff). That control system is just so elegant.

what do think is the best mario game?

Mario Galaxy for sure. -
Wii Motion Plus... How Will Nintendo Market It?
liveinabin replied to Mendon's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
I don't imagine it'll have much support beyond Sports Resort, at least not for a year or so. It's a risky thing Nintendo are doing here, though the user base might be big enough to pull it off (assuming the stand-alone cost of each Motion-Plus is low). Everytime someone tries something like this, I just remember the 32X. -
iPhone games...I'm actually impressed
liveinabin replied to Lord Helmet's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Sega claim that the iPhone is roughly comparable in performance to the Dreamcast. Now as far as I'm concerned that's an open invitiation for us to email Shenmue III demands to them en masse. -
Well, my introduction to gaming was home computers (ZX81, Spectrum etc.) and coin ops like Space Invaders so I am, I suppose, a keyboard guy. However, I do love the thumbstick of modern console controllers. That's a really elegant solution for most games. Of course, there are times when paddles, force feedback wheels, fishing rods etc. are the only way to go.

It sorely needs better AI for the townsfolk. From what I saw in the movie footage of this game, they're still saying the same random non-sequitirs. This is almost a direct port of AC: Wild World. What the hell have they been doing for two years?

That looks awesome. This is where the PS3 really shines. The PSN network content is getting really good. And what about Flower? What a great idea for a game.

Doesn't seem to feature much that the other versions didn't have. While I loved the first two, I'm a little concerned that the series is beginning to stagnate, like Harvest Moon did. As for the 'wiispeak', I don't see how that'll work. Other consoles have headsets for a reason. You stick an open mic by the TV and it's going to pick up TV noise, surely.

No need for a PS3 Ever. FF XIII for Xbox 360.
liveinabin replied to Lord Helmet's topic in Microsoft Xbox 360
Makes sense to go multiplatform. For greater US sales, the 360 is the platform to go to. For Japan and, increasingly, Europe, the PS3 is the go to console. Doesn't lessen the PS3 in my eyes though. It's a wonderful machine. I'm more interested in exclusive original titles that make the most of each platform. Big sequels like this might as well make the most money they can so the developers can afford to make those original titles. -
Robotron followed by Star Wars (the stand up version, I just like the look of it over the sit down)

Space Invaders Extreme! (BUY IT)
liveinabin replied to Atari Master's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Played the PSP demo yesterday. My god, what an awesome game! That's how to reinvigorate a tired concept. I'll be picking that up. -
Activision now the largest game company in the world
liveinabin replied to Gregory DG's topic in Modern Console Discussion
So would I. Perhaps this is independent games producers (ie. not tied into a console). As for EA being number two, they've really improved their quality of late. I used to avoid EA games like the plague but they're really trying now. Show's where that get's you -
ET is a really inventive game. I think what annoys people about it is that it's a great game with a number of bugs/issues - the pit thing being one. I'd far better have that than the majority of unimaginative trash that plagued the 2600. I'd say it was one of the better original 2600 titles, it gets a far worse reputation than it deserves. If it hadn't been overproduced and tied in to a massively popular movie, history would have been kinder to it.

I'm about 3 quarters of the way through the SNES original. Might start again on the DS version if it's a significant enough upgrade. I love that game.

In game XMB and Trophies detailed (video)
liveinabin replied to Lord Helmet's topic in Sony Playstation 3
And custom soundtracks too. Hurrah! This is a good one. -
I got rid of it as it was a very pale imitation of the Saturn game. Hours of trudging around punctuated by the chance to actually fly about as Nights, which is ruined by the fact that you're always chasing that bird thing, removing the chance to explore. It's just not Nights. Not at all.

what do you think is the best slient hill game?
liveinabin replied to dark 666's topic in Modern Console Discussion
The first one, definitely. After that, it all felt to me like they were going through the motions - klaxxon + walls of blood - check!, undead nurses - check! Not that they weren't fun, but the original set the bar so very high. -
I've never seen the attraction in ESB. It's like an Amish Defender So damn repetitive and empty. The arcade game was a pretty good version considering the hardware, pales a bit now we have mame but still fun.

In January 2000. I took the plunge big-style with a huge Pioneer DV-717. I loved that big champagne colored behemoth. Although it's moved on now, it's feet have found new life on my chipped Xbox. Like pretty much everyone, my first DVD was the Matrix.
