Have you ever worked on a commercially released video game?
liveinabin replied to Rhindle The Red's topic in Poll Forum
I did cover art on a couple of ps2 games: sd gundam force and inuyasha as well as the gba version of the gundam game. Pretty low key stuff but fun to do. -
stick with that loco roco game. It is nothing like the original but the level design is really clever and it kinda works as a game in it's own right. Anyway, we get a real psp sequel this year - yay!

I agree with that. And, because of this, I'd say the best system for a classic gamer is the PS3. The other two are just dishing up things you've already played for the most part. While there's not a lot of content on the PS3 (compared to the other two), I'd say there's a high percentage of good stuff there.

pain! Quite limited in gameplay but damn it makes me laugh I like launching at the top of the hotel, grabbing the bikini girl and trying to carry her as far as possible. Also, have you landed in the larger of those 3 chimneys and then activated the super ooch? Big air

I have the demo and I absolutely love the mustang/ san francisco race, but the touring car stuff leaves me a bit cold. Still, the feeling of 'being there' is better than any race game I've ever played. You really feel part of a big race event and the racer AI is fantastic (especially their completely believable mistakes/ mass pile ups). I might pick it up in a month or so, certainly at the top of my (admittedly short) PS3 want list.

News: PS3 Next firmware to include achievements etc.

I thought the last update was a major one, hi def audio from Bluray discs! Not sure if I'll make use of acheivements but I guess it's nice to have extra little 'sandbox' things to work for in games. -
I usually use my bookmark for AtariAge to check when my connection is working as it's always the most stable site I actually changed all the DNS settings for the home network before it even occurred to me that AA might really be down!

Wouldn't really work, you hold the remote differently in Excite Truck (with the buttons facing upwards rather than towards you).

Single player games on the way out, says Phil Harrison

I bet Shigeru Miyamoto begs to differ. -
the 'dreary factor' in a lot of games.

I agree wholeheartedly with this thread. I don't want post-apocalyptic gloom. There's a movement i support of 'blue sky gaming' actually. But even in games with lovely bright colors, the pallette usually darkens as you go through the game. I want all games to look like level 1. -
BEYOND GOOD AND EVIL 2 ! ! ! ! AAAAAHHH ! ! ! !

YEEESSSSS!!!!!! And doesn't it look lovely? The first one was the best looking game I had on the Gamecube but the visual leap is startling. -
Best racing game on the Wii, hands down.

I think they should release a flash memory (32Gb+) add on that takes the form of a replacement stand.

What the hell has he got where his thumbs should be?!?

I'm sure you'll be able to pick them up cheaper than that. Very few people are going to want to pay $600 for a console that's just a different color. It'll drop pretty sharply as the stock languishes on the shelf.
-
I'd go for the 5200 or 800. Something big and chunky to play with. The C64 is fun but getting the tapes and discs to load (after all this time) is a pain. I tend to use emulation for computers and the real thing as far as consoles are concerned.

Is the GameCube officially "done"?
liveinabin replied to DracIsBack's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I'm with you on all those. Endless Ocean is just the most wonderful game. How exciting was that deep sea dive? As for the Gamecube. I think it died such a sudden death because games in development for it moved to the Wii when it was launched so you didn't get the gradual winding down of releases that consoles usually have. -
The blue based discs are CD-ROMS (rather than DVD-ROM). I think the problem you're having is playing dual layer DVD-ROM discs. Not really much of a solution to that AFAIK, looks like your laser is a bit off. That said, what better day for it as today, 16th May, back in 1960, the first ever laser beam was demonstrated. So, while yours is f****d, at least it's topical

I did make a note of which way round it was when taking it apart. It was folded such that it only really fits in comfortably one way anyway. I'm worried that I might have damaged it. Oh, and I did think of swapping the drives around but they both have different fittings, odd considering they're both mark 1 PAL Saturns. The Saturn was really a bit of a hotch potch effort wasn't it?
-
They do seem to suffer from overheating. Mine plays fine for ever until you turn it off, after which you've got to leave it for a few hours before turning it on again, otherwise you get a picture full of lines, a whining noise and no disc access. I did buy another Saturn last week to replace it, but in the midst of swapping the innards over (my old case was in better condition), I must have done something wrong because it not doesn't see the disc drive! Doh! 5 minutes of play is a bit excessive though. I can't imagine it even has time to heat up in 5 minutes.

I used to have a couple of thousand £ in debt that I couldn't shift, but luckily a lucrative bit of artwork for some PS2 game covers wiped it out all in one go. Since then I've kept the credit cards empty.

Oh my god, Cho Aniki is actually on the Wii! That is one of the most hilariously homo-erotic games ever. One for the family I think

This is NOT a GTA IV thread (finally!)

What we really need is a next-gen remake of Ninja Golf -
I got really bored with it halfway through. To me it just felt like one joke that went on for far too long.

2 Brief reviews, 1 budget, 1 big name.
liveinabin replied to Atari5200's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
Excite Truck is just awesome. I have it and Motorstorm and, even with the huge gulf in visual quality between the two, I'd still much rather play Excite Truck. I'm not normally one for sequels but I really hope they're working on one for this. As a launch game, it will have been rushed to market to some extent and I'd love to see a more fleshed out version. The multiplayer was definitely tacked on at the last minute, they can do a lot with that.
