  1. Netflix: who wants to watch a show you know will be cancelled in two seasons

Netflix purposefully limits shows to 2 or 3 seasons; then refocuses their energies elsewhere, because new shows tend to make a bigger splash (i.e. brings in more subscriptions)  than season 4 or 5 of the big debut from a few years' back.

I'm actually OK with that.  There's a *lot* of TV series that had an interesting premise - maybe one or two seasons' worth of content - then they ran out of good ideas but kept trying to squeeze blood from the stone for another 5-6 seasons.

I thoroughly enjoyed Black Flag. But none of the more recent entries have grabbed me.

  6. Did any other Rock bands follow the Heart model, which was hard rock in the 70s, the successfully transition to light songs in the 80s?

Michael Bolton's another. He had a handful of hard rock albums, rubbing elbows with Kiss and Ozzy. Then made a hard transition into pop/AC in '87.  I remember seeing one of his early videos pop up from time to time on Headbanger's Ball, which was always very weird.

Not exactly "hard" rock, but after several multiplatinum albums, Chicago were pretty much done in by disco and punk at end of the 70s. However they caught a second wind by shifting direction (largely thanks to David Foster and Peter Cetera) to a more pop/adult contemporary sound - if they didn't invent the power ballad, they certainly helped refine it and turn it into a surefire money maker.

  8. Got a bunch of sealed 2600 and 5200 games today and it's interesting to see all the quality differences between the Atari Inc. and Atari Corp. releases. Even the shrinkwrap is higher quality on the Atari Inc. stuff!

Pretty certain 5200 games weren't shrinkwrapped at the factory either.

Are they worth checking out beyond this tune?

Nope. That was their hit.  They had more success as solo acts (well, Joan Jett and Lita Ford... not sure about the others)

  10. So Marvel is all about No Spoilers, but I saw an Endgame preview **Paraphrasing** Why don't we take that thing Thanos had and reverse it to bring everyone back to life? Yup! Let's do that! Damn it Marvel!!!

      Laner

I dunno; using the glove to reverse time seems like the most obvious solution.

  12. New SP Star Wars game being made by Respawn, seems a surefire hit but some folks are already unhappy :)

Titanfall 2 was pre-acquisition. EA only had distribution rights at the time, and they sent it out to die.

If they weren't owned by EA, I would have much more confidence in the final product. As for now, it's very much wait-and-see

  15. Captain Marvel? More like Captain Mediocre. A solid 6/10 movie. I’m a little worried about her role in Endgame now.

I haven't seen the movie, but if she sweeps in and saves the day where the rest of the heroes could not (with no mention of her prior to Infinity War), that's some pretty egregious deus ex machina.

An actual cassette copy of it? At one point that was worth a lot of cash. Not sure if that's still the case, though.

  17. Radio stations in Canada are dropping Michael Jackson's music from play lists.

Two thoughts: 1. the dead can't defend themselves. 2. if you're going to stop playing artists' music for questionable behavior/allegations, let's at least be consistent across the board. Which would leave very little pop music unscathed.

  18. Cleveland radio station bans Christmas classic Baby It's Cold Outside. What's the world coming too these days? Sad times.

    1. Laner

      Laner

The one they should really ban is "Last Christmas." Because it's not a Christmas song. You could substitute any holiday and the song would not change in any fundamental way.

  19. This afternoon I stumbled on a Baby Pac-Man machine at a local arcade. After playing 2 games of Baby Pac-Man my life will never be the same. Pac-Man AND pinball together in the same machine!? This may be the greatest game ever made.

      Laner

I had fond memories of playing it back in the day. Finally got a chance to revisit the real deal last year - can't say I particularly enjoyed it. It's not good Pac-Man, nor is it good pinball. /shrug

  20. A lotta pedantry here of late. Annoying.

  21. Another Brick in the Wall, Pt2 was considered disco? Actually, you can hear the disco riff Bob Ezrin pushed for, but it's a small part of the whole. Bob Ezrin also added the choir on his own.

    1. Laner

      Laner

It's a bit slow for disco, but it's definitely disco-adjacent.

  22. I've never been a Toto fan, but I've recently grown to appreciate them, and watch their videos. They have a large band, but every individual is doing ALMOST NOTHING. They truly are the laziest bunch I've ever seen, and they do well.

    1. Laner

      Laner

Can't say I've ever heard Toto described as "lazy" before. Steve Lukather (guitar) and Jeff Pocaro (drums) are considered two of the greatest of all time, for good reason.

  23. Am I safe to have 2 identical videos on my channel with the only difference being the audio? I'm worried it could be flagged as spam. It's this video, but with a new version of the remix

    1. Laner

      Laner

Shouldn't be a problem. One of the channels I manage regularly posts virtually identical videos, with the audio track changed for multiple languages. Never had an issue.
