  1. The 7800 in our house, while technically a gift to my brother, ended up being mine because he wanted an NES. Even so, it never got as much play as the C64 I already had. From there I progressed to the PC in '91, before getting a PSX in '96.
  2. My trusty 1084 went belly up after a decade of faithful service. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38LFHRxp_As The black lines in the middle have now extended all the way down the lower half of the screen. I tried eBay at first, but after receiving not one, but two DOA replacements (physically damaged, unusable), I figured I should try to get the one I have fixed. Is anyone here within 100-150 miles of Nashville, TN that can repair it, or point me towards someone who can? I'd really rather not ship it if I can help it due to age and fragility. Thanks!
  3. Don't say that My credit card is burning a hole in my pocket for one of those, after receiving not one, but two, DOA CRTs from eBay over the past week.
  4. I have a Dell 2005FP that works with a 23-pin to VGA adapter; however, I'm constantly having to adjust the screen positioning whenever the screen mode changes. Does the NEC monitor sidestep that problem?
  5. I own a PS4, and will probably wait until there's a decent critical mass of games that take advantage of the updated hardware. However, I don't have an XBone and will probably buy the upgraded version as soon as it's out, particularly if it will support the Rift/Vive out of the box. None of this really surprises me; the phone/tablet market has shown there are plenty of people willing to get on the every 2-3 year upgrade treadmill. Remains to be seen if console owners will follow suit, but I wouldn't be surprised. And if it eliminates backwards compatibility issues in the process, so much the better.
  6. Whaddyaknow... that might also explain why my new-for-me C128 has a slight dip in the middle.
  7. My dad was an optometrist, and he would get points for buying a certain number of frames. He could the redeem those points towards other goods; one time he redeemed them for a Timex Sinclair 1000. I think it was supposed to be a birthday present for me, but I discovered it at his office well in advance of my birthday. It was fun for a while, but its limitations were apparent very quickly. I ended up getting a Commodore 64 a few months later for Christmas.
  8. I bought a very clean VIC recently, but the colors were completely off. This did the trick!
  9. Commodore PET 2001 would be my biggest irrational want... absolutely no use for it other than to look at it, but man, I love the built in monitor with the trapezoidal housing.
  10. Hm... I have a 2001FP at my desk at work. Might need to smuggle that home one night.
  11. Great idea - I devoured Compute!'s Gazette each month for several years.
  12. The power supply does not have a typical 3 pin fan connector - the existing fan leads are soldered directly into the board, and my soldering skills are non-existent. And I had the A600 supply readily available. But I may look for someone to do the mod eventually. Thanks for weighing in!
  13. To piggyback on this discussion; I have an A1200 with an ACA 1231 expansion (68030, 42Mhz, 64MB) which came with a custom power supply from Amigakit. Now, it works fine, but the fan in the PSU is ridiculously loud. I *also* have an A600 power supply which seems to work fine with the expanded A1200 - it will run AGA games via WHDLoad, etc. Will this cause problems if I continue to use it?
  14. It was filthy as well, and the guy said in the product description that he accepted returns for any reason. So I took him up on the offer.
  15. Pitfall II springs to mind. Edit: I see that's already been addressed. Nevermind!
  16. I was going through my Atari odds and ends, and ran across a multicart that had "ZG Supercart" printed on the board. It has about 120 or so titles on it, mostly Atari-published. It does not appear to be programmable (at least not without swapping out a chip or two). I probably bought it in 2004-2005. Nothing turned up searching here, Google, and eBay. Can anyone share info on what this is exactly?

  18. Allright... I neglected to mention I had removed the installed EIDE'99 interface. Reinstalling that seems to have fixed the problem. Or the keyboard ribbon is just very particular and I managed to put it in right this time.
  19. So I purchased an A1200 on eBay. It arrived and apparently the hard drive and keyboard came loose during shipping - something I didn't discover until I tried to boot it up for the first time. I took it apart, reattached everything, and it seems to be working fine, with the exception of the keyboard. All the keys work except for the QWERTY row. I have reseated the keyboard ribbon a few times, with no luck. I have an A600 and I tried that keyboard on the A1200. The keys are not mapped to the right characters, and the QWERTY keys are still missing in action. At this point I'm assuming it's something on the motherboard itself, rather than a faulty keyboard. Any ideas how I can go about fixing it? Thanks!
  20. I recently went on an Amiga binge, having never owned one before but desperately lusted after them when they were new. First I bought a 2000 off eBay which I quickly returned (too loud/big); currently have a stock A600HD and a loaded-for-bear A1200: 030/64MB, 10GB HDD with WHDLoad installed, the seller had even hacked an IDE port into the case for an external DVD-ROM. Ugly, and I probably will never use it, but it's there. I imagine I'll recycle the A600 back into the eBay pool soon if the A1200 holds up. The A1200 prices are insane at the moment... a guy is currently selling new-ish A1200's on eBay at $1K a pop. I paid $650 for mine, which is still more than I anticipated when I first got the itch, but at least it came with a lot of bells and whistles. There's still a surprising amount of mods I am considering for the A1200... swapping the HDD for CF, scan doubler (my poor 1084 is on its last legs), quieter power supply, USB mouse adapter, etc. An impressively expandable piece of kit.
  21. So did the Concerto end up making an appearance at PGRE?
