25 minutes ago, Curious Sofa said:Just a strange nit to pick, I am TOTALLY buying Virtua Racing on 6/27 (may have prepurchased it from the eShop already)...
But why are the tires grey instead of black? I really love the look otherwise, but it just seems odd to me in the video I've seen that they couldn't get a nice, dark, jet black colored tire like in the arcade etc. Feel free to roast me for being so petty, or for not seeing this right.
No, it looks off to me as well. An odd choice.

Yeah, I'd love to get the SD for my SG, but that's a real steep price for just the CD functionality.
-
Yep - I recall trying to get C64S to run on my 386SX. I'm sure it ran stupidly slow, but the mere fact that I could run C64 games on my PC was pretty amazing at the time.

Nice... I had mine recapped and installed a Furia a few months ago. Haven't done much else with it yet. One of these days I'll get a proper WHDLoad build on it.

I have both, but typically use the MiST over the MiSTer.
While the MiSTer is undoubtedly more powerful with more long term potential, it's also quite a bit more work to get up and running. The MiST is much more straightforward; complete out of the box. All you need to do is provide an SD card with the appropriate cores and images.

Question: does anyone get static electricity shocks from their MegaSg? Like, the majority of the time when youre putting in an SD card or touching the power button? I just had one that was so bad that it burnt out the blue LED inside the power button, and now I cant make it glow blue or white. :/
Yep. THough now I have it powered off the USB port on my TV, so when I shut off the TV the SG powers off as well - so I don't have to touch it.

Everything I've tried from Smokemonster's packs works fine.

For funsies, I signed up for another Playstation Now 7 day trial this morning. The last time I tried it was around 2015-2016, and since then my internet service was upgraded to 120Mbps down/10Mbps up. I also assume Sony has been making tweaks behind the scenes.
I put about an hour into it, playing a handful of games. Experienced significant, gameplay affecting stuttering and lag - not consistently, but often enough to be frustrating. And the picture quality, while not terrible, is still obviously softer and more compressed than playing locally (sitting 15 ft away from a 43" screen)
Granted, Sony != Google. They may have some magic up their sleeves to make this work better than Sony has been able to so far.

I was born in '72. My aunt gave me her old Radio Shack TV Pong not long after I got my 2600 for Christmas - within a year or so. That would've been '80 or '81. I recall playing it a bit, but it didn't make much of an impression compared to the Atari.
Of course, now I've put a Radio Shack TV Scoreboard on my eBay watch list... thanks

Interesting read, though I don't necessarily agree with it. Way too early to call it one way or the other.
Though I do wonder why some people seem so invested in pushing this as the inevitable future of gaming.

As this appears to be a service - versus an actual box you have to buy - I'll give it a whirl, just out of curiosity. Not expecting much, though. I have yet to see a WAN game streaming solution that wasn't riddled with lag and macroblocking.

Hm. I liked the slimmer full-size case they initially mocked up. If it just looks like another breadbin, I'm less interested.

I see comments like this on the MIST Facebook group:
Anyone is afraid that Mist / Mistica are dead cause Mister? 4 new cores and 1 new firmware in these 11 first days of 2019, i tell that they are more alive than never
:D

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I suppose you could always just buy both. I see the MIST as convenient because it is already put together, it has two DB9 ports, built in Midi Ports, and actually supports CRTs directly. MISTer seems like something between MIST and RetroPie to me - as far as what is required to get it up and running. I'll probably pick up a MISTer at some point, too.
Why:D
The MiSTer is a bit more on the hobbyist side of things compared to the MiST. I have a DE-10 board ready to go, but haven't been terribly motivated to get MiSTer up and running on it, because the MiST does a great job as it is, and is more plug-and-play friendly.
The thing that may sway me to the MiSTer (and its HDMI output) is that my VGA CRT seems to be dying.

if the Atari VCS platform sells for more than 1 million copies, we can't say that it is a bad product. that's it
Sure we can. Number of units sold has no bearing on quality.

The kiddos are getting a Switch and Smash Bros.
I asked for a Terasic DE-10 for MiSTer purposes, but we'll see if it actually happens.

My first peripheral was a 1541 disk drive for my C64. The first time I opened a computer to tinker with it was installing a serial card in my 386 so I could use a mouse (and therefore Windows 3.0)

If the discless model was available at a significant discount over the disc-having model, I'd probably go that route. Nearly everything I play now is download-only, whether that be Game Pass, Gold, or buying a steeply-discounted digital download. I can count the number of physical games I've purchased this generation on two hands.

Pretty much sums up every Retronauts to me. Something they're truly interested in? Metroidvanias? Japanese (Nintendo) development history? JRPGS? Game soundtracks and composers? They'll go all out and research to the nines, with multiple guests. When Retronauts is good, it's great.
But something the fans suggest (or sponsor)? They often bring somebody else on, all while taking time to remind you over and over how little they know about the subject because, you know, we didn't play wrestling games, or whatever. I guess they should be given credit (literally, they were, by patrons) for doing a show on something outside their interest and admitting it as such. But somehow their admitted ignorance comes off smarmy, like a rich guy not knowing how to change a spare tire and not being embarrassed by that. "Oh YOU know how to change a spare? I suppose you'd have to..."
This, exactly. I lost all patience for Jeremy Parish and Bob Mackie some time ago. They can wax poetic on every obscure original Gameboy title that only saw a release in Korea. But anything that falls outside of their Nintendo wheelhouse? Might as well not exist.
I resubbed this summer, and the first episode I listened to was on Indiana Jones. I spent at least 20 minutes waiting for them to actually start talking about, y'know, the games. Instead it was non-stop complaints about how a movie from 1980 set in the 1930s didn't share their modern, politically correct sensibilities. Oy.

I may be getting really picky here before knowing any more details, but since I like what I have heard so far....I really hope this thing isn't covered in crappy multi-cade art with a crappy multicade marquee. Or it that's what it comes with, that stuff can be easily replaced/not applied in the first place. I hate multicade art like that. Mappy and Ryu don't belong in the same side art.

Hear hear.

My hope for the next Analogue device is a dedicated 2600/7800 box (Stella AT?), with full cartridge/controller support. I have an NT Mini, but the lack of paddle support in the jailbreak FW grieves my soul.
(and 5200/8-bit support as long as I'm wishing out loud...)

Kevtris, thanks for all your hard work - paid and otherwise.
I was finally able to get on the site and place an order. Nice to see the shipping costs are more reasonable this time around.

I went to buy it last night, and the store says "currently not available." ???
... And now it's completely gone from the Xbox store.

Here’s why the Commodore SX-64 was a $1,000 FAILURE…& why GAMERS still want it

I had a fun YouTube copyright issue at my job. We use the Killer Tracks audio library for all of our background music. It's licensed, and while I have to file a dispute every. single. time. it gets flagged, eventually everything gets straightened out.
However, one time I got a notification that we had copyright notification from Chuck D (of Public Enemy fame). Which had my scratching my head, because our video editors would have no idea who Chuck D is, let alone use his music.
Turns out, *he* used one of the Killer Tracks... uh... tracks, rapped over it, published it, and now YouTube claims it's his work. Needless to say, our audio only had the background music, not his contribution. Regardless, Chuck D gets the ad revenue.
