My auctions; Vampire V2 Amiga 600 Accelerator, 2600 cart
Laner replied to Laner's topic in Auction Central
Bump for auctions ending tonight -
The B(lack)SOD is a real pain to diagnose. The PLA is the first thing you should check, but there's several potential sources besides that... Kernel, RAM, etc. 7800fan's link is a great place to start. For what it's worth, I've ruined a good chip (A SID, nonetheless) by putting it in a non-working 64, but I've never hurt a working 64 by using it to test potentially bad chips. I may have just been lucky - YMMV.

(I'm not an Amiga expert by a long shot) I have an NTSC A1200, never laid hands on a PAL Amiga, and realize things may be different with older models. However, between WHDLoad plus a monitor capable of handling a PAL video signal, I have encountered few - if any - programs that won't run due to it being an NTSC machine.

While I only have anecdotal evidence to point to, my rationale for the 5200's lack of success was due to the fact that "upgrading" to a new console was a foreign concept at the time. You didn't upgrade your board games or Star Wars toys. Why would you buy a slightly different version of an Atari when the current one works fine? I wanted a 5200 in the worst way, but I'm sure my folks considered the fact that I had just gotten a 2600 a couple of years earlier. They weren't going to drop another $200-250 on another Atari machine that really didn't do anything but provide a slightly better versions of the games I already had. And the 2600 library I already had would be useless without another costly peripheral on top of the base system price. Additionally, it got caught at the leading edge of the home computer blitz. "Santa" might not have seen the value in yet another video game console, but an honest-to-goodness computer? That's a whole other kettle of fish.

I have quite a few auctions in progress, and more to come, so I'll try to keep them consolidated here. I'll post pics below. Ending April 30: eBay Auction -- Item Number: 252815452032 - Vampire V600 V2 FPGA Accelerator for Amiga A600 No end date: eBay Auction -- Item Number: 252833058106 - Road Runner 2600; loose cart

I'll double check it - thanks. Edit: I checked the weight/box size I entered for the listing, and they're correct. Now, eBay's shipping calculator might be off - wouldn't be the first time that's happened. I'm going to grab one of those flat rate boxes from the post office today and see if they'll fit in there.

I dropped way too much on an Analogue NT Mini. As a result, I now need to free up some funds - and the Harmony Concerto has become somewhat redundant in the process. I have not put a lot of time in testing it (nor have I installed a POKEY), but my Concerto seemed to work fine with my two unmodded 7800s and all of the goodroms images I tried it with. All that to say, if anyone is interested in purchasing it, please PM me. I'll sell it for what I paid for it - $129.99 plus shipping.

I have a datassette drive (the older style that matches the early Vic-20), which powers on and the motor seems to work. It appears to save successfully, but when loading, it just searches indefinitely. I have a couple of prerecorded cassettes as well which it doesn't recognize anyway. Any suggestions on how to get this to work? I cleaned the heads with alcohol, but it made no difference.

Gamebase 64 has 25,000 disk/tape/cart images alone. Of course, only a fraction are worth playing, but that's just one platform.

Finally got mine yesterday and messed around with it some. Some thoughts: I had the worst time getting it to boot up at first, though after updating the firmware it's much better. The controller is OK as long as you don't need to go down But yeah, I can see how that's a problem. I'm going to see if I can source some original NES gamepads this weekend. There is a noise coming from the power supply, but I probably would never have noticed it had others not commented on it. Not a dealbreaker for me, but I may replace it regardless. I've only used component output so far on a 20" PVM and 27" Panasonic TV. Looks fantastic on both. Need to try HDMI tonight. I installed the latest jailbreak software and checked out the NES, 2600 and 7800 cores. I've never been a Nintendo fan myself, but I'm familiar enough with the NES that playing a couple of levels of SMB2 put a stupid grin on my face. So far I am very pleased with my purchase. You might try https://support.analogue.co/hc/en-us/community/topics- though it's not very active.

I found a very clean CoCo 3 locally as part of a lot. Works fine as far as I can tell, but what do I need to kit it out proper? From the brief amount of research I've done, there appears to be an SD/cart adapter of some sort (CoCo SDC), but I can't seem to find where to buy it. What about better video than composite? Any component/RGB/VGA mods? Anything else that are must-haves? I suppose my interest is primarily in games, but simply tinkering with them, seeing how far they can be upgraded is fun in and of itself.

The RGB cables from monoprice are RGBHV; however my monitor only has RGBS. I suppose I could go the SCART route if I needed to, but is there a way to make RGBHV work on my monitor without the need of a converter box of some sort?

Anyone have one of these available? TIA!

Emulation was my gateway into the hobby... starting with C64S in the early 90s, followed with MAME, Stella, etc. The idea behind RetroPie is nothing new, it's just a more convenient package than has been available in the past. There will always be people like most the folks here who prefer the original hardware, and even more who don't care quite so much about a 100% authentic experience. The more options available, the better, IMO.

Why hasn't Apple dived into the console business?
Laner replied to Rick Dangerous's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Given Apple's recent history, it would be underpowered, unexpandable and overpriced, all in service for making it as thin as humanly possible. Not exactly the qualities I would want in a modern console. (Typed on a late 2011 MBP, which I will take to my grave ) -
Should I sell my Hi-Def NES and NESRGB for Analog Nt Mini?
Laner replied to sofakng's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I'd never pay $450 just for a gussied-up NES. However, once you factor in the dozen or so additional cores Kevtris has released (plus more on the way), it becomes a much more compelling proposition. -
Excellent... I just placed an order.

How much is the most money you have spent on a single game?
Laner replied to Shawn's topic in Poll Forum
I spent $120 or so on the Starcraft 2 collector's edition (or whatever it was called) with the intent of flipping it. I sold it, shipped it, and it got lost in the mail :/ I'm sure someone, somewhere enjoyed their free game. -
I got the Skyrim remaster and Persona 4 Golden from my mom, and a 20" Sony PVM from the wife. Though it was more like "Hey, I'm gonna buy this monitor on eBay - it can be my Christmas present"

I received my shipping notification an hour after I posted...

Has anyone who ordered the NT Mini on Friday *not* received a shipment notification yet? I'm still waiting on mine...

What are some decent C64 classic arcade conversions?
Laner replied to Austin's topic in Commodore 8-bit Computers
Avoid Paperboy It's pretty terrible as far as arcade conversions go (though I'll play it from time to time purely for nostalgic reasons) -
I was on my local geek community Facebook group last week and someone posted a pic of their new watch; as a point of comparison, they set it on top of a CoCo3 and a Vic-20. I commented that I hadn't seen a CoCo3 in many many years. A few PMs and $100 later, I am in the possession of the following: The Vic is missing the 2 key (but I already have a Vic-20 that works fine). The CoCo 3 works great. Both are very clean, and lots of extras/documentation, which I always love. I happily left cassettes behind as a storage medium in 1985, but I'm a little excited to check these out and see what's on the half-dozen tapes that came with the rest of the stuff. The one head-scratcher was a power supply that terminated in two alligator clips, like a tiny car battery charger. I *think* it's meant for the Radio Shack tape deck, but I don't think I'll risk it. Now to figure out how to get the CoCo to display something better than composite...
