The Atari Flashback 3 Petition
Atari-Jess replied to gamer1682's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
I'm only saying I'd buy one here because I would. I suppose the only reason this petition is having any effect is because Vendel himself is directing the posts to whomever. As a result, this isn't just being sent to the company, its being sent to vendel, who brings it to the company. While I still think online petitions are bad, I will admit that this isn't quite the same. -
NES FC Yobo Game Console Question
Atari-Jess replied to thegamezmaster's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Well, if I had read your other post more thoroughly I would have seen that you believe that NOA "ripped off" NOJ. That still makes no sense. The NES wasn't "cheaply made" by Mattel, even the original famicom consoles were NOTORIOUS for their cheap quality and were recalled by Nintendo of Japan. Nintendo of America simply made an odd choice in their selection of a cartridge port. Other than this, the NES console is of good manufacturing quality. -
NES FC Yobo Game Console Question
Atari-Jess replied to thegamezmaster's topic in Classic Console Discussion
That makes NO sense what-so-ever Nintendo cannot "knock-off" their own design. There are only 3 designs, Famicom, NES, NES/Famicom 2. Those are the official ones. Something makes me wonder if you're just acting anti-japanese, which is not acceptable. You've already made a comment on how fantastic the Yobo console was simply because it was Chinese manufactured, and I know that the Chinese do not look favourably on the Japanese so I think I have a valid cause for potential concern. Of course, you may simply have made some sort of mistake, but that stands to be seen, what do you have to say for your comments? -
The Atari Flashback 3 Petition
Atari-Jess replied to gamer1682's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
online petitions are lame, sure I like things, but online petitions are lame. A company isn't going to release a product just because one website and say at best 1000 "signatures" claim they want a product. They are taking a look at their current financial situation, taking into account the sales of the FB2, and a petition, as good hearted as one may be isn't going to do much to influence it. If you want the product, I believe writing a letter, WRITING with a signature, and mailing it off to their headquarters would have more impact than any corny online petition. And that goes for everything -
actually they ARE in 320x200 pixels, I just resized the images to 640x400 , thats why the pixels are oversized.

The heal-spell subsystem was originally designed to work most of the time but to heal dependant on your spell level, I'm changing this heal you entirely, but the frequency of success will be the same as other spells if not worse. the death rooms are strictly generic trap rooms, would it really be any different if it said your HP was zero? The room description says you are dead, and that will supercede anything else, which is enforced due to the fact you can't actually do anything but "quit" to restart the game. However, your argument simply seems to be that it seems sloppy, so zero-hitpoints-to-be-displayed it is. I don't mean dungeon levels, I mean experience levels, The game is somewhat of an s curve in difficulty... It shouldn't matter what people use warnings for, a warning is a warning! I've now completed 50% of the total dungeon, but I won't release until its completion. Further suggestions from anyone are still more than welcome -
Haha, thanks for the advice!

ZylonBane can rant against CGA all he wants, but no one can tell me I'm not making it look *good* (All photos are either mine or rights to use were given to me, incase anyone is curious)

what a delightful and informative explanation. I forgot the whole deal over bankswitching (why I don't know) There are just so many great 64k+ cart games for the 8bits. I'm just glad I'm able to enjoy the 8/16k games thanks to the pill.

your flag there seems to turn into some sort of fascist organisation... you know... "electronic arts", I am offended.

why is it when I see that "gaping hole" cardboard display all I can think of is it being an "anti-goatse" campaign?

Nintendo will sell the Wii for a profit, so if it means it'll cost $201 to make, Nintendo won't sell it for $199. I have no idea what it'll cost, but if Nintendo kept that price at $199 it would be an interesting point of boasting. "those other guys just had to increase the cost of games and consoles, not nintendo!... blah blah blah... the Nintendo wii for only $199!"

Yars Revenge, Hero, Beamrider, Solaris, Secret Quest, Dark Chambers not in any particular order.

What limits the pill to 16k? The software? The hardware? I suppose it might just be easier to buy a memory cart!

Old style action adventure rpg
Atari-Jess replied to Atari-Jess's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I'll work on the potions system... You don't have to fight monsters when you see them, you can actually... walk away from them... That is the trade off for not being able to run after you start fighting. I appreciate your thoughts on the difficulty of the game, any thing in particular that is too hard? level progression, monsters, just the initial level or two? The undefined rooms were supposed to be blocked off, oops, they'll have descriptions and images in the full version of course. As far as the acid room it WARNS you, it almost BEGS you not to go -

(edit:oops I was thinking about a composite mode) I've had hard enough trouble with 320x200 (using only 100px of that height for the images) -

We're going to have to agree to disagree, EGA means nothing to me and its too "complex" to make it anything other than 16 colour gifs, that defeats the purpose of the minimalist feel. -

lmao, yes, they were ugly. I'm doing my best to make art out of CGA, if you saw some of the backdrops that haven't been revealed yet, you'd be amazed. I get warm fuzzy feelings with CGA graphics (all my computer games were CGA) I think the Spectrum was a pretty ugly computer but I bet if I were to make a game in that style, I could do a pretty good job and making it acceptable. (although just barely!) -

That book was one of a handful of inspirations I had in making this game! (you'll see it even more when I release more of the map) Ultima, Dungeons & Dragons, Wizards & Warriors, Zork, Rogue, Fighting Fantasy, Legend of Zelda, and all those BASIC games I used to make (the title comes from an 8 year old Atari-Jess) The next release will feature: * arrow-key directions (left = west, north = up, etc) * 4 Quests (instead of just the one thats there already) * Stores, buy and sell crystals/potions * Save/Load features * And lets not forget a definite end to the maze! Possible features: * music (although it MUST stay true to the era, PC Speaker single channel, monp quality sound ) * auto-map, I *really* don't want to put one in, although it would be very easy to do so...
