Hello Mr. Jimbo and welcome to the forum. Just FYI - auction related topics typically go in the Marketplace > Auction forum. It's no big deal, but someone might say something, or the moderator might move it. This particular auctions has actually been dicussed before. Obviously everyone is interested in the boxed Chase the Chuckwagon.

CGE Releases and AA T-Shirts Available for Purchase
shadowdoggie replied to Albert's topic in Atari 2600
Albert, were you able to show your copy of Skull Island at CGE? I know it's not ready to sell yet, but I wanted to give it some love because I know yuppicide is still trying to get funding for it. If you don't feel this belongs in this thread, feel free to delete my post. By the way, what is going to happen with the CGE version of that cart? -
Lendorien, This is one of the coolest 'home projects' I've seen. I hope you continue to explore this idea and eventually create something that can be sold. Good luck.

How long should we expect our 2600 games to last? It's been, in some cases, 30+ years. Should we expect them to last another 30? If not, I suppose this means we'll end up with a huge collection of non-working cases. I'd suspect many of us will have to buy hardware that will allow us to recreate the ROM and replace our non-working boards. They need to start making homebrews with locking switches and hindges so that the boards are easier to access oh, yes... I almost forgot. Does anyone know anything about the Channel 4 only systems. Tks.

Halo for the 2600 Released at CGE! Download the game here!
shadowdoggie replied to Albert's topic in Atari 2600
Yeah, the fat guy on the right with triple lasers is the boss. You'll know you're on the right screen if Master Chief is half the normal size. -
Halo for the 2600 Released at CGE! Download the game here!
shadowdoggie replied to Albert's topic in Atari 2600
The game is very entertaining. Well done! Nothing at all needs to change, but here are a few comments: Since the enemies can shoot in all directions and their bullets travel through objects, unlike Master Chief's, you'll soon learn that running is often your best option. In some places I can run through a number of rooms very quickly without having to fight anyone. I wonder if putting up a few additional walls in the room would make the first level a bit more challenging; not that it isn't challenging already, but getting to the boss after only a few attempt leads me to believe the path to the boss isn't as difficult as it should be. Although the game is supposed to increase in difficulty as you progress, I find that the larger enemies (not including the boss) are much easier to deal with than the smaller enemies. Maybe they belong at the beginning of the level and the smaller harder to hit enemies at the end. I would love to find the magic level, but if that means I have to get through the second level with my character going half speed, I doubt I'll ever find magic. I really like how the difficulty of level two increases in certain ways, such as, the walls can now kill you, but playing at half speed seemed counterintuitive. Typically, as a game goes on, the speed at which you play increases. This felt like my character was dragging around an anchor and I abandoned the game. There were only two 'bug-like' items I found, which probably have very reasonable technical explanations. When a room has a bottom wall and your character touches the bottom wall, you'll notice a line that appears near the left hand side of the wall. Also, when you fire just as you're entering a room the bullet starts out behind you, goes through your body and then towards the enemy. Neither is a big deal at all and could be considered part of the charm of the game. Oh, and one time the enemy's bullet traveled through the right side and reentered on the left. The key metaphor didn't work for me at first, simply because you would normally take a key to a door to unlock it, but you don't carry this key around and you don't see it as part of your inventory. I actually found the first door before the key, and thought the flickering wall was a bug. I didn't realize it was a door until after I found the key and returned to find the wall no longer there. I really like the game 'as-is', but just wanted to provide some feedback, much of which is very subjective. Again, great job!!! -
Halo for the 2600 Released at CGE! Download the game here!
shadowdoggie replied to Albert's topic in Atari 2600
That was a very well written story. Thanks for sharing. I don't normally purchase homebrews, but I'm starting to warm up to the idea, and Halo would be near the top of the list (if made available). Looking forward to playing this on the emulator today. -
Dino, is the rarity guide wrong then? It has then listed as NTSC.

Now that's a problem I wouldn't mind having. There are a few carts I have a strong affinity for that I'd consider keeping multiple copies of, and any T-Handle (including the Brazilian Tron labels) would be included in that list. You're looking at a guy that spent $60 on a label-less version of Vulture Attack though. If I do any type of hoarding it's of the original (01, 02, 03...) numbered games. I've heard other collectors say they like these too, not that their worth any more. Recently, I had in my possession another Chuckwagon and was faced with the same dilemma. I factored in the difficulty of acquiring another copy of the game and decided to sell. Vulture Attacks don't come up on ebay all that often. Tough call, but I'd have a hard time letting go of that particular game. Good luck with that decision.

Thanks Thag. I appreciate your comments and couldn't agree more with everything you said. I can understand some collectors' frustrations, but in my opinion the worst thing I could do is start hoarding multiple copies of rare items.

Cool, no big deal. I've done it. In fact, this thread is a bit of a mistake on my part. I shouldn't have included anything about the Craig's list score since my intention was to find out info about the channel 4 systems, and it got derailed because of it. @Kevin - I'm envious. I actually found the detached end label for this Crazy Climber before the actual cart. There were about 8 games with missing end labels and I was like "Please be here, please be here." But honestly my excitement was tempered by the fact that I already had the game. I haven't experienced what just happened to you in the wild yet. If, like you, I hadn't had the game already I'm sure there would have been a little fist pumping A glue stick resolved the end label issue here too.
-
Nice pickup Kevin! Did you already have a copy of the game or is this your first?

Sears Tele-games does not read games.
shadowdoggie replied to RockinRollMcDonalds's topic in Atari 2600
Try putting your TV on Channel 4 instead of 3. I just came across a Sears 6 switch that was built to only work on Channel 4. Also, try putting the cart in just a little bit - don't slide it all the way down. I had a system that would never play games if you slid them in the whole way, but worked fine if they were barely pushed in. -
Another vote for glue stick. Works great for me.

This is such an odd reaction to me reporting on a cool little score I found on Craig's list. I'm in a position where I feel like I have to defend myself. Really disappointing... I was just sharing a cool find and then trying to get a question answered about the channel 4 systems from the community, which it appears is not going to happen. Ok, here it goes... I have a near mint version of Crazy Climber in my collection already, so this is now an extra. I want to put it on ebay to make it available to another collector. Yes, I will make money off of this, but if I wasn't a collector I wouldn't have been looking for and then purchased the Craig's list item. Out of the 150 games, I kept at least 20. Either I didn't have the game, the particular label, or I replaced my version with a better label. I'd wager that the majority of collectors with larger collections all purchased big lots and sold back what they didn't need. That's all I'm doing for crap sake. You know what? I'm not even interested in this topic anymore. Let's let this one die off.

I'm not sure if that's rhetorical or not, but I'll answer it. The truth is, I'm not concerned where the cart ends up. This cause you mention is not one that I'm fighting or interested in, but the truth is this cart came from the east coast anyway. Do you sell often on ebay? This is why I ask.... Here is every semi-rare item I sold from June 1st until now, everything else was a common system with common games. I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I am not seeing what you're reporting. I just sold a Chase the Chuckwagon on ebay to someone in Geneva, Ohio. My latest Heavy Sixer sold to someone in Paducah, KY. My Death Trap sold to someone in Ashville, AL. My Rubik's Cube sold to someone in Montreal WI. My last Crazy Climber sold to someone in Blaine, MN. My (2) Heavy Sixers sold to someone in Fort Walton Beach, FL. My Heavy Sixer before that sold to someone in Arlington, WA. That's a pretty mixed bag. I don't ship internationally (on ebay) if that matters to you, and I do use the marketplace forum quite often. Do you need this game or are you just making a point? Send me a PM if you are, I've got no problem with that. Thing is, I like to deal with people here because we usually help each other out and don't sell things for as much as we could get on ebay (typically), but sometimes I need to make more money so that I can continue collecting, and that's why I go to ebay. Anyone know anything about these channel four systems? Another thing I learned tonight was that the Sears light sixers came in two different types of boxes, the dark brown box and the yellow box. Common knowledge I'm sure. I believe the brown box systems are considered Rev. 1. The yellow box system is from Sunnyvale and the brown system is from Taiwan. This may not be true for all systems in these boxes.

I'll give this one pathetic bump just in case someone knows something about these channel 4 units.

Tonight I picked up a Craig's list item - a 7800 with 150 games (147 2600 games - 3 7800 games) I was able to snag for $70. I was surprised they accepted my offer, but I got a confirmation on Monday so I stopped by this evening to pick it all up. The Craig's list ad had one pic from very far away so I had no idea what games were included. I purposely didn't look at any of the games until I got home. The first box of 75 games had a few semi-rare games like Harbor Attack, Racquetball, and a rare 1986 Raiders Lost Ark(red) end label. The real prize was in the next batch. Crazy Climber! Sweet, I'd just made my money back on one cart (close to it at least). It's probably the best score I've found in the wild, although it'll go straight to ebay. An auction I'd won about 3 weeks ago finally arrived tonight too. It's a boxed Sears 6 switch system with about 35 games (17 boxed) I'd won for about $22. Inside the system box was a note that read: THIS VIDEO GAME HAS BEEN MODIFIED TO OPERATE ON CHANNEL FOUR. PLEASE CHANGE YOUR OWNER'S MANUAL TO READ CHANNEL FOUR WHEREVER CHANNEL THREE IS MENTIONED. The system has an opening for a the channel switch, but there is no switch inside. I indeed had to change the TV to channel 4 to play. This is the first time I've seen this. Were most of the Sears light sixers like this?

I just sold one with six games for $75 on ebay, so you might be able to buy the set, keep Frogger and then sell the remaining 5 plus supercharger back on ebay and get your money back.
