  1. Step By Step here - http://www.recalbox.com/diyrecalbox sTeVE
  2. I use both - but prefer RecalBox... Retropie is more flexible, has more things you can twiddle and supports more systems - RecalBox is very stable, it's simpler (less systems and less config options) approach makes it just more robust and it has much better support for the BT 8bitDo controllers (which I use). I swapped between the two for a while, but have now settled on RecalBox (latest WIP beta) and it runs 24/7 without a hitch. sTeVE
  3. Not exactly useful or really in answer to the original post - but kinda useful for non Windows users... I use OSX and use Automator to pair a file and application to create executable apps for emulator software - works with both Atari800MacX or Altirra running under Wine - so I have native OSX apps for my favourite A8 games which run directly from launcher, Steam or finder sTeVE
  4. Both ST and Amiga as soon as they were available - Amiga 1000 and 520 ST - before UK release from friends in Slough & Maidenhead... sTeVE
  5. The title screen we had for the demo - was a rather lovely confection by a talent chap called Robert Swan - it was scrolling and was two screens tall, in mode 7...
  6. I assume you mean Barbarian I have looked for the discs a few times over the years - but not found them so far - that does not mean I don't have them, just not unearthed yet. My loft is a an elephants graveyard of development hardware from mid 80's to latest modern systems - dozens of boxes of hardware and software, some not opened for decades - just shipped around the world with me! One day it will all get sorted, just not yet.... sTeVE
  7. BTW - I was referring to the short Miner 2049'er and BBSB reviews - not the exhaustive family of new games reviews - when I said "short and lack real analysis"... sTeVE
  8. I second OpenEmu - supports 2600/5200/7800 plus a bazillion non-Atari systems too - and is just great!!! sTeVE
  9. Got my copy of issue one - it's great, lots of material, well written and laid out. The reviews are a bit short and lack real analysis - so that would be an area to develop (if you want any writing support PM me!) But that is more than made up for with the more in-depth articles about each game and other software. A REALLY great magazine, can't wait for issue 2! sTeVE
  10. Lost Dragon - let me reiterate I know NOTHING about A8 Last Ninja - I signed an agreement for LAST NINJA 2 - whatever John is referring to was before my involvement in the franchise... To be honest by the time we had the agreements in place there was no US A8 market, a small and dwindling UK one, but a pretty big one in Poland and other Eastern European countries - that's where we were aiming... And then when we did release software the piracy level was appalling, everyone I spoke to had a copy of Plastron, but no one had bought it though :-( sTeVE
  11. Black Lamp was superbly detailed on the ST, the C64 pulled of a very nice version, with superb music and the A8 hosts a very respectable version as well, but despite the high resolution visuals, the ZX Spectrum version always seemed rather lifeless to myself in comparison, so I guess much would be lost in conversion to the 2600?. - it was very simple, simple floating color platforms over a black background, several enemy sprites, lots of flicker - but it did have dragons! UFO I assume is the game by Froggo? - no based on the Gerry Anderson TV show Never tried Pysgnosis Barbarian on ZX Spectrum or the C64, but don't recall the C64 version getting much praise at review. - I have/had a demo of the A8 version I commissioned from Russell Knight, I did not pursue it beyond the demo stage. Menace on C64 seemed to get mixed reviews, nice music though. - take a look on Atarimania at the demo of our version, not final - later ones were better (long lost) - but great use of char mode sprites... C64 Ghost and Goblins was superb, but the C16 version dire, ditto C16 Paperboy, C64 Paperboy disappointing as was. - we only got the first road and bike running, used all the PMG on the bike/rider and even then it looked a bit shonky tbh... A8 Last Ninja under System 3 advertised, never delivered, John Twiddy I think assumed because System 3 struggled to find coders for conversion? - I know nothing of this, I licensed the LAST NINJA 2, all done through Roger Large at System 3... So, in terms of A8 versions, I always wondered just how much Ram they'd need? Min 64K? - yup all our work was in 64K, single load And just what compromises would if been made to get around hardware PMG limits. - with software sprites in char mode and some good multiplexing tricks (Xanthien for instance) - it was not too bad, even allowed a bit of flicker so most things were not hard to do... TRAP was done by Russell Knight too - he gave me a copy as part of his pitch to do some games for Harlequin... sTeVE
  12. I actually enjoy RG nowadays - buy it every month - I find it easy to get over the factual errors, omissions etc and see it for what it is, a magazine about old games rather than a precise history... sTeVE
  13. That little Zelda demo is frikking awesome - some careful colour choice and some PMG spot effects (skin for example) and it would be superb - the style is lovely and the gameplay "could" be brilliant!! The GB library is choice full of games that were beautiful examples of minimalist art and great gameplay! Inspired! sTeVE
  14. I reckon I should trot out my usual lists since I seem to have some information few others have... Atari UK had a number of titles that never saw the light of day, including two of mine (Contagion and Z-Force) that never got out... The titles I saw there were: Winter Games XE UFO XE + 7800 Black Lamp 2600 I also failed to deliver a number of titles I had the rights to (all for XL/XE) all were in some stage of development before I canned them all: Paperboy Menace Shadow of the Beast Last Ninja 2 Project Xanthien Ghosts and Goblins Pacland Psyngosis Barbarian Somewhere in the attic I also have an unfinished copy of Aligata's T.R.A.P. sTeVE
  15. There was a massive scene in Bedfordshire - I left Marston Morteyne in 1985 to go to University, but went to school at Bedford Modern. From when I got my 800 in '81 to the time I left there was a huge group of 8bit fans, used to meet up at the weekly Computer Club in Stacey Bushes in Milton Keynes - got my first 810 chipped with a knock off archiver chip there!! sTeVE
  16. Just brilliant - great work! sTeVE
  17. Quick update on the problem I was having: "BUT I am having enormous trouble with the Hatari Core - RetroArch says the TOS image I am using is good, but what ever I try and load gives me a weird "Cannot load J'\\tos.im" on screen error which means NOTHING to me sadly." Totally solved - now ST emulation runs beautifully - RetroArch's Hatari Core supports less disk image formats (ST/MSA) but is much nicer to use... sTeVE
  18. I notice on the title screen "Copyright 2016" Can you copyright something that is an unlicensed copy of someone else's work? Perhaps you have permission and I am ill informed? sTeVE P.S. Screen shots look cool...
  19. The latest 7.4 is GREAT, the ALT version on 5200 is super too!!! sTeVE
  20. Love the Mario colors in 7.2 (alt) versions - but on both PAL and NTSC systems I have the play field colours are odd - the blues are not blue, but very green... But on the non alt versions the play field is great - so I vote PF colours from regular 7.2 and Mario colours from alt version! sTeVE
  21. The 5200 V7 seems to be the standard 5200 version?? sTeVE
  22. That is ruddy lovely - the extra sparkles version is really nice on the FIREFOXES - see I can get it right! I now see why the yellow was disabled in the middle of the screen - the XOR sprites create extra color artefacts with the yellow active! sTeVE
