  1. No Atari brand monitor supported Composite Video input - only RGB - so none of them work with the 8bit line.... Get a sepertae chroma/luma video cable and an S-video convertor - plug it into a good new TV and you'll have the best picture possible.. I run my 130XE that way onto a Sony Wega - better picture than any monitor I ever had back in the day sTeVE
  2. Dan, I don't want to escalate any "argument", I have no hard figures to point to, but Nintendo sold the SNES & N64 at a loss until sales of maufacturing etc made the hardware cheaper to produce... If the GC is not being sold slightly undercost I would be AMAZED - certainly at launch it cost more than $199 to actually make... sTeVE
  3. Clint, I would recommend: Pikmin (awesome game!) Super Monkey Ball (the multiplayer games are fab!) Wave Race Blue Storm (you've never experinced a game set on REAL water before - the physics are incredible) Lugi's Mansion (simple, but fun) However I would not recommend Max Payne on PS2 - really ugly and the controls don't to the game justice at all... sTeVE
  4. They're all the same price where I live - in fact I just bought the Xbox version of the new Spiderman game - went to Best Buy - all versions $49 & I have all three machines, so I demo'd them all and went for the one with the better graphics sTeVE
  5. If I were you I would just check out the screenshots and download the ones that look nice sTeVE
  6. Is that "stick it" anymore than SONY or Nintendo games at 45 quid? All I can say is that the C64 is better than the Spectrum!!! sTeVE
  7. Microsoft's pricing policy is pretty much in line with all currentt console companies - both Sony and Nintendo sell consoles at a loss - its been an established practice for YEARS... They make money of the games, not the hardware, every game produced and sold on a Sony/Nintendo/MS console pays them manufacturing (which they turn a profit on) and a hefty licence fee per unit too sTeVE
  8. John, UFO - Atari UK had that (as well as other games - I'm desperatley trying to remember the others) under development for the 7800. It was a licence based upon the cult TV series by Gerry Anderson starring Ed Bishop... I'd be very intrested to see if it surfaces, as well as the other UK 2600 games I saw frequently at Atari UK's ofices... sTeVE
  9. I wonder, is UFO is on that list - I know it exists... sTeVE
  10. Liveinabin... I've played PS2 Burnout - I cannot tell you naything about the GC version, but on PS2 it was a rental, I'd say don't buy it - its not very much fun IMHO - sorry sTeVE
  11. In the spirit of Tempest 2000 I say do a cool modern version I'd suggest a modern titlepage, with whizzy fx all over it sTeVE
  12. Heaven, I thought about horizontayl stretching the mockup images - but really just wanted the pixel counts to be real - those images are 160X192 - it would just look fatter on the XL I applied a simple color reduction method, so both screens were reduced in the same way - I kept the color mapping the same for each sprite (light/dark/color)... If ya want any more input or grafix doing let me know - I'm more than happy to lend a hand (but I know you are MORE than able to do it all yourself) - I'm just keen to see the BEST grafix possible I think the only overlays of PMG should be one on the player ship (the blue) and the color of the main part of the big enemy craft (the green on the blimp and transport aircraft - it would also work on the parachutists too) since there are not many on screen of these vehicles... I seem to remeber (I haven't booted up MAME or an MSX emu yet) that in each wave there is only the clouds/rocks, one type of enemy craft, explosions, one BIG aircraft type and parachutist (both of which don't rotate ever) - so the number of "sprites" per level is pretty small... sTeVE [ 04-17-2002: Message edited by: Jet Boot Jack ]
  13. I'd use the regular Atari/5200 font for the cart name rather than Times Roman... sTeVE
  14. Heaven, I mailed you some mockup screens - using correct color depth and sprites etc. I tried and failed to be able to post 'em here Let me know what u think... sTeVE
  15. Excellent - I've not played a really good home version of Timepilot - the MSX one had AWFUL scrolling!!! Gunstar - Timepilot did not look like the RAW graphics dump on TQA - whilst the sprites/bitmaps may have been 4 color (each item) the palettes for the game were nothing like CGA I hope TQA gets his palette sorted too - it looks inverse to me - white shadows and green highlights
  16. PAL/NTSC - no such distinction on handhelds - except....... Nomad - UK carts are designed for 50fps US/Japanese for 60fps - 'cos they are normal Genesis/Megadrive - therfore they don't all play properly on that system (I have a modified machine to run 50/60hz) ... Some games do have regional lockout on them - there are a couple of US/Japanese GBC games that don't work on UK GB units... sTeVE
  17. Hedgehog - what comapny are you talking about?? I no of noone manufacturing 2600 systems right now for any market in the world... sTeVE
  18. Tempest - sorry to say that no I was not part of the team who put the Horde together - my tenure at CD only began this year..... sTeVE
  19. I've played this demo again and again - I can't belive how great it is!!! Nukey - what is the full command set for the Atari800Win Monitor - I have Version 3 - but the help files do not list the monitor commands... Tempest - I have a 130XE with a bad video output (I just got it outta storage) - but a MINT keyboard - if you mail me your snail mail address I'll send the keyboard to you - otherwise the whole unit will get thrown in the trash at the weekend... sTeVE
  20. AWESOME Sheddy - I am TOTALLY blown away by your demo - I cannot wait to see more of the game. I'm so happy to see some REAL 8bit development. What GR mode are you using (Antic A?)... sTeVE
  21. Well I have 2 PS2 (PAL and and NTSC) - both work just dandy from the get go - either horizontally or vertically... I have used debug stations from day one - and these have been pretty reliable too -given they run 24/7 I've not seen any problems with machines except where they get a good knock - then the DVD mech (which is much more precise/sensitive than a CD one) can get outta alignment. Machines that have taken a tumble OFTEN only work in one plane... sTeVE
  22. TJ&E was in dev for DC - and it was this version as far as I can tell I guess SEGA decided to kill DC B4 finishing the game - and so rather than waste all the dev esffort and costs they moved platforms - seems smart to me Kinda seems more suited to GC rather than XB tho' - more quirky... Ubersaurus - what drivel "I'd much prefer the classic TJ&E anyhows" - how do you know -u played this new game??? It MAY be amazing (notice I said maybe not is or will be) - I for one hope SEGA make a great game and on whatever platforms - so they can keep on making great games!!!!! I know its a pain - but to play SEGA u gotta have 3 consoles now I LOVE JSRF on Xbox, VF4 is AWESOME on PS2 and Super Monkey Ball is FAB on GC... Remember its software that matters not hardware!! sTeVE
  23. My point about the DC being less powerful than the PS2 is based soley on having to work on the systems everyday I'm not waving any fan flag for either, I love many systems perdonally, but would only consider a few really worthy simply because I make a living outta producing games for these things... The DC is underpowered compared to the PS2 - half the RAM, slow GDROM compared to DVD media, a 3D system that while easier to code for than the PS2 the DC is simply less capable of raw polygon generation. The dev tools for DC are weaker than PS2, the microcode libraries were very poor. The system's overall procressing power and data handling was of an order lower than the PS2... sTeVE P.S. Hedgehog - The Playstation not the Dreamcast ushered in the generational leap in consoles...
  24. Soul Caliber is the BEST!! But after that I like: Shenmue 1&2 Sonic Adv 1&2 Crazy Taxi 1&2 Daytona 2001 sTeVE
