I believe you are right, but then again, I know that Atari made a few Pentium-based computers...I believe the fastest was a Pentium 166mhz and that's what Jeff Minter used in the mid-90's while he worked at Atari. The Falcon was released in the early 90's and was based around a Motorola PowerPC 68030 chip, hence the 030 monniker. It ran the TOS OS and was essentially a more powerful Atari ST variant. I believe there's some info on the Falcon over at The Atari Times...I think they were used to do some Jag game development back in the early days of the Jag. It is an interesting little computer and I absolutely love the grey controller casing.

Don't forget that the box to the standard Jaguar controller (the black box with the red Jaguar logo) states that the Jaguar control pad is compatible with the Jag and the Falcon 030. Did the grey Falcon pad come out before the Jaguar pad? It looks identical in every way.

I realize there's a multigame cart for the 5200 that has 100+ games including some prototypes all on one cart. The price isn't bad, but I'm wondering if this is an EEPROM-based cart? The thing that worries me is that eventually EEPROMs are subject to bit rot. Can anyone confirm if this multicart is an EEPROM cart? I can't seem to find any info anywhere to answer my question.

The game certainly is addictive and I must agree with you regarding the difficulty of the fifth stage. The reason why this game is so great (compared to other versions of Pac-Man on the 2600) is due to the speed and agility of Jr. Pac-Man. There's great joy in being able to fly through the mazes at a satisfying speed and thankfully the developers made Jr. super agile allowing you to change directions and tear through the complex maze designs almost instinctively! This is by far the best Pac-Man game on the 2600 with Ms. Pac-Man and the Hacked Better Pac-Man coming in a close second and third.

As disappointing as the game was for me back in 1982, there was still something about this simple one-screen game that kept me playing and playing it throughout the early 80's. Maybe it was just the fact that I finally had a version of Pac-Man all my own that I could play whenever I wanted without paying 25 cents per play. I agree. It was pretty bad and it almost seems like the developers WANTED the game to be different from the arcade version in every possible way, from the screwed up tunnels, to the startup song, to the point scoring system! Did Namco insist that Atari do this in much the same way that Coleco intentionally crippled its 2600 games? It's entirely possible!!

I want to trade my Jaguar Bundle for a 5200 console
Adrian M replied to Adrian M's topic in Atari 5200
I'll send you an email to work out the details. I will gladly take the trackball and if you decide to part with it. I'll include 2 extra games: brand new sealed copy of Hoverstrike and a mint (used) copy of Raiden complete with box and instructions! I have about 10 more games (all used, but in mint condition with all included items) if you're interested in adding any additional games to your collection. Let me know if you're interested: [email protected] -
I want to trade my Jaguar Bundle for a 5200 console
Adrian M replied to Adrian M's topic in Atari 5200
Awesome! In case you're wondering what's included, you can check the ebay ad I put up last month for all the details. The winning bidder turned out to be a non-paying deadbeat in case you're wondering. Check my feedback...72 positive comments (no negatives)...I can be trusted to follow through! My Jaguar Bundle! -
If anyone is interested, I am willing to trade my Jaguar bundle (see the marketplace listing for more details) which comes with the system, 2 new controllers, 2 games, and composite cable for a good condition 5200 console with working controllers. Anyone interested?

I know that Asteroids won't work on Jum52 (Mac version # 0.5.5.). It's a shame as I am really curious as to how this one turned out on the 5200!

I see. Sunsoft was a NES, Genesis and Saturn developer as well. I beleive Sunsoft brought Myst to the Sega Saturn. I wonder if they are still around?

Question: I noticed that the game Kangaroo is licensed from a company called Sun. By any chance, is this Sun Microsystems?
-
I heard that the game is buggy. Most users report lock-ups, freezes, crashes, after about 40 minutes of play or by triggering some events in the game.

Get Gravitar. I have the game and its one of my most favorite later-release Atari 2600 games.

Looks like the server move last night affected the date/time of all new posts. The current date is like 1/09/02 and the time is 1:00am. Please adjust when you get a chance!

Being a seasoned investor, for some company to charge $79 for an Atari stock certificate is absolutely ludicrous! No matter how historically significant, they are just paper documents!

Mario Bros, Joust and Armor Ambush are some of the best two player games on the 2600!

I like the 2600 version of Jr. Pac-Man because its a little easier and more forgiving than the insanely difficult arcade version. On the emulated MAME version, I can get to the second stage if I'm lucky (with 5 men). On the 2600 version, I can actually clear 5-7 stages easily.

How did you start collecting.
Adrian M replied to Atari Master's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I've been playing game systems since I was a 1st grade student in 1982. What recently peaked my interest in classic gaming again was my attending the Twin Galaxies Classic Games Tournament held at Funspot in Weirs Beach , NH in early June. In the middle of the tournament, they had an old 2600 hooked up with a Combat game tournament to win some Pong Poster signed by Nolan Bushnell. Seeing the Atari 2600 being played again looked fun and reminded me that I still have my old 2600 from 1982 and tons of games in my basement and thus prompted me to find and hook it up yet again and enjoy games of a different era once again. -
Let's make our own lynx, with us all it's possible!!!!!!!!!
Adrian M replied to cyberfox's topic in Atari Lynx
That's an interesting point to think about, Greg. My guess would be that the Lynx would probably have been due for an update in the mid to late 90's had Atari still been alive and the Lynx had been successful. I would have to say that the processor would be something 32-bit (VirtualBoy had a 32bit processor and that was released around this time frame), it would still use a cart format, the screen would definitely have been a higher resolution color LCD. I'm sure they would have sprung for a 4-6 button model for the Lynx's successor. It's interesting to think about what might have been... -
Are these things still being sold at retail stores? I've only seen one unit hanging near the action figure section (???) at a nearby Electronics Boutique and haven't seen one anywhere else since then. Why they keep it over in the action figure section is beyond me. This is a case where one could argue that emulated roms are far better. Why must companies that release potentially cool products like this feel they have to alter and change things?

You're absolutely right, Gloria Jeans is definitely a good choice when it comes to coffee, especially when shopping at a mall. The other cheapie brands you mentioned are good as well....Chock Full O'Nuts has a unique flavor that's good for a change of pace. As for Koffi, are you going to release a beta rom for anyone to test at any point in the future? And when it does make it out on cart form, what do you think it will cost?
-
Keep at it, I'm sure you'll figure it out. I for one, can't wait for your new game to come out! By the way, since one of your hobbies is "drinking coffee" I'm just curious as to what type of coffee you enjoy to brew at home? Myself, I like Starbucks House Blend fine-ground.

Bring a PC or laptop and run emulators. That's the easiest and most practical way to play classic games while at college.

In fact, I saw it on Saturday morning. It's sold in a package called "the 80's" or something like that. It definitely didn't sell for $35 though.
