Well, it's good to hear you were able to get your system up and running. Kaboom is a pretty common title, so you should have no problem picking up a replacement!

The Pong experience, what was it REALLY like?
Adrian M replied to candiru's topic in Dedicated Systems
I was only 3 or 4 when my parents bought a pong unit from Radio Shack. Mostly, it was for my dad and his friends to play. I didn't really see the point in hitting the bouncing ball in the pong-oriented games, though I did like using the pistol lightgun attachment. Basically, I didn't really have fond memories of the experience. It wasn't until I saw Pac-Man at a friend's house (on a VCS of all things!) that I first became enthralled with gaming. -
As do you. The 5200 works great as well.

I fail to see how 1 can be classified as easy. That is, unless you're playing it via emulation and have the luxury of saves and other cheats.

Arcade Classics we missed out on!
Adrian M replied to GrandviewCoin's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Some of the older Capcom titles like Psycho Soldier and Speed Rumbler WERE slated for release on the NES back in the early days but never saw the light of day. In fact, some issues of the pre-Nintendo Power "Nintendo Fun Club News" even had small ads from Capcom which showed black & white mock-up box art for these games. Also, who else remembers the first GOONIES game? It was playable in the US via the Playchoice 10 arcade machines. Sadly, we got the more complicated GOONIES 2 instead. Meh! -
I actually PREFER playing CC with the joystick over the trackball... Has to be a digital joystick though! I still can't get over the frustration I had trying to play the game with an analog controller on those Atari console collection discs.

What is Full Spectrum Warrior like?

It's similar to the Rainbow 6 games in a small way. But it's something more along the lines of a RTS game in some ways due to the way you order your squad around and order them to fire/defend via firing sectors. In Rainbow six, you actually had a Halo-esque way of interacting with each squad member and could actually aim and shoot for them. In FPS, you basically order your alpha and bravo teams around (in a few missions, you get to control a third smaller squad), cautiously moving them along the maps picking and choosing the best corners and means of cover as you see fit. You can set firing sectors where you pick a general direction/sight line and the soldieres will fire at whatever comes close into that area. Make no mistake, the soldier will fire at tangos that suddenly come into view, but the firing sectors are needed to ensure that your other team can move safely into unknown areas. Youdo not actually fire the weapons (except for grenades and smokescreens) in this game, rather, you give the commands and areas. It's not an easy game at first. Precise movements and ducking behind cover is key. Enemy soldiers will engage in firefights and the beauty of this is that you are to use the other squad to move around and pick a better angle to take out a suppressed enemy via an unprotected angle. The training missions will teach you all about keeping enemies occupied with one team while doing damage with the other...that is the KEY to this game. It's not "just another war game" on the XBOX, but rather, a unique ground war battlefield simulation with a modern day setting and believeable cast of characters. 1 part RTS, 1 part 3rd person shooter, this is worthwhile game to try out. Plus....you can access a six level version of the ACTUAL US Army edition of Full Spectrum Warrior that the XBOX version is based on! Cool bonus! -
It is quite good...better than the blurry mess that Tempest 3000 turned into on the NUON platform. Pretty good version...better even than the 32X version. Possibly the best version you could get outside of a $2,000 PC back in the day. Actually, it was announced first for the Jag, but I do recall that the Saturn and PS versions beat out the Jag version in terms of release. You're right, but the "turkeys" seem to stick out more for me than the crowning jewels. As I said, most of the games are fun, but too many reek of rushed deadlines, unimpressive gameplay, and unknown properties.

It was called Ninja Gaiden Shadow, I do believe.

I agree. The bulk of my collection is comprised of the dud games. It's an interesting system to own, and fun to collect for, but don't expect to be playing the majority of the games much.

2600 Atari game system - accessories needed
Adrian M replied to scorpiofan's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
I have a few 3rd party joysticks that I don't use that I could sell you for a nominal cost. PM me. -
It's basically much larger...the size of a telephone book in terms of overall dimensions with the GOTY art on the front. All the maps, quest info for the main quest is identical to the Prophecies edition with the exception of the inclusion of Solstheim and Bloodmoon quest info.

I thought so! I remember looking over the Imagic game catalog that came with some Imagic VCS games and seeing the pics of the mothership from the INTV version. I felt so ripped off by my VCS back then...
-
Not just for sports games, I might add!
-
I could have sworn that there WAS a mothership level in teh Intellivision (or Atari computer) version. Am I right?

Who released it? I don't recall ever seeing the original Mappy for the American NES...though I do remember Naxat releasing MappyLand (along with some other titles like Star Soldier, Fist of the North Star, and some 2D platformer) in 1989. -
Halo 2 Metal Cases - on display at stores!
Adrian M replied to Adrian M's topic in Modern Console Discussion
The front/back metal covering feels a lot like the metal used in those tin boxes for LE PC games (like Flight Simulator 2004). The interior is a gray plastic that seems pretty solid (unlike plastic used in a standard DVD case). Let me reiterate that this is NOT a tin box (where the lid comes off completely), but a hinged DVD metal case. Very, very sweet and well worth it for the extra $5. These Limited Edition versions probably won't be on store shelves very long, so it's advisable that you get you pre-orders in now! -
I just realized I haven't been submitting scores for the last few months. I'll definitely get my act together on this one.

Why do you have to modify your system? You can use one of those RF Coaxial adapters that the AA store sells.
