  1. Deserted Gamecube owners? Chalk up the "desertion" to too few GC owners BUYING their game on top of Nintendo's high license fee. Why continue to develop product for a platform where nobody buys it?
  2. Darn. I already have that edition. Was looking for the larger one that came out last year when the GOTY Edition was released.
  3. Well, the overall design hasn't changed since the first pics came out. The ones on display are marked as promos though, so it's possible they may change the art on the back before ship date, so who knows. But it looks just like the pic below. Picture that, only in DVD case format with a sturdy hinge and you have the general idea!
  4. Judging by how poorly the PC ENgine version of Chase HQ turned out (hardware that was superior to the NES), it's unlikely you'd have been happy with a NES port.
  5. Berzerk is and always will be a great game for the VCS. I say a hearty "MEH" to all the whiners who complain about the lack diagnol shooting robots. The game is pretty damn fun the way it is...addictive and simple. Plus, nothing beats lining up your player just right so that an enemy's bullet passes right through the tiny empty space in the player's neck area!
  6. I know we've all heard about the metal cases for the LE edition of HALO 2. But seeing them in person is something else! EB and Gamestop stores have begun to put out the LE Metal Cases out on display (instead of the plastic mockups that have been out for months now). Those of you who appreciate beautiful/fucntional packaging will NOT be disappointed! Very well made and very attractive. Thankfully, these are not metal cases that clamp down (like those AOL disc cases that have been coming in the mail recently). But rather, this is a DVD case with a metal outside, a nicely made hinge and a plastic interior. This will be very durable and no larger than a regular DVD case. For the extra $5, I suggest anyone on the fence opt for this edition!
  7. You lucky bastard! I've been trying to find one for 2 years now...I buy every Gyromite cart I see and no luck. Which game did you find it in?
  8. That's true. Probably due to the smaller sprites. I always laughed at how the enemies were ALWAYS walking in place (moving their feet) even when standing in a corner or being pummeled. Like they're treading water or something! Pretty much to be expected. The SMS was notorious for its visuals, but flicker was a big problem (RType anyone?) that sometimes degraded the impact. You feel it in particular when chasing after an enemy. Rock ledge section! Yep. As I mentioned earlier, moves just seem to glance off enemies sometimes. The NES version, while disappointingly different from the coin-op and missing the 2p mode, just seems to play better. Moves seem to "connect" just right, and when you kick an enemy, they double over and pause for a second, which is not the case in the SMS version.
  9. They're not terribly valuable. Mostly due to the fact that lots of these things exist and are mostly from no-name manufacturers.
  10. How many places are you going to post the same exact thread?
  11. I'd have to respectfully disagree with you there. The SMS version of DD does have some issues, which many overlook thanks to its faithfulness to the coin-op and the 2p mode. But, the controls are a bit too loose IMO, kicks do not have anywhere near the range that they do in the coin-op/NES versions which sort of makes you rely on punches a bit more than should be necessary. And your moves just don't seem to have any impact...enemies seem to sort of glance off of them while continuing to charge at you. On the rock ledge in Stage 3, you can get caught in a never ending throw glitch if one of the Abobo characters manages to trap you resulting in a throw glitch that you can't escape out of until you die.
  12. You can see the pink paper in this photo I found on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...bayphotohosting
  13. I don't remember that. Interesting. Did the score display actually bounce? I don't recall ever seeing that. Tempest It did on certain sections...it was more of a slight jitter than the "bouncing" that the paper slip stated. You could usually catch it during the second stage as you climbed the tower and during some of the 2p Vs fights. I got my copy of DD the day it came out (from an Ames dept store) and it was the first thing that caught my eye when I opened the box. Perhaps later runs didn't have it?
  14. Oh wow! I just played Thief over at Funspot last week. I didn't realize it was a tape deck game.
  15. That's news to me. I haven't seen that around yet.
  16. How does the paddle feel from a durability and size/weight standpoint? Hate to say it, but the Atari Joystick unit that was released felt kind of off...button felt cheap and the stick wasn't rubber. Seeing that Pac-Man/Walkman unit for myself in stores, it doesn't appear that the build quality is much better. I'm wondering what sort of shortcuts (if any) were taken in the construction of the paddle.
  17. Also, I do have to recommend Full Spectrum Warrior. Well worth a purchase...the game is easy to get into for those who love RTS games or just need a change of pace from the usual FPS and Third Person shooters out there. Since your soldiers are essentially carrying out your commands, the joy of this title is careful movement of your units as well as finding the most effective way to engage and terminate enemies utilizing heavy weaponry to cunning angles and shortcuts whilst your other team pins the enemies back. For some reason, this game sort of reminds me of the glorious Myth games on the PC and Mac. Movement is carried out via a group cluster pointer that you move around on the battlefield in realtime. Firing sectors are even ordered in much the same way, as are grenade and other projectile weapons!! TIP: The smokescreen grenade is your friend on later levels as you must traverse some wide open areas while under fire. Your soldiers all have unique personalities and obscenities are used very frequently throughout the game lending the title are very real feel. The terrorist forces you fight are fictional as is the location (zekistan) but they all have a distinctly middle eastern appearance (right down to unintelligible language they babble) and your alpha and bravo teams seem genuinely happy whenever they gun down one of these said terrorists, which is the way it should be! Try tossing a grenade near a terrorist and they'll yell out something like "mahalla, mahalla" right before it detonates. The icing on the cake is when one of your squadmates remarks "one less asshole to worry about" and "those motherf*ckers can't aim for sh*it!" I love it!! It's all perfect and the best part is, the actual training tool that the US Army uses (which Full Spectrum Warrior is based on) is included and unlockable via a code. It controls differently but it's like getting a whole new game for free!!
  18. One thing to remember and keep in mind....most mags have a 2-3 month lead time (what you're reading and playing on the demo disc is actually 2 or 3 months old). The timing may not work out correctly so a demo may show up months after the game has already been on store shelves.
  19. hehe... Adrian M wrote: Enjoy! http://www.atariage.com/manual_thumbs.html...areLabelID=1896 Hm. Very nice I must say. For some reason I forgot that the Lynx box art for Ishido was different. The much more subdued art for the Mac version is the one I seem to recall.
  20. Actually, you're pretty much correct there. Especially in the case of the repros since you can essentially make the carts as needed while the boxes need to be printed up in one (or more) runs in advance.
  21. Wow, I didn't even know that the game existed on the SMS. Is it a relatively good port?
  22. I've noticed that the prices of the boxed repros at the AA Store vary. Saboteur is $45...3D Rubiks Cube is $50...Funky Fish is only $35....Realsports Basketball is $45....etc. Just wondering what the criteria is for establishing prices for these games? Is it because some of these have/had licensing fees? Does the author demand a higher royalty? I'm just curious is all, particularly since most homebrews (not complete/boxed) consistently debut and sell for $15-$20. This thread should not be taken as a complaint.
