New Sega Console in Dev - New News
Adrian M replied to Atarinvader's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Capcom will support just about any system, regardless. Case in point, they're starting to support the N-Gage and in the past, they supported the NEC SuperGrafx and the X68000 system. -
New Sega Console in Dev - New News

I'm skeptical at best. It is highly unlikely Sega will release any home console hardware, and I doubt their board of directors would approve such an expensive decision. -
That's where I got the photo from and I even referenced the site in an earlier post.

How did you decide what console/portable to buy?
Adrian M replied to farfel's topic in Modern Console Discussion
It's sad you did not buy any to have fun. Actually, I got more fun out of Halo and PGR than I did with the ENTIRE Dreamcast library! No joke! -

1. XBOX - I bought the XBOX on launch day along with Halo and PGR. Why? Because I value Microsoft as a company and I felt that the gaming scene NEEDED a new player, seeing how Sega's system had perished less than 2 years after launch and the fact that I hate Sony and didn't have much faith in Nintendo's GC. 2. N-Gage QD - Again, I bought the Ngage because I was impressed with the all-in-one functionality AND it helps to support other players in the handheld gaming scene seeing how that segment is monopolized by Nintendo's products. -
Agreed.

An informal multi-console survey
Adrian M replied to MegaManFan's topic in Modern Console Discussion
N501 here... VCDs are fine, homebrew games are hit and miss, original games are fine.. but 2 of the last 5 movies I tried to play in it wouldn't read properly.. and they were new. Yeah, the homebrews were pretty inconsistent, though the 5mb file "garbage file" buffer trick did seem to work (when burning the homebrew, add in some random file like an Excel spreadsheet to the disc in addition to the homebrew Nuon file). The N501 didn't really have too many problems for me and it loaded games a bit faster (from what I could tell--especially on Next Tetris). However, I really didn't care for the remote control...that little control stick in particular. The N2000 has a better remote IMO. -

To take this OT for a post or two.. How does your Nuon fare at playing DVDs? Mine (my 2nd I might add - the first was DOA out of the box) has trouble reading so many DVDs, I barely even bother with it.. I use a $50 Norcent instead... It's actually been semi-reliable....this is the N2000 version that I mainly use. I had an N501 as well. I only had the thing lock up on one movie...Tron I believe it was. However, it DOES have issues reading any VCD I create using iMovie on my Mac. -
Is his name Shou-Sama? Anyway, I found this on nfg's webpage. He sells all sorts of cool Japanese hardcore game stuff. I mostly check to see what he has for arcade boards and whatnot (there's a Konami M2 (yes the 3D0 offshoot) arcade board up for sale right now).

Modern consoles? I own: *NUON (yes, it's a modern console that debuted in 2000) *2 XBOX systems (1 launch day console + 1 LE Halo Console!) *Gamecube (I never use it...I have 1 game for it) -
Anyone know that Casio came out with its own weird game system/sticker printer hybrid game console? I suspect the answer is no, but anyway, behold:

Too many good sequels coming out!
Adrian M replied to Gregory DG's topic in Modern Console Discussion
They are. How can you even argue that they aren't? The Mario games were fun on the NES back when we were children. However, the latest iterations (complete with Mario's trademark fruity voices and yells) of Mario and other classic Nintendo franchises have all but cemented Nintendo in the position of being a kiddie game company. Besides, today's kids are becoming fruitier thanks to the widespread influence of anime, Final Fantasy, and Pokemon, so perhaps that is why such games are accepted. Meh, to them I say! -
Issues plague Midway's Arcade Treasures 2
Adrian M replied to Adrian M's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Yep. Check it out. It's like several sound channels are missing, resulting in music that sounds like something generated by a Sega Master System. I'm not joking either. Streets of Rage 2 suffered greatly as well. Plug in your old Genesis versions and hear the atrocity for yourself... -

I assure you I'm not the only one demanding perfection from these collections. The developers seem to be banking on the fact 95% of the people who buy these compilations are totally clueless and will never realize that there are inherent problems with the games. If companies insist on bringing out rehashed collections of ancient arcade games, the least they should do is test and optimize the games to ensure that such problems do not exist. This is totally unacceptable and I hope that Midway learns it's lesson going forward. -

I felt the same way about the DC Smash Pack (Golden Axe, IMO, had the worst sound out of all the games). Sad really. -
Overhyped? There's a good reason for that and it's due to the engaging gameplay and versatile physics engine. Go back and play it again...take your time in the first few levels. Experiment a bit. Change up your approach. Watch how those bullet casings actually roll down hills. Try to save the marine with the sniper rifle and have him sit in the passenger side of the Warthog and witness his ability to snipe enemies efficiently. Try to get the banshee into an interior location to lay waste to grunts. Try beating an area using nothing but melee attacks. Perhaps then you'll soon see why this game is so great.

I must agree with you in some respects (particularly on the Sony-bashing), but you must know that alternatives have always exsited, even aside from those infernal Gameboy handhelds. In particular, the hardcore have flocked to the Neo Geo system for their hardcore and 2D gaming needs during the dark ages when Sony's systems reigned supreme. You see, the Neo's final game (Samurai Spirits V Special) was released just this past summer, making it one of the longest supported gaming systems ever. Yes, it was expensive, but never did it subject its players to 3D cinema-style games or story-dominated gameplay. And while the last few games were mostly 2D fighters (which I adore), there have been some non-fruit releases like the Metal Slug series to give true gamers what they needed...a true 2D fix without the extraneous crap that modern games like Viewtiful Joe throw at you. Even the Atari Jaguar continues to see some odd releases now and again. You see, you do not nor have you ever had to give in to Sony and their interpretation of gaming! Alternatives have always been there, for those who cared to look beyond what is offered at the local Gamestop store. Whether its Atari 2600 homebrews to shareware games on a Mac computer, better games exist. Or you can just buy an XBOX and play modern games as they should have been all along!

Crybabies? These games are upwards of 15 years old! WTF? We demand perfection, and yet, again we are refused! Only the most easily entertained will be happy with this glitch-filled collection! That is all.... -

http://xbox.ign.com/articles/554/554729p1.....html?fromint=1 Once again, the developers have given us shoddy versions of the arcade originals. As good as the emulation, it's definitely not perfect. Whether it's from programming goof, lack of development time, or simply not enough horsepower in the system, there are some quirks in the emulation that keep the games from being 100% accurate to the original title. You'll notice little things mysteriously vanishing shadows in MK2 and MK3 for example. The only real problems in the XBOX version come in the form of Hard Drivin's inconsistent framerate. During the Phantom Photon challenge and instant replays, the game actually gets a little faster and a lot smoother than the arcade version. As great as the game looks in its smoother motion, the developers should have simply stuck with one framerate throughout the entire game experience. Aside from Hard Drivin', the Xbox version runs into the same strange problem as last year's Midway Arcade Treasures: it doesn't matter which controller port you use, it will always default to the first controller button pressed as "Controller One." You'll notice that solo players can't play as anyone but George the Gorilla in Rampage: World Tour, for example, due to this programming glitch. No sense in buying it now.

The thing about most "hardcore" gamers today is that they don't quite fit the description. The majority of them started out on the Playstation and think that 3D is the end-all/be-all. Oddly enough, if you ask these "hardcore" individuals about a Neo Geo or about Nintendo's monopolization allegations of the late 1980's, they'll just stand there and stare cluelessly. You can often find such individuals working in your local Gamestop/EBGames locations!

Could you please repeat that...in English?
