Free Atari games at Taco Bell...
madhatter667 replied to Curt Vendel's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I imagine that if you are running Linux, and they were designed for Windows and Mac, then you probably need to run it under a compatibility/emulation program like WINE or something. -
Do you play old game saves from thrift store finds?
madhatter667 replied to tz101's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Depends. Often I will check out a save just to see the kind of progress the last owner made. Sometimes, if it was significant, I don't erase it. I usually do though, as the games is "new" to me, so I want a clean slate. Just a quirk that I see is largely shared. -
Like many others, I don't loan out expensive and or prized items. I have loaned out CDs before, only to get them returned scratched up. Only lent out one game and it came back scuffed all to hell. I used to loan games in jr. high, but only if someone had a game to loan me in return. Otherwise, it didn't happen. I don't loan anything out anymore; if a friend wants to play a game, he/she can come over to play. Makes a good excuse for social interaction that way.

I am posting in because I saw mention of a member name that I am familiar with. Xtincthed. If this is the same guy that posts on famicomworld.com from time to time, I can't say that I have any beef with the guy, unless he has changed his ethics. I bought two games from the guy, and he came through ok on his end of the deal. However, if it is the same guy, he is overseas, I think Holland, so naturally the shipping on our transaction was rather slow, but the nature of that beast. Just figured I would share that, in case there is a connection.

Do you own any video game soundtracks?
madhatter667 replied to Rhindle The Red's topic in Poll Forum
I have the Silent Hill soundtracks, because I like the music, and the sountracks also have some genuinely creepy stuff in there. Also have the Resident Evil 10th anniversary disc, the Legacy of Kain soundtracks (minus the 5th game), I have a Zelda soundtrack MP3 folder, Guilty Gear XX soundtrack that a friend gave me. Probably have a few more, but those are the big ones for me. If I could find the Dragon Warrior series soundtracks, that would be a lot of fun. Not so much with the Final Fantasy games, too many for my liking. -

Ok, I contacted the forum member who was interested in the lot. I haven't heard back from him yet... but if I don't get any word in a couple days, I am going to start posting pics and taking offers on the stuff system by system. Will keep anyone watching/interested in the loop of what is going on. -
Ninja Spirit is a fun one. How can you mention Turbo Grafx without Bonk? Neutopia and Double Dungeon as well. Most of my TG16 gaming is done on the PC Engine. I haven't gotten around to all region modding it (can be done with a selector switch), but one of these days I think I'll find someone willing to do it. Kato and Ken (or something like that) is pretty fun from a toilet humor standpoint. Just about any of the shooters/space shooters will be pretty fun. If you can get the CD add on, it'll open up a much broader collecting opportunity for you.

Glowing blue USB retro 2600 style joysticks....
madhatter667 replied to Retro Rogue's topic in Classic Console Discussion
A clear and LED lit case for ANY Atari system would be pretty boss. I think a clear 2600 with some green LED lighting would be sweet. Of course, a set of clear joysticks in 9 pin would be flat out awesome. Though I think most of the members here share that view. I'd be in the market for one, but I don't do much in the way of emulation, as I prefer original hardware. I don't have any particular problem with emulation (as I do emulate arcade stuff), but if I can play hard copy, I do. -

madhatter667 replied to madhatter667's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
Ok. I sorted through some stuff, and made a rough list. There may be things added to this a little later, but this is the bulk of it. There is a forum member who is potentially making an offer on the lot. BUT to be fair to everyone who is interested, here is the list, in case he doesn't want it all. More or less taking offers on stuff. Colecovision complete Come with spare controllers, one of which is a Super Action (but it might need button repair). Games: Donkey Kong, DK Jr. Cosmic Avenger, War Room, Nova Blast, Frantic Freddy, Space Panic, Zaxxon, Lady Bug, and Mr. Do! Also comes with Expansion Module #1 (boxed, but box is rough). Odyssey^2 (boxed, but the box has seen better days) needs RF converter. games included: Sid the Spellbinder, Football, Alien Invaders Plus, Basball, Speedball-Spin Out-Crypto Logic, Bowling-Basketball, Subchase-Armored Encounter. Atari 520ST complete. Tested for playing games, didn't test keyboard. Mouse wires need repair. Would need your own TOS disks (unless the 1040 has built in TOS, then they would go with the system). Turbo Grafx 16 complete. games included: D&D Order of the Griffon, Keith Courage in Alpha Zones, Legendary Axe, Ninja Spirit, Splatterhouse. 2 Nintendo 64 systems complete (one has one controller). Games included: Gauntlet Legends, Shadowgate 64, Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, Ogre Battle 64, Donkey Kong 64. 2 Saturns (one is just a deck, both need power cables). One controller, one video cable set. Probably need batteries replaced now. Games included: Virtua Cop, Space hulk, Panzer Dragoon, and an Action Replay Plus. Grey Playstation with extra shell. I have enough controllers and stuff to make this a complete system. 2 Atari 5200 decks. One two port, one four port. 1 Gamecube, complete. You don't get my memory card! (We have a Wii). Intellivision. Needs RF cable/converter. games included: Horse Racing, NBA basketball, sea battle, NFL football, space combat, pga golf. Games are boxed. 1 FC Twin console. Works fine. comes boxed. I have retro duo, and this is just "fluff" in the collection. 1 Neo Geo Pocket Color. Boxed. Games included: Pac-man, metal slug. 2 Atari wood grain 4 switchers. One is nicer looking than the other. I have enough stuff to make these complete, minus the RF converters (I swap systems between one or two, so I don't keep too many on hand). Games included: Star Voyager, Demon Attack, Keystone Capers, Freeway, Battlezone, Street racer, Galaxian, Warlords x2, Gorf, Moon Patrol, Amidar, Mountain King (this one is boxed, but box is rough). Atari 8 bits games: boxed Demon Attack, Oac-Man, Star raiders. Dreamcast Deck. 2 SNES dekcs. Sega 32X with Doom, PSU, and vid cables. NES games: SMB, SMB3, Rolling Thunder, Legend of Zelda 2 (gold cart, pretty worn finish on it). Sega Game Gear. Needs audio diode replaced (no sound). Nintendo GBA. Works fine, silver unit. ratty start and select buttons though. I have a whole bunch of Sega Genesis console decks (something around 8 ). I have enough stuff sitting around to make some compete systems minus the RF units. I am also potentially interested in trades, or accepting trades and cash, depending. Mostly looking for Vectrex games (I only have mine storm and hyper chase). There are also Lynx titles I would be interested in, but would need to consult my lists to see what I don't have. Atari 2600 games, 7800 games. If someone had the Aladdin deck enhancer games for the NES that would make a cool trade for something, and there are other Starpath Supercharger games that I would like to get (I have about 7 of them. I have Stella Gets a New Brain, but I like originals). Famicom stuff, and Famicom Disk System games would make good trade bait too. I will do my best to get some pics up, but it will be time consuming. Oh yeah... I also have a clear old school game boy (the 4 battery brick one). As a heads up. I am going to let the forum member who PM'd me get first shot at a lot purchase, as it is easier to sell to one person than keep track of over a dozen possible transactions. This is so you guys know what is available, and to give other members the opportunity to get in on it, should the other member back out. -

madhatter667 replied to madhatter667's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
Last time I plugged everything in, all the 2600s worked I do have a pretty nice 4 switch woody, and a not as pretty 4 switch woody. I'm keeping the Vader and my heavy sixer though I got all the game stuff moved (had my jeep packed to the ceiling, and that was the second load). Now I need to sort, document (as in write it down, so I can actually list it), and photograph it. Lots of stuff to do! As a note, I only tested the 520STe to the point of playing games (because that is why I bought it), I didn't test the keyboard. One thing I know needs attention is the mouse (wiring), but you can get replacement mouse guts from Myatari or Best Electronics last time I looked. Otherwise it is complete, with cables, and monitor. There is ome yellowing here and there, but not as bad as some of the old game systems and computers I have seen. Definitely keep everyone posted as the progress is made. I'm glad that people are interested, because if it goes to someone on the forums, I know that it gets a good home and will be enjoyed. -

Hey all, I appreciate the replies. I am going to have to take a little while to get some pics posted up on the bulk of it. Some of it I still need to retrieve from my parents' place (stored it there because there was no room in the apartment). I moved to a new apartment, and well, still don't have the room Some members have expressed interested through the PM channels as well, but I want to be fair to everyone involved. Got some work to do! -
Hey all. I recently moved, so I am going to be selling off extra systems and games. Some of the systems will be complete, some will have extra games, and some will be spare console decks. Have a few Ataris that are extra (keeping the Jr. Vader, and heavy six). I have a TG16, spare 5200 deck, Draemcast deck, a spare Saturn console deck, a handful of SNES, and NES decks etc. I do have a couple N64s, and some games on that. I have a complete Coleco with some games that can be put on the block, even have and expansion module for it (though I need to test the module still). I was thinking of bundling some extra Atari 2600 games with a console as a sort of "starter" for someone just cutting their teeth in the hobby. I also have a mostly complete ST520 system, the only bug is the mouse needs repair or replacement (bad wires). Do you guys think there would be any interest on the marketplace for some of these items? Just want to know if people may be looking for some of the more "classic" items I have that I can part with. More specific descriptions/details and pics will come a little later, as I am sitting in class waiting for the professor to start. Prices will be reasonable, or best offer when I post them up. I haven't sold much of anything in the collection, ever...so this is new for me. Though I have done business on Surplusrifleforum and famicomworld, and believe I have a good rep as an honest guy.

Video Games with the Coolest Names

Death Trap for the Atari 2600. Ram It! also for the 2600. Death Race is another one I can think of. -
Intellivision stuff at Value Village
madhatter667 replied to atari2600land's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Boxed, I guess that would be alright. I remember picking up an Intellivision system from a Goodwill several years ago for $15. Would probably cost a lot more now. It's all relative to where you are, what you have, how much you want it, and whether you agree with the price given the previous considerations. Would I have spent $10 to fill two holes in my gaming collection if I thought the opportunity was worth it? Sure. -
What have you actually PLAYED tracker for 2010 (Season 3)
madhatter667 replied to cvga's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Most of my classic gaming has been NES/Famicom related lately. Galaga (still love this game) Mighty Final Fight Bubble Bobble 2 Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti Kunio Kun (pirate multicart with several games from the series) SMB SMB3 -
The Official "Thrift finds" Thread
madhatter667 replied to Happy_Dude's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Not exactly a thrift find, but I stopped in at a relatively new game shop near where I live and grabbed two R4 NES carts. It's pretty rare that I find something for the NES, or the Atari that I don't already own when sniffing around shops. Shockwave by American Game Cartridge Exodus: Journey to the Promised Land by Wisdom Tree While I am not religious in the Christian sense, I find a certain sense of campy-ness in their games. Plus I have a thing for unlicensed and pirate games/consoles. AND it filled holes in my NES collection. One of these days I'll get the whole library. Call it a collecting goal. I have long resigned myself to the fact that I will never complete any of the Atari console libraries (though I may get close to getting the Lynx sooner or later). -
How do you store your systems?
madhatter667 replied to wood_jl's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I store consoles in plastic containers. If they are small enough, and loose, I put them in plastic baggies inside the container. Carts... in zip lock bags, in plastic containers. I don't worry about getting my carts CIB. I like to play them. However, almost all my carts get bagged. Except NES carts... I have dust sleeves to help with that. Hard to keep track of everything. And rotating stuff becomes a challenge sometimes. -
It has been a while since I have gone through the list. Here is my best from memory: Atari 2600 Atari 5200 Atari 7800 Atari 800Xl Atari XEGS Atari 130XE Atari 520 ST Atari 1040 ST Atari Lynx NES Famicom/Disk System SNES N64 Gamecube GB GBC GBA Intellivision Intellivision II Colecovision + expansion module Vectrex PSX PS2 PSX debugging unit Xbox Neo Geo Pocket Color Sega Master System Sega Genesis Sega 32X Sega Game Gear Sega Saturn Odyssey 2 Turbo Grafx 16 PC Engine I like all of these for different reasons of course. Though the most love goes to the 2600, 8 bits, NES/Famicom, SNES, and PSX/PS2. Though I would love to have the time and space to do more gaming on the ST computers.

When did game consoles reach their peak for you?
madhatter667 replied to Ransom's topic in Classic Console Discussion
This is a pretty hard one to quantify for me. There are a few very distinct points in my gaming habits that reflect various points of hobby evolution for me. Atari 2600, this is what I cut my teeth on, almost literally. I had older siblings, and I started playing on this thing in like 1984. Though I love this console, and have at least a respectable collection for it, some things have improved over time. NES. I got mine in like 1989 or so. We lived overseas at the time, and we got things a little slower than folks back here in the states. BUT getting the NES back then was a BIG DEAL. This is still a very treasured console in my collection. With over 100 games, I can keep myself entertained. I can always play Super Mario Brothers (any NES title) with a smile. Dragon Warrior still rocks. Castlevania's jump mechanics still suck, but I like it anyway. SNES/16 bit era. Things improved very quick at this time. The SNES was a Xmas present in 1992 (maybe it was '91?). Most of the games released were just great. When I say "An RPG has a classic feel to it," I mean it reminds me of many elements that I recall from this time period. The SNES collection does not rival my NES collection in number, but it does in game quality. To complicate matters, I also collect imports for both NES and SNES (famicom and SFC) just to keep expanding on it all. Playstation was a revival period for me. It took me a while to get one, and this was the first game system that I managed to purchase with my own hard-earned-funds. Many great titles, and a very strong emotional connection here. I used to hang out with one of my best friends after work and play Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Soul Reaver etc. for hours (we worked for the same company for a while). PS2 does have some strong offerings, and was a big purchase for me. Many of the series that I love on PSX were continued on the PS2. I can find almost no fault with this system. It's a pretty nice piece of work for what it is. I still have the old grey PSX console for playing some Proto/unreleased games (Thrill Kill is not 100% compatible with PS2). In fact, I have a couple PSX consoles, including a blue debugging unit. I see the PSX as kind of overlooked by a lot of people. When it has to compete with the classic clout of Atari, Nintendo, Coleco, Vectrex etc. and with the advent of the newer generation consoles... it's sort of the middle child of gaming. Just my feelings in a nutshell. There will always be an Atari, NES, SNES, and PSX/PS2 in my collection. (like many on here I own more than this, these are just the systems that generate a strong emotional connection) -
Plok is silly, fast, and fun. Got that one for Christmas back when it came out. Always found it enjoyable.
-
I just buy various sized Sterelite and Rubbermaid containers to stash carts in. Works pretty well, and some of them even have carry handles. Gets a little expensive though, as I am sure I have a good $50-$100 in just plastic storage boxes.

I just found a Development PS1 at a garage sale!
madhatter667 replied to STICH666's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Mine would have too! I was happy as can be to just find one on eBay. Now you need to work on finding one of the green consoles to round it out (both were used to test games on both hardware revisions... a game had to work on both to "pass"). At least that is what I recall reading about them. The green consoles are harder to find than the blue ones, but either one is still really neat to have in the collection. -
I just found a Development PS1 at a garage sale!
madhatter667 replied to STICH666's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Depending on who had the console, there are sometimes large yellow stickers proclaiming what it is too. Standard PSX cables will work with these things, some of the older revisions had composite out as well. $20 for that is a steal. I paid over $100 for mine. Who needs a mod-chip huh? I don't play mine all that often, but it does sorta make up a centerpiece in the collection. Definitely not your average "oh it's just a Playstation" find!
