I thought only the white asian release PSXs had VCD playback? I read that was a common thing over there since VCD was a pretty popular format. A PSX with RCA cable outlets on the back would have been a really early version of the hardware. The older decks had two major issues: The optical block runners would wear out, and the PSU would fail. Both of these are easy to fix... an afterkmarket optical block can be had for about $25...and they're a snap to switch out. The PSU unbolts easily enough, and that should be a universal application across all the grey consoles. I could be wrong, but I remember reading that it was nothing to retrofit a later model PSU (I think you can even buy these as well) into the earlier casing. However... was this PSX grey, white, black, blue, or green? That would determine whether I would have picked it up.

What's Your "Collecting Fetish"?
madhatter667 replied to Tempest's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Pirate stuff is an odd ball thing to collect. I have a Microgenius famiclone, a FC Twin, and a SuperJoy controller clone. I don't have much in the way of pirate games though. Although the strange world of PAL might cure some of that. Still looking for good multicarts for NES/Famicom...just cause. I DO love the reproductions (my apologies to one forum member whom I had a couple deals lined up with... I never got to send the funds...I ran into money trouble...really annoying). Although I am still working at building this area up some. I also like the unlicensed games for the NES... Camerica and Tengen mostly. I do have some of the Wisdom Tree titles... too campy to NOT pick up. I heart my Aladdin Deck Enhancer. -
Where can one find the standard DVD version? I would go for LD, but I do not have a remote for my LaserDisc machine. Would be pretty fun to essentially turn my player/TV into a wireless arcade game. Did Space Ace ever see a release in this fashion, or is it just Dragon's Lair that is getting all the attention?

The Best Atari 2600 Games You Never Heard Of
madhatter667 replied to DeusExMachina's topic in Atari 2600
Neat. -
What other formats was Dragon's Lair released in? Is this some sort of interactive DVD feature or something? I recall the original played a scenario, and you had to hit buttons at the right time to accomplish something. I could see this being translated to a remote control or something? Am I way off the mark here?

Nintendo Gameboy Classic Gaming Options
madhatter667 replied to Recycled's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Totally recommend any of these. Although if you want the greatest range of compatibility, go with the SP. The screen is nice, the controls are laid out well, responsive as anything else I have laid hands on, an access to 3 complete libraries (GB, GBC, GBA). Of course, the DS isn't anything to scoff at either... but I wouldn't put it into teh same category. Nintendo seems to do handhelds well. -
World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade
madhatter667 replied to GrandviewCoin's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I play WoW. Not chronically, but often enough. It is a lot of fun. I am nowhere near level 60 though! I have a reservation for Burning Crusade, but I cannot get it until tomorrow (day off, and payday). Should be cool though. -
Sega may stop GD-ROM production February 2007
madhatter667 replied to Breakpack's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I have a handful of homebrew stuff on the DC, and it works quite well on CD-R. If homebrew fanatics (the guys who make the stuff) would use commercial CD production, I think it would further the enthusiasm for it. As far as other DC users, I have met few, so my knowledge base for it is really limited (hey! I figured out how to burn this to disc and make it work). -
Ouch, man that blows. $30 isn't much of a BIN depending on what is in the lot.

Nintendo DS Lite Touch Screen Failing Prematurely?
madhatter667 replied to Tempest's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I think it would depend on the game as well. I have noticed that lag in Resident Evil DS... you just sort of take that into account, and time your attacks accordingly. -
Good show! Castlvania SoTN is a good one.

Is this not the Baddest MO_FO 2600 Cart youve ever seen?

I for one like the reproduction stuff... it makes it so those who aren't big on ROMs/emulation to acquire the games for a modest price, and it helps keep the enthusiast base going. The only time that I would say that a repro is a negative thing, is if it happens to confuse someone, soemone tries to sell it as the real thing, or something of that nature. On the other hand, most hard core collectors are able to tell a repro from an original, so I don't see that happening most of the time. -
Literally saved from the junk pile!

Awesome find! Free = best deal ever! -
Yup...authentic reproduction! Oohh... I'll carbon date the casing... nevermind that the double enders were Xonox carts... and therefore within that time frame! As far as I know, there aren't reproduction double end cases... so naturally carbon dating would prove it to be from the late 70s/early 80s. Still neat, but Halloween is by far the better of the two.

Original FamiCom or A/V FamiCom?

I've got a final tomorrow... bummer. Nothing like the stress of a very weighty test over your head to set you on edge! -
Famicom looking device for your GBA.
madhatter667 replied to jboypacman's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I think that is the Time Machine, made by Gametech...the same guys who made the PocketFami. Price was something in the neighborhood of $50, yes? Pluged into the GBA cart slot on your SP? Sounds like it to me. It seems like a neat device, and would make a fun addition to the collection if you have fami carts, especially because the PocketFami is so hard to come by. -
Did Rasitlin try the pecker attack?

Well, there are some other games I am after. The Dragon Warrior Monsters series for the GBC would be for starters. I am going to be acquiring a GBC in the near future (deal already lined up), and I really like the DW/DQ games. I like to think of myself as an eclectic video game collector, so I have a great many systems and games, although I tend to focus a bit heavier on some than others (Atari, NES, SNES, PSX/PS2). Looking to find a copy or Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow for less than $25 total (yeah, right... but it beats $24.99 + tax), so if by some strange vodoo you find one for cheap you could flip it to me for sme profit. I would be damn interested in the pre-order goodies for Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, as the artbook and soundtrack would be awesome, not too mention having a special stylus. These are all far cries though. Old SNES RPG manuals would be cool if you happen across them in thrifts, or older PSX magazines. (These sorts of things I am guessing would be cheap wherever they crop up, aside from a game store, and I would be willing to take the risk of wiring money for that). I am also after the Aladdin Deck Enhancer games, loose or boxed. These were compact carts for the unit, and designed to work with the NES. A little on the obscure side, but usually not too expensive when found. Links to sites or auctions or whatever would be appreciated, if you happen to spy stuff. You have one very distinct advantage over me: You go to flea markets. I wish I could. I don't get much time for such activities, and I know of very, very few fleas that happen in my area. I have often noticed that getting the odd little trinkets related to a franchise/game series is often just as fun as collecting the games themselves...which is both a blessing and a curse!

I used to have a subscription to Game Pro back in the early 90s (right about the time we came back stateside), and I loved it. I would often read the articles and reviews for the NES and SNES stuff, and would always look at the Genesis ports/games and go "I wish that I had one of those too." Well now I do, by my parents tossed all my old GP mags a long time ago.

"Some of the RE action figures, mainly female characters and monsters" Those puppies are gonna be tough. I can send you a link to a website that still has many of the older action figures, but some of them do come with a stiff price tag. Surfing eBay might help there, as I managed to score a Tyrant (Toy-Biz make) for about $12 (packaging isn't the best, but he is complete, and it beats $60). The 10th anniversary characters are well done, and should be easy enough to dig up. I totally want to get the RE 4 sets...they look amazing for toys! Unfortunatley for you, just about every RE fan wants the female characters, and those will probably be the priciest to get, aside from the Leon variant. It's been a fwe weeks since I last checked though. Keep an eye on the 'Bay for Castlevania Chronicles, and Symphony of the Night... they do tend to garner higher prices, but sometimes you get lucky (I got Chronicles near release, which was surprisingly low key, so I didn't pay too much for it). It's a fun game... but HARD...but that's ok...we need a challenge now and again, no? I'll keep an eye out for SH guides... I own SH and SH2 strategy guides... but that's just me puffing myself up... I got lucky w/the guide for SH, the other was given to me by a friend who worked in a video rental store (it had a damaged back cover, or it was a disposal...either way, I won). RE, and RE2 guides (#2 is the unofficial, but still cool). RE Gaiden...that was the one for GBA, correct? That is one game I have never actually seen in person, funny enough. I am guessing that the keychain was a promo item, given with a preorder? I have seen the chainsaw controller, which is SCHWEET, but no keychain. Interesting. I wonder if any of the game shops have that sort of stuff just chilling in the back? Could always ask, the worst that can happen is you get a funny look from the clerk. Every RE collector wants the longbox... the original release, non auto aiming pain in the ass. That is also one I am after. One forum member was actually selling one, but the deal went through, and I was second in line. That = sad emoticon right there. You can find early PAL versions on ebay left and right, but the NTSC longbox is a pain. Sometimes they crop up...but I hate having to resort to eBay, as I am sure many people do. I'll sniff where I can, and can post links for stuff. PM or email, both work. No gurantees, but I will do what I can to aid a fellow fan.

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow Out of Print?
madhatter667 replied to Tempest's topic in Modern Console Discussion
The shelves are thinning out. Check at your local Game Crazies... there were still some there at the stores in my area... would be worth a shot... and it beats buying from auction, or used. That being said I am very glad to have found a copy. Good luck in your hunt! -
Taking The NES on Vacation to Home, Help Me
madhatter667 replied to A2600's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I'd cut it down even more. You aren't going to be there for too long, so I'd whittle it down to just a handful of fun ones. 19. Final Fantasy 30. Mike Tyson’s: Punch-Out!! 55. The Legend of ZELDA 37. R.C. Pro-Am 47. Super Mario Bros. 3
