  1. "I think the mother should be arrested for stupidity. That and the fact SRS should have taken her child away years ago before she could fuck up his life." I can agree with this as well. The kid should seriously have been subjected to some discipline, whether that be an ass paddling, or some serious talking to, is sort of moot at this point. The mother, having had the child at around 15 doesn't come off as responsible. At the same time, bad parenting cannot be the sole culprit of the kid's actions, as there are many socializing factors that a person is exposed to by the age of 12. Although I will agree that it STARTS with the parent/s. Kepone: I DON'T like most kids. The ones I don't have issues with are the more well behaved ones, and those seem to have become a bit of a minority. OR it could be that the troublesome ones are the minority, and are ruining my opinion of kids, as they tend to stand out more in the memory. I do consider myself a bit of a harsh person, I make no secret of that. Having a strong dislike of children makes me nothing akin to a spawn of Hitler. I resent that remark rather strongly. It might make me an asshole, but not much more. People have differing opinions, simple. "Can't we all just get along" is a broken ideal. My best friend's father was an alcoholic, who DID beat his kids, they've been to more foster homes than I can remember over the years. Both of them (his younger brother as well) are intelligent, mature, and relatively well adjusted guys, not too mention often insightful. Maybe they are in the minority on that end too, I don't know. But it does say something about the human organism's ability to adjust, and adapt. Given my experiences with that end of the spectrum, a little physical punishment is not likely to damage anything. Though I will also admit, my opinion is very biased on this point. I like to think that a combination of multiple disciplinary styles to be the most effective medium, with a physical consequence being reserved for the more extreme situations. Taking a child, sitting them down, and talking to them about it DOES work, when a child is old enough to comprehend, and sometimes more is needed. I also agree that many studies are slanted. Taking the video games/media violence having a profound impact on the way children behave: Many of the media images were removed from context, and most of the studies that were done on media violence that showed a positive correlation between violent media and violent children were dismissed. Don't belive it? Check out the PBS website, and the article "8 Video Game Myths Debunked". It was written by an MIT professor (I think, he was a professor, might have been PhD. I do not recall 100% if MIT was the university he worked for). There is always more to a situation than we initially perceive.
  2. RR5 needs to drop the holier than thou attitude. It is a parent's right to discipline his or her creation. I didn't get the snot beat outta me or anything, but when I messed up, I got my ass whooped for it. I think it is more of a shock thing... makes you think. It IS one thing when a child doesn't know better, or perhaps has never been taught better. At 12 years of age you DO know better, whether through parental teachings or the socialization process of school.
  3. Or something. I have the right to satidfy my curiosity, on anything, without getting derisive comments made about it. Game stores sell these things now (more or less... the NES clones, the Famiclones, and now the FC Twin from what I have read). They might be a viable product to carry at some point in time when I get my shop started up (long term goal)... I'd like to see the progress on the clone stuff a bit more firsthand. The only clones I own are a N64 controller type which was a gift, and a Micro Genius IQ-501, which is a fairly old machine if my readings are correct. Although, being that classic games do still enjoy an audience, I don't see why Nintendo doesn't make budget repros of their own stuff? It might not be economically viable for them on a large scale... that's my guess. The Virtual Console is a step (somewhat) in that direction, but it seems more like an interesting afterthought.
  4. Didn't you post something negative in the other FC Twin thread? OH yeah.. ya did. I own more game stuff than I have space inside for. I OWN many, many consoles. I don't need to spend money on an SNES, I have 4 , I don't need to blow money on an NES, I have 5, nor on an Atari 2600, I have 6 consoles... get the drift? Some people like to goof off and experiment. This is interesting enough to take a look at. You chime in on just about every clone thread. As far as I know, this is relatively new, and not many people have experience with them. My turn to add a little something to the community via some feedback. Other people have bought clones for the sake of checking them out.
  5. "You guys are totally nuts paying $60 for an unofficial clone of the NES/SNES. NOAC clones are horrid for NES games, so you are left with a SNES clone... and they have their own issues, ESPECIALLY when it comes to sound. So, why not spend $60 on a good condition real SNES?" Hose off already... I OWN multiple NES and SNES decks. This is interesting regardless. It may also save some space, as well as some convenient inputs. I also want to see for myself how well this thing will work out...since this one is fairly new.
  6. Repro=Reproduction. For those of us who do not have the funds to acquire the original of a rare game, there are some generous folks who will reproduce a cartridge for you, as long as it is public domain (you see this with Vectrex often, in the form of multi-carts, or the VecFlash carts).
  7. Resident Evil: Deadly Silence isn't a bad port, and the rebirth mode adds some interactive puzzles. Really fun. As a warning, if you plpay as Chris...it is hard mode... and it isn't kidding! Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance. Sure, it's a GBA title... but it kicks major ass (remember the DS is GBA compatible). It reminds me a lot of Symphony of the Night and that isn't a bad thing. Lunar: Dragonsong. I haven't played this one too much, but the Lunar games are typically pretty fun. Children of Mana...this one gotten so-so reviews... but I think it'll be a fun title. I haven't messed with this one much either on account of being hooked on Resident Evil DS.
  8. "Yep, I worked for Electronics Boutique back in the early 90s. We never had to push ANYTHING on the customers. At the time, I remember them stressing to engage every single customer and to try and answer any questions they might have, but we were never encouraged to try and sell them stuff they didn't need. Ask if the customer needs any help, answer any questions they may have, keep an eye out for shoplifters, keep the store tidy, and that's about it. Of course, back then we did have to wear a button down shirt and tie." I'd take a shirt and tie for a more relaxed work environment anyday. Look at the interesting alternatives that this thread has brought to light... I didn't know Gamefly sold used games. I always thought that they were a rental service, much like Netflix. That's cool... I'm going to have to check them out... it might be worth my while, even if I have to order one game at a time. The only thing I can say about the EB used card: It's worth it for the GI subscription. It will also save a few bucks if you happen to shop there often enough (say you find a decent store with some friendly employees who aren't always trying to impose on you). So in that respect, it isn't bad. I do try and avoid those places, and tend to check out Game Crazy more often... I have known people who work for Hollywood/gamecrazy, and they have always been square people to deal with (aside from being friends outside of work). I think EB/Gamestop/Software Etc. (Babbages in some areas I think) could seriously improve their services: starting with a little employee education, then relaxing the whole pre-order/game card pushiness, and start carrying PSX, Dreamcast, SNES, NES etc. A game store can make solid money from selling the new stuff, sure, but there are plenty of older game fans, that play more than just the new stuff... and given the expanse of classic era games... it wouldn't get stale... I mean, I can always find an NES game, Atari, SNES, or a PSX I'd like to pick up aside from all the newer goodies.
  9. I have a double ender repro with split label artwork. Different, and economical. Getting the real thing costs a fairly pretty penny. Halloween is the more entertaining of the two. I think that also tends to be the group concensus as well.
  10. "BTW, getting a 15 year old pregnant does not in any way reduce or remove the amount of responsiblity a man has to a child. Only a coward runs from that responsibility. A real man would be in the child's life as much as he possibly could." I think they call it "Mah baby Daddy" in the ghetto (or the self made, or wannabe ghetto). Or as I like to say "Worthless piece of shit"
  11. I hate EB/Gamestop. I rarely ever shop there. The last time I went, the guys behing the counter were younger. My age, or a little under, with some really gauged out plugs in his ear, the other guy was just mellow . He politely asked if I would like the card, I said no, my buddy has one. He said "good enough" and even let me use my friend's card to save on some used games. Also had a buy 2 get one free mix-n-match sale going on, which we took advantage of. Everything went smooth there. Note, this is the exception, NOT the rule. These guys were cool, just earning a paycheck, and asking the required questions (they actually enforce the selling of card memberships, preorders and whatnot), and didn't push the issue when declined. This was the Gamestop out in Gig Harbor, WA...near closing time. But the service at EB/Gamestop/Electronics Etc. Has gone down hill very steadily over the years. So much that I don't go in there often enough, and 9 times out of 10, I look around, find a few things I might like, and then decide to not buy it because the prices are too high. I also talk to the staff as little as possible...which I am sure helps. I also have no problem walking out if things get irritating. Nothing is more insulting than to turn your back and walk away. There goes the money they were hoping for. And when the security camera gets reviewed, it will be seen.
  12. From the pictures I didn't see any lockout tabs... I so hope they aren't in there. If they are, well...they're coming out.
  13. What a Grade A POS. Kids like that need to get a severe beating. When I screwed up, I got whooped. When most of my friends screwed up they got whooped. Simple. It doesn't make someone maladjusted or anything. Kids should be treated as second rate, then they'll understand respect, and value their individual freedoms and understand what responsibilty means later in life. I mean kids DON'T understand much of how the world works. Now you don't have to always play by "their" rules, but you certainly can't get by acting senseless and spoiled. Guess I just don't like kids.
  14. Some people are actually trying to circulate bits of this article like it is some kind of rally call against police brutality. Which really irks me, because both sides and all circumstances are not known at this time, which makes it hard to do anything but form a very one sided opinion. We see it right here. There are those who largely believe that it was good on the cops, and those that think the actions were total BS. Somewhere in the middle, you get small group of people who are more or less willing to take things in a broader sense. I personally think the cops did the right thing, but I am also open to the possibility that there may have been a mistake, and if so, it's gonna be a world of shit to get out or it. So even I am sort of one sided on this, eventhough I am trying not to be. It's human nature to form opinions as such... you see it all the time. The key is the ability to reason.
  15. "isn't driving around in a gold Pontiac reason enough to get shot/" PWN! Cop sniffer? No. I believe that the less you have to deal with law enforcement, the better off you are. I HATE thieves. Someone who would take something from you that you actually worked hard to attain, with no qualms, or second thoughts DOESN'T DESERVE TO BE BREATHING! Seriously, anger aside. I cannot stand thieves. Imagine getting YOUR car stolen... whoever took your car might as well have taken away your means of earning a living. Some companies don't care what troubles have fallen on you: you still have to get to work. Not everyone is fortunate to work for a good company, or understanding supervisors. To the average person, those two PS3s are about equal to a car in $$$. Not that I am trying to say that a PS3 is as good as a car... but it isn't EASY to drop that kind of money on such a thing...someone worked his/her ass off to get that kind of scratch, and some random piece of shit takes it away, with 3 friends like a coward. Glad the guy got smoked.
  16. Atari only? 6 Atari 2600/VCS: 1 heavy six Sears model, 2 four switch woodies, 1 vader, and 2 Jr. 3 Atari 5200: 1 four port, and 2 dual port. Atari 7800: Just the one. Atari 2600 carts: about 100 Atari 5200: No more than 6 Atari 7800: As far as I know, none. This is something that needs work, I know.
  17. "You're looking for 4 suspects. You're going to an apartment where 4 guys live. You've got a guy that's (alledgedly) already demonstrated violent behavior coming toward you holding something roughly gun-sized and he has a big ass German Shepherd with him. Just guessing here, but the apartment was probably poorly lit also. I'd hate to be a cop in that situation." I do feel bad for any police officer stuck in such a sitution. But at the same time, if this was indeed the person who committed the crime, then there was past displays of violence, and he likely was mouthing off on the way to the door. Has anything been dug up on the room-mates? Some of them could easily have been involved with the action. It would almost be hard to NOT know something about how the guy would have come across 2 PS3s so easily, and quickly. If it turns out the guy was the perp... then good on the cops for blasating him. One less piece of shit out on the streets. If the guy was innocent, I have nothing but sympathy for the officers... I would not want the death of some random bloke on my hands!
  18. IF someone builds an adapter cable, let me know... I'd be willing to cough out a few bucks to get some made, as I am no good with wires personally. Building adapter cables would be sweet though, as it would definitely open up more possibilities.
  19. If you are after one at an OK price, they're all over ebay, and all pretty much roughly $60 total. I ordered mine from baysoftgames.com, and it came up to something around $58 after shipping. Now I am just itching to get it in the mail. For some reason, I am drawn to odd or interesting bits of game tech... usually of the older variety (anything new is more or less mainstream as it gets... which isn't bad mind you). Current favourites on the unusual list: Twin Famicom (FDS and Fami together, licensed by Nintendo, built by Sharp) very cool piece. The Vectrex, Micro Genius IQ-501 (a decently built famiclone from back in the day), Genesis 3, and my translucent orange PSX. I'll give input on the machine's performance when I get mine... I happen to have a few titles that people believe will puch compatability boundaries.
  20. Yeah, that's his system pictured in the Ultimate Console Databse. It looks promising, but I guess I will have to sit and bite my nails until mine arrives.
  21. I think the switch is to change region coding for the cartridge. If so, it wasn't a bad idea...as then you manufacture one (relatively) global cartridge. The Camerica Aladdin cart releases were to be sold for $15-$20 from all the readings I have done, so in that respect, no they were attempting to make games for less, and sell them for less... but in large quantities. There are other Dizzy series games released as standard carts. Adventure Island Dizzy is part of the Quattro Adventure cart. There is another Dizzy title that was released as a standard NES cart, but I am almost positive that it wasn't Dizzy the Adventurer. I could be wrong though... but everything I have read said that the pack in cart for the Aladdin was an exclusive.
  22. Hey guys, It seems that there is a new clone out. It's called the FC Twin, and it's being distributed through Yobo. This thing is an NES AND an SNES clone. The NES slot is 72 pin, so it'll take U/C carts. I am wondering if the SNES slot has the tabs that were meant to keep you from stuffing a Super Famicom cartridge in there or not? Has anyone heard of this thing besides me? This system actually looks semi-promising... as there is an actual mobo in the thing (or at least looks that way): http://ultimateconsoledatabase.com/famiclones/FC_twin.htm There does seem to be a couple drawbacks to this though: It uses SNES like controllers, and should also accept SNES first party controllers/peripherals (the other Yobo clones did from what I have read). This means that it doesn't take NES peripherals...which means no Zapper. But when meshing both systems together, it seems like that was the lesser of evils to choose. The NES part is believed to be an NOAC, although I haven't seen much to support this idea, it is likely. But I couldn't see the main part of that on the board. I have seen pics of other NOACs, and it just looked similar to a processor (minus all the connector pins). I ordered one of these consoles from www.baysoftgames.com. Being based out of WI... shipping was very reasonable. This clone also seems very new, like it was released sometime this month. So I am not very surprised that there isn't a lot of info on this one. Although it would be awesome if some company got off its figurative ass, and built a really killer clone, I am expecting a few bugs here and there, which seem inherent to all cloned hardware.
  23. I would say you are correct Uzuzmaki. As far as I could tell, Dizzy the Adventurer was only released as an Aladdin cart. To me, it is an interesting historical footnote, and therefore, worth having from a collection standpoint.
  24. I voted for the arcade game... it is by far the one that I have played the most of. Although I distinctly recall playing one for the Atari computer (800XL, or the 1300... I think that was the XE) , but I don't remember which one.
  25. Custom game cases, from any source, would likely be badass! Still waiting to see something in the way of a translucent red, or green, and maybe an orange. That would be neat as hell.
