  1. Last time I went to Game Crazy, I picked up a couple games (PSX) only to find that the manuals were purposely tirn down to the front and back covers, and the page with the instructions. This didn't bother me so much, as I didn't pay much for what I did get. But if I had laid down more than a couple bucks per title I would have been put off.

I get very pissed over discs being sold with nothing else.

I walk out when the employees get all uppity. Not often, but it does happen, and then they don't get my money. Since places have stopped taking PSX discs... and I have combed over the local chain stores' supply of PSX and Dreamcast, and what little NES, SNES, Genesis, Saturn etc. so I don't have much reason to go in there anymore. It's just a waste of my time to pick through over priced sports games.

  2. The Dragon Warrior series, 4 being a good one among them, but also probably the most expensive/hardest to find.

    Tengen made a few good ones...Gauntlet, Gauntlet 2, Pac-Man

    The Donkey Kong classics

    The Adventure Island series

    The Double Dragon series

Trying to come up with stuff not mentioned.

  3. Oh, that was in regards to stuff like unreleased/prototype ISOs and whatnot. It wasn't really trouble, but the forums rules were update thanks to the situation. Harmless in my eyes, but not in everyone else's. I edited my posts to remove the "questionable" content, and just did a public apology to show that I really meant no harm by it.

I am into playing games, as much as I am into preserving them. Therefore, I see no harm in accumulating prot/beta/NR ISO files, and burning them to disc. I have the means to play such things... as I have boot/swap discs, and I am also seriously contemplating getting a full on mod machine. I have a debugging unit, which is in my opinion better than a mod, since it is 100% first party ware...but also higher up on the rarity scale...so I have a tendency to baby it, and play such apps on compatible machines (like my famiclone vs. Twin Famicom).

It's a fun forum, but still small. The curator is hoping to get sponsored by Sony... it would be cool, but I don't expect it to happen (despite my misgivings about Sony business practices, I still love the PSX/PS2, and they are probably my favorite playing console out of all of them). there is a lot of potential.

I would say that if anyone wanted to learn anything about the titles that are not released, one could always email, and I would be happy to fill in the details from my experiences.

  4. IF I could only go back, and do ONE thing, it would be zipping back to the heyday of arcades... and apply at Atari as a programmer...

Stick with the company up to just before they started to lose serious profits. Quit while I am ahead. Live comfortably on the mad money I had earned in the process. At least, that's teh theory. Once I got in at Atari, I could accumulate protos, lab loaners, and then once they crashed, the friends I made on the inside could smuggle me goodies. Sell a bunch of the stuff at classic gaming conventions and auctions that might be held there, and live comfortably through my middle years thanks to foresight.

  5. I voted for no impact. While I am fairly angry at the Lik-Sang ordeal, and I believe Sony is a bunch of uppity pricks... I love the PSX and the PS2. If the PS3 is as solid as they are making it out to be, I'd buy one after the prices go down. If it is good, it's good... I tend to not care as much about business politics (cause I don't think that anyone could afford to stop them in this latest endeavor) as I do about playability.

There are other sources for import goods, after all. Just kinda bummer that a large company can flex its purse strings and snuff out whomever they wish. Things may definitely be different in the EU (I have lived stateside for many years now), and I am sure the laws for importing goods are quite different there.

  6. "Probably to get them out of circulation and then why not use them too?"

This does make some sense, but they could have been pulled from circulation through the lawsuit, no? Wouldn't it have been more economic to do it in that fashion? Wouldn't Nintendo have the ability to create these sort of devices for in house testing (like the EPROM carts from Atari)? Seems to be the roundabout way to accomplish a goal.

I just don't see much wrong with what Lik-Sang was doing, and apparently neither do a lot of other consumers. Sure, one COULD load up a ton of ROMs on a flashcart, and theoretically play them on a GBA, but there are other uses for such technology... I don't think many people would actively advertise pirate capabilities with the products they are offering... instant hot water and a lot of red tape.

  7. I too was hoping to get a few products from Lik-Sang, not just limited to the Pocket Fami (which is legit from all I have read...since patents expired, and were not renewed, Game Tech won the lawsuit on that end, and from what I remember it launched the PF in Japan).

I too believe that either a) consoles should be region free, there is nothing stopping the idea... if oddball companies can make modchips to make it happen, then what is stopping the manufacturer from doing this? b) if I want a Japanese console, and I am willing to toss out the moeny for it, I should be entitled to that c) Lik-Sang would have had to buy the units, and therefore is doing nothing more than resale...Sony still made money off of those sales, and in turn, aren't losing anything (theoretically) from the people who purchased them... Hell, they might even make some money from import games purchased that were not released in the EU, or the US for that matter.

The whole thing doesn't add up, and reeks of corporate strongarm BS.

I sincerely hope that Lik-Sang will be able to continue business in some fashion... there were multiple products in their catalogue that I wanted.

  8. I don't know if you can get a prison sentence for contempt. I don't know about the laws there, but in WA, it has to be at least a year and a day. Otherwise it's just county lockup (I have had some colorful friends, as well as being witness to some serious BS in the legal system). Not that I am agreeing with what this guy seems to do for a living mind you. Games ARE marketed towards ADULTS.... last time I checked something around 60% of the console market is over the age of 18. It isn't the developer/publisher's fault that parents assume that because it is a video game, it is meant for kids. Or that people just blindly assume that the medium is made for kids. Many current gen gamers are made up of earlier generation gamers... hence the whole 60% figure. People need to wise up, get a clue... and do some research on the topic (if you want to read a good article, go to www.pbs.org they have a section on debunking video game myths by an MIT professor). It's also worth mentioning that most video games have a fair amount of conservative elements to them. The gory, violent, or adult content games are the exception, not the rule (but they are typically fun!). Meh...rant done... I hope they nail this guy as hard as they can.

  9. I still haven't figured out why they don't build consoles region free. If some off the wall company can build a mod-chip to bypass the region lockout, or a swap/boot disc to do it, the manufacturer can do it too, and potentially increase its market.

  10. There are flashcarts that should work wonderfully with the DS platform, given that the sites that sell them boast about emulation using their products. It'd just be a matter of making sure that the emu is compatible, or having the software to write the program in a compatible format (this is usually supplied, I think flashcarts for the GBA would work fine in this instance too). I am totally new to the falsh media stuff...so this is just recycling bits and pieces that I have read.
