If you do, would you sell your X-ROM and software for it?
Anyone have a link for the Supercart?

Alright.
I have a couple questions that I MUST ask. I have a friend who insists that video games started in Japan. Not that I ooze any anti-Japanese sentiments, but I am inclined to disagree, heavily.
There was a table tennis like game made to display on an oscilliscope in 1958, by physicist William Higinbotham, from Brookhaven National Laboratories, NY.
Wasn't the first actual video game Space War, created by a couple of guys at MIT around 1961?
Then even after that, it was Pong, from Atari, which I think was based in Sunnyvale, CA?
If you want to talk home console, with interchangable games, you have the Magnavox Odyssey...wasn't Magnavox an American company?
If you want to take things farther back, Sega, or Service Games, set up entertainment galleries in the 60's and 70's (I think) in Hawaii. Only later moving over to Japan, and even then retained American ownership (as in the guys who formed it were still running it).
Not trying to stir up a hornet's nest or anything;
I am just seeing if my information is on track.

$30 for shipping is too high, when the cost was $13 and change. Everyone agrees that point.
The padding of shipping is a tough one. On one hand, eBay makes money of of fees...but with millions of sellers, and buyer equaling just as many transactions, they are making their money. So if someone has an item I want, and the cost + inflated shipping = standard going rate for said item, I don't sweat it.
But I have been on the receiving end of shipment padding and it really irks me. So, I typically make sure I know what my shipment charges are going to be before hand. If it is something I really want, I can handle a little high on shipping, but I enter into such transactios with that knowledge.

There is also a LOT of information on how to identify these sorts of things on the web. Just google search for Famicom, and Pirate, and you should be good as gold.
-
Looks like just about all of them. There is a black cartridge that looks like a Namco/Namcot release. And the Honeybee adapter I believe is for plugging them into a domestic NES. Do you have pics of the backsides?
Famicom games should have Nintendo and Family Computer written on the face if they're first party. Naco has the name punched in on the upper corner of the cart.
There is a lot of pirate Famicom stuff on eBay. Any FDS game that isn't blue or yellow with Nintendo stamped into it is a pirate disk. The funny thing is, eventually, pirate disks of this sort will be all that will be available/left thanks to the frailty of the disks themselves.

I have old school (ie: dot matrix) GB, and a GBA-SP, and I am going to be buying a DS verrry soon.

CF? What's that?
I agree that most companies who have published games for older systems like the Jag wouldn't care. There is no place that I know of that still sells the games. When you do find them, they are through private parties, meaning that the developers/publishers/parent company sees NONE of the money. Oh noes, you download ISOs for consoles that the companies no longer support in any way, shape, or form. Shame on you!
I mean, come on, we have an emulation forum...where people openly talk of similar things... what is the difference really? Either you download a ROM, and play it on an emulator, or you download an ISO, and find some way to play it on your system. Same thing business wise: you didn't pay for it.
Don't get me wrong, I am all for getting the real deal if it is available, and affordable (which is all relative to income)...but sometimes, you have to compromise.

Yeah, I know...
I have the SMS game as a ROM, and I have the Wonder Boy ROM run on MAME... I loved that game when I was younger... they had it at a bowling alley where I played in the youth league. Been playing that game solid for oh... almost 18 years. I also have a PS2 remake, where the background has a 3D effect, and there are a few extras thrown in for difficulty. Still gotta get the actual game for the SMS (as that is one of many systems I am glad to have).
Nintendo had/has some brutal business tactics. Can't change history. It was a damn good business move... it DID cut out the competition at the time. I think that if Nintendo didn't snap up most of the developers with exclusive contracts, the SMS could have really flown.

"Castlevania is hard..."
Totally agree, it was a rather difficult game (still is). But I still have a lot of fun playing it, and the whole Castlevania series in general.
Adventure Island is another addicting one.
-
I have a fair handful of Famicom/FDS, Super Famicom, PS2 and PSX games, as well as a couple DC games. Good times.
-
Cool... I have been downloading .ATR games so far.

Castlevania II IS a good one.

Alright, so I have the OS ROM paths set. So I can get the emulator up and running. Still getting the games though, and obvviously going to either have to configure the emulator for a controller, or set up the keys. Although I would say getting a controller is the preferred route. Thanks for the input.
Anything else I should know? Like how to make the emulator screen full size? I could use tips on how to distinguish which games are what format.
Thanks again!

OK, so the -800 ROMS are the 800 computer ROMS, the -basic are the ones written in basic, and the 5200?
Many of them I have run across are just titles, which I think are straight up general 800?
I suppose I will find out more when I unzip. I have a loooong way to go until I am done.

The X-ROM is the one I was looking at. How many GBA ROMs can you cram on a 512 card? If I were to buy one, it would be the X-ROM, since it seems to have the best compatibility, and the most plug-n-play out of all of them (no ROM patching... not like I know how to do that anyhow).
Thanks for the input!

I just haven't updated my MAME since I downloaded it. All the ROMs I really care about work, and the few that I like that don't I own for other platforms. Eh..no skin off my nose. I have also backed up all my MAME files, so I can install them on my new PC when it is built.
So that's why I have no dislike for MAME:
I just don't bother to update.
If it isn't broke fix it 'till it is doesn't work for me.

Hmm... titles in my head:
Super Mario Brothers (they just did a great job on this one)
Dragon Warrior (gotta level up!)
Pac-man (Duh!)
More to come I am sure.

Wow, I didn't know there was this much 8 bit stuff?! The vjetnam site has a TON of 8 bit applications. I am guessing that I will have to load an appropriate OS ROM in order to load the game ROMs? I am not even out of the As yet, and I had spent a fair portion of the morning nabbing ROMs for the Atari800Win+. Now I understand why there are a number of people who are die-hard about their old Atari computers. I need to find sources for original software...I have the computer, as well as a number of accessories for it.
-
Thanks...browsing those. I had an 800Win emulator that I snagged from elsewhere, but it wouldn't boot right. Hopefully these work better... snagging the 800Win+.
Will this one also run 5200 ROMs? I had MESS at one point, but never configured it, and had a hard time figuring it out... too bad I couldn't find a MESS for Dummies, like some folks set up for MAME.

Yeah, I am communicating with him via email to hammer out the particulars of the process. I want to have a good idea of what I am doing before I lay out the money for the cart. Seems like a fun way to build up the collection. While not as large as the awesome Sean Kelley multi unit, a couple of those Vecflash carts are still cheaper, and chances are, I won't want to play every game. Although I have been wrong before.

Hey all.
I am curious about Atari 6 bit emulation. I think the 800XL computer was an 8 bit system. I actually still have one of these somewhere, but lacking software at this time. I recall playing a couple games on it when I was younger. Superman, and Plaqueman, or maybe it was Plaque Attack (you ran around trying to scrub teeth and keep them clean). I was wondering if there are any emulators for Windows? If so, where can I DL one, and are the ROMs within the public domain? If so, where can I find some? This seems like an area of gaming that I am missing out on.

There are people who hate MAME? I love the thing, I think it is a great way to play fun arcade games at home. Not everyone can have an arcade cab in their rec room, bedroom, or living room.

Hey guys,
I don't know how old/new this emulator program is, but it is called MagicEngine, and going by the title of the thread, is a TG16 emulation program. I haven't messed with it a lot, but I have played with it a little, and it is very nice. Simple, easy to use front end, and can be launched from the desktop. All in all, good fun for an obscure system (I own one, and have a few games...and have a hard time finding more).
Anyone else use this program? Suggestions on how to set everything up/streamline the system?
Also, I am totally thinking about picking up a USB game pad. This would be a great addition I think to playing emulators on the PC. Does anyone have a suggestion for this one? I also run MAME, so having an analog stick would be convenient as well. I was thinking about just going to a random store, like best buy, or Wally World (as much as I hate the place) and seeing what they have, but I want to see what others might recommend.

I'll likely obtain one of each new gen machine. Just not at launch...save for perhaps the Wii. I want one of those anyhow, and since it is the cheapest, that'll be the first I get...and even at that, I'll wait for the prices to come down a bit anyhow.

Oh yeah, I am in no way saying that they haven't contributed anything. Not by a long shot. The debate was the country of origin for video games.
