I recieved mine yesterday, though I live in the same state, so I probably got it sooner than most. Anyway I still have to get another Pokey chip for the job, and apparently, even though I have about 50 74lsXX chips on hand, none of them are 74ls14 chips, so I have to get one of them as well. But it's all good, I want to wait for my Rambo board to do the upgrades at the same time. I need to order the ram for it too. But the board is nice, neat, and compact. Looks good.Yeah, got mine a couple of days ago too.
Good job, Metalguy66!

If I was starting out, I'd try to find a Link2 or Link97 off of Ebay. They come up occasionally. Ask places like B&C or Best, even 16/32 Systems and Atari Workshop in the UK. Those are the adapters. You'll need a good SCSI drive in an external case. Those also come up on Ebay. I believe Best sells an "all in one solution". If I had the money, that would probably be the route I'd take.

I asked inXile about the license, but it seems they missed the point what I have asked them.---------------------
Here:
Hello Bostjan,
Unfortunately there is no information available regarding future releases of any version of The Bard's Tale. However, if you are interested in the classic Bard's Tale games, all three of them been bundled with latest release of The Bard's Tale for the PC. I hope this is of help and we appreciate your interest in our products.
Kind regards,

Oh man, did you see the PC version of Bards Tale though? It really sucked vacuum hard compared to the Atari/Amiga versions! :-(

Rory McMahon makes and sells the EtherNEC. Here is the URL to his page:
The kit comes with a CD with a bunch of software and instructions.
Here are some other links to get you started:
http://www.anodynesoftware.com/ethernet/main.htm

and about the questions - the only dumb one is the one not asked.

Call me the relatively happy new owner of an ST computer...For a cool 20 bucks, I scored myself a 520 ST, Mouse, Power Supply....
...and three SF354 drives with two power supplies.
On the more interesing side...it's been modified with RCA composite and sound output (though I understand you can get those (well, at least composite video) through the monitor port...)
The problems...?
The mod is really ugly...and has nasty old wires sticking out of the case. Can I buy a video cable for this anywhere? (I haven't seen one...and that's why I ask...I'd build one...but that port seems far from standard...and i'd still prefer to buy)
Oh...and the three SF354s...are SF354s...meaning they suck. And two of them don't work at all. The two that don't work power up and the computer detects them...but they can't read anything. The other one...it seems to work some of the time...but doesn't read some disks...(I don't know if that's because they're bad...or what)
So...are these drives repairable? I don't want to replace the mechanism...as they have those giant buttons...and well...that would be a pain to get another drive to work...
And that said...how much is an SF314 going to run me? I know best has replacement drives...but they're expensive...and there were none on flebay last tiem I checked... I'm thinking replacement because my 314 drives are relatively useless...as all disk images i can find online are double sided...
It probably is the drives, but since its a 520 ST and fairly problematic for "chip creep", I'd do the 6 inch drop on it first. Pick the 520 itself up, about 6-12 inches, let it drop on a hard, flat surface. If it solves your problem, then you'll probably have to open the 520 up and remove, clean and reseat the socketed chips.
Have you tried swapping cables 'n stuff between the drives, in case on the odd chance it might be a cable. You might find the best combo of the hardware you've got..
They are all expensive, but try B&C Computervision and Bravo Sierra computers as well as Best Electronics for drives...
HTHs.
PS Congratulations on that price - not half bad! :-)

Rory sells it. I've got one. It does work. You have to use the STing software with it.
Its not as fast as a "true" LAN/ethernet but its waaaay faster than serial port speeds.

I'm sure it is. What I want to know is if this guy can possibly use it or not? Man, that would be something if he could.
ICD did many things right. Sheesh, I've got that version of Pascal, the Adspeed accelerator, the Link2... Quite a long list actually. :-)

Hmm, pascals for ST/TT/falcon series wchich I known are:1. Pure Pascal (Turbo Pascal 7.0 replacement on Atari);
2. Alice Pascal
3. Maxon Pascal (Turbo Pascal 5,5 replacement on Atari).
Pure Pascal is still commercial (ASH), Alice Pascal is shareware or freeware (I don' remember), actually status of Maxon Pascal is don't knowing by me this time.
Good luck and we all wait for new progs on Big Ataris!!!
Thanks for all this! Keep this information flowing.

I was searching through my storage boxes and I found:
Personal Pascal v2.05 by ICD (formerly owned/released by OSS?)
Singe floppy - I've not been able to find a manual (yet, but I'm still looking for it).
I copied the contents of the floppy to the HD on my Mega ST4. It runs, I opened up the editor and looked at some files. Seems okay, although honestly I didn't try a lot with it.
What version of Pascal was it that guy from Legend Of The Red Dragon needed?
Thanks!

I finally got the ST back from my friend! He's going in the Navy and decided to give it back to me!
I just got it last nite. I'm gonna make a nice monitor stand for it soon.
I'm thinking of painting the ST case too. I've seen some really nice paint job's posted
here.
i'll be back once I set it all up....
Coolness! Keep us updated on your progress.

I've heard that you can use the newer LCD TVs for a Falcon. You would still have to check the horizontal sync rate and make sure it could go down to 15k..as long as it does, you should be able to do both RGB and VGA with it. They are very pricey though!
I chose another route becaue of the price. I picked up a multisync monitor switch and a used NEC 3D from Ebay ($35). Now I can get up to 800x600 rez in VGA and still watch those ultra-cool mega demos like "Hmm" and "Beams" on one monitor.

Launch "Beams"...with my chair leaned back, feet propped up, stereo system cranked up, drinking a brewski... Man, thats living!

Just logged off there. We've had 12 calls today so far. No problems that I'm aware of.
Keep in mind, usually when you get a connection refused, its because another user is online, or the system software is performing routine maintenance.
If you get unable to make a connections, then its usually because that good for nothing Sysop has the system offline tinking with something.

Please try again and let me know if you're still having problems.
PS You are pressing <ENTER> a couple of times, right after the connection is made, right?

Thats cool I have to get my ST working again. I used to run several BBS systems back in the day. I ran "The ST Guild" for all the ST years, and had a few articals about it in several magazines. I ran that on Express, then I switched to FoReM, and ran Shattered Destinies. I still have my 2 Maxtor drives for a total of 225 megs back in the day. What software do I need to use. I am like totaly clueless on the telnet thing.Thats the wonderful thing about using the Lantronix UDS10. You don't have to have special software! :-)
Seriously, I took my BBS Express ST v1.98a setup that I had been using with a Supra modem, and switched it straight over. The only thing I had to do on the ST side was change the mdm file that sent modem commands. I made a blank one (removed all the entries). Until I did that - Express wouldn't answer any incoming calls. Of course I left software in place like hsmodem and the CPX that sets serial port settings.
Now on the hardware side, I had to do a few things. You can actually telnet or use a web brower to log right into the UDS10. You set your own password so that nobody but you can make changes. You have to set a few things to make it act like a modem and receive calls, but its not too hard. I'm using a Dlink hardware router and I dedicated 1 line/ip address (192.168.0.104) to the Mega ST4 that runs the BBS. I set port forwarding in the router so that anyone who telnets to my actual online ip address is forwarded to the BBSs internal (LAN) ip address of 192.168.0.104. I also arranged with my domain provider (register4less) to setup my actual physical internet address as "bbs.darkforce.org" so that anyone can just telnet to that, instead of having to remember the quad number of the ip address itself.
So basically, when someone enters "telnet bbs.darkforce.org" they are sent to my 24.xxx.xxx.xxx ip address, where my Dlink router forwards them to the BBSs internal address of 192.168.0.104, where the UDS10 converts it to serial data for the Mega ST4, and BBS Express just interprets it as a modem call and answers. :-)
I hope that answers your questions and doesn't confuse you!

You can use the Lantronix UDS10. Its a serial port to LAN converter. Works great. Thats what I'm currently using on my BBS. DarkForce is an Atari ST based BBS, but the concept should be the same, I'd reckon.
Check out my website for pics of the UDS10. (see sig).
HTHs.

Sorry I didn't gather that the GAL was your problem from your posts. I thought you couldn't find any info on it.Regardless, the docs spec out the Gal chip you need to buy. A GAL16V8
Here is a blank GAL chip you can order.
http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/se...productId=37452
Now you need a programmer device to program the chip with the code from the RSVE archive (the JED file).
Here are a couple build your own GAL programmer projects.
http://elm-chan.org/works/pgal/report_e.html
http://www.geocities.com/ResearchTriangle/...70/galblast.htm
You can buy them through many vendors like Digikey, Jameco, etc. The commercial ones usually run $200 - $300 though.
Maybe someone one here has a PAL/GAL programmer and can help you.
You could also reverse engineer the GAL and just build a circuit to do the same thing. I believe the docs describe the circuit, and there are programs that can decompile jedec code.
Thanks for all that info. I'll save it for when I need it. :-)

I don't believe thats exactly correct. With my Syquest EZ135 and 200 carts, I can use FAT32 (I believe that's the format name) and it can be read by both PCs and my STs...
I used to exchange files like that with a PC guy here at the local library.
It should be the same for a ZIP cart, I would think...

Atari Archive at Umich has had the RSVE stuff for quite awhile. The archive contains scematics, layour, docs, and jedec code for the GAL chip you need to program.
The docs are in german and english. Each file starts off in German and then the bottom half is the english translation.
http://www.umich.edu/~archive/atari/Utilit...xes/rsve_ge.lzh
Seems pretty straightforward to hook up. You just need someone to program the GAL for you, if you don't have that capability.
Thats the catch - I have no idea how to program a GAL chip...
Thanks for the reply.

Hmm, Doc I missed something somewhere. How do I go about actually signing up for this newsletter? I sent an e-mail from that one page, but I've not received any replies yet.
Thanks guy!
