Rory sells it. I've got one. It does work. You have to use the STing software with it. Its not as fast as a "true" LAN/ethernet but its waaaay faster than serial port speeds.

Why No Bard's Tale for the Atari 8-bits?
DarkLord replied to Tempest's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Yeah, I know, but I couldn't help it! I was actually looking for something else and found this thread... Hard to resist - but I'm sure you guys understand! -
I'm sure it is. What I want to know is if this guy can possibly use it or not? Man, that would be something if he could. ICD did many things right. Sheesh, I've got that version of Pascal, the Adspeed accelerator, the Link2... Quite a long list actually. :-)

Why No Bard's Tale for the Atari 8-bits?
DarkLord replied to Tempest's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Oh no - you can't blame this addiction on me! :-) -
Thanks for all this! Keep this information flowing. 999579 I was searching through my storage boxes and I found: Personal Pascal v2.05 by ICD (formerly owned/released by OSS?) Singe floppy - I've not been able to find a manual (yet, but I'm still looking for it). I copied the contents of the floppy to the HD on my Mega ST4. It runs, I opened up the editor and looked at some files. Seems okay, although honestly I didn't try a lot with it. What version of Pascal was it that guy from Legend Of The Red Dragon needed? Thanks!

Why No Bard's Tale for the Atari 8-bits?

That was always one of my favs. Probably because it hit all groups. Sorcerers rule! Tempest 427043 I always liked putting a Wind Dragon in front of my party. Personally, I liked Archmages the best! :-) -
Coolness! Keep us updated on your progress.

I am using VGA LCD. But sometimes switch to TV via SCART for watching some demo. Lot of old demos works only on RGB or TV 841865 I've heard that you can use the newer LCD TVs for a Falcon. You would still have to check the horizontal sync rate and make sure it could go down to 15k..as long as it does, you should be able to do both RGB and VGA with it. They are very pricey though! I chose another route becaue of the price. I picked up a multisync monitor switch and a used NEC 3D from Ebay ($35). Now I can get up to 800x600 rez in VGA and still watch those ultra-cool mega demos like "Hmm" and "Beams" on one monitor. Launch "Beams"...with my chair leaned back, feet propped up, stereo system cranked up, drinking a brewski... Man, thats living!

Just logged off there. We've had 12 calls today so far. No problems that I'm aware of. Keep in mind, usually when you get a connection refused, its because another user is online, or the system software is performing routine maintenance. If you get unable to make a connections, then its usually because that good for nothing Sysop has the system offline tinking with something. Please try again and let me know if you're still having problems. PS You are pressing <ENTER> a couple of times, right after the connection is made, right?

Thats the wonderful thing about using the Lantronix UDS10. You don't have to have special software! :-) Seriously, I took my BBS Express ST v1.98a setup that I had been using with a Supra modem, and switched it straight over. The only thing I had to do on the ST side was change the mdm file that sent modem commands. I made a blank one (removed all the entries). Until I did that - Express wouldn't answer any incoming calls. Of course I left software in place like hsmodem and the CPX that sets serial port settings. Now on the hardware side, I had to do a few things. You can actually telnet or use a web brower to log right into the UDS10. You set your own password so that nobody but you can make changes. You have to set a few things to make it act like a modem and receive calls, but its not too hard. I'm using a Dlink hardware router and I dedicated 1 line/ip address (192.168.0.104) to the Mega ST4 that runs the BBS. I set port forwarding in the router so that anyone who telnets to my actual online ip address is forwarded to the BBSs internal (LAN) ip address of 192.168.0.104. I also arranged with my domain provider (register4less) to setup my actual physical internet address as "bbs.darkforce.org" so that anyone can just telnet to that, instead of having to remember the quad number of the ip address itself. So basically, when someone enters "telnet bbs.darkforce.org" they are sent to my 24.xxx.xxx.xxx ip address, where my Dlink router forwards them to the BBSs internal address of 192.168.0.104, where the UDS10 converts it to serial data for the Mega ST4, and BBS Express just interprets it as a modem call and answers. :-) I hope that answers your questions and doesn't confuse you!

You can use the Lantronix UDS10. Its a serial port to LAN converter. Works great. Thats what I'm currently using on my BBS. DarkForce is an Atari ST based BBS, but the concept should be the same, I'd reckon. Check out my website for pics of the UDS10. (see sig). HTHs.

Thanks! When I get started on it (never enough time), I'll keep you in mind for that part.

Thanks for all that info. I'll save it for when I need it. :-)

I don't believe thats exactly correct. With my Syquest EZ135 and 200 carts, I can use FAT32 (I believe that's the format name) and it can be read by both PCs and my STs... I used to exchange files like that with a PC guy here at the local library. It should be the same for a ZIP cart, I would think...

Thats the catch - I have no idea how to program a GAL chip... Thanks for the reply.

Hehehehe.....

I don't even know what that is...an acrinim for? 1024450 Honestly, I don't really know what the letters "RSVE" stand for, but I know what it does. Its a hardware based serial port enhancer for ST computers. Using the RSVE mod and HSmodem you can get 38,400 speeds on standard STs, upwards of 115,200 on accelerated ones. Love to have a new one installed in my Mega ST...
-
Okay, you were right. Dang it, I just want to find someone who sells the RSVE hardwre kit!

Er...couldn't find it. Email me at: Okay? Thanks!

My system has HDdriver AHDI 4.2 installed on it right now. That's what it came with when I got it and it's worked fine up to this point, so I thought I'd leave well enough alone. Well, I can't seem to find the HDdriver executable for initializing&formatting anyway, so I'm going to have to download a version anyway, but I need a full program, not a demo. So, maybe there's and older version that is free, but newer than AHDI 4.2? Well, I need to get some zip disk before I worry about it much more anyway. I just thought I could at least get the drive recognized by the computer, even if it gave me a read error. So far it just says the drive does not exist. I think it might be a drive designation problem still though. 1024181 Well, my thought behind mentioning the demo was that if you could try it and it worked, then it would be worth buying. Thats all. I'd hate to see you buy it and it not help with your problem. I've never seen an older free version of it, but who knows. Gunstar, I'd like to contact you by e-mail, if you don't mind. :-)

Sounds like a good idea. Check my sig for my site. :-) BTW, I was wondering - OT, but in your sig...what is a "540STFM"? Thanks!

Hey. Well, (this is AFAIK, so don't shoot me if I'm wrong), the floppy drives have *zero* to do with your HD chain. They are A and B, and thats it. It is SCSI so the adaptor is normally ID 0, and it goes up the chain from there. I set my HD next, because the lower the SCSI LUN, the higher priority it gets, from my understanding. Then I set my CDs or in my case, a SyQuest EZ135 on my BBS hardware, and a EZ200 on my CT60 Falcon. For my SyQuests, which should act a lot like your ZIP drive since they are external SCSI removables too, HDDriver v8.15 here recognizes them just fine. I've got a drive icon on the desktop that works just like a HD icon. What HD software are you using now? HDDriver just rules. If you don't have it, you could download the demo just to see if it does work with your setup. HTHs.
