at $1200 + !

Looked through the Lantronix UDS-10 manual but I'm having trouble figuring
something out...
Exactly what is the difference between disconnect mode "C0" and "C1"?
Thanks.

Pictures man, pictures! If we can't see it, it's only rumor, myth, legend and theoretical possibilities!

I knew it was there for something!

Hmm, probably mostly off-topic but did everyone else who ordered a US
from Lotharek get a wrapped piece of candy with it?
I swear, I had to open it up first - I was scratching my head trying to
figure out what it was and where it went in an US installation.
-
<cough> I'd play the Atari ST versions...
-
Hmm, odd. Did you format it with DOS compatibility? (1.4)
The 2 gig Sandisk cards I use work great with Kubuntu Linux
here, with Mtools.
Of course, it is command line driven and some people don't like
that....

Huh. After re-reading his post, I see what you mean.
Oh well, apologies if I caused any confusion...

Wow, you got quite a bit accomplished there!
What's your budget? If it's upper range/few limits I just bought a very large desk from
here:
https://www.versatables.com/educational-furniture/classroom-desks
They are expensive but built like tanks. I meant to order mahogany (like in the pictures)
but accidentally picked maple. It's grown on me though. My desk is 6' x 3' and I've got
a Win PC in the right hand side with the tower monitor and my Mega STe on the left
side, with room for my STacy snuggled up in between. I love it.

Okay, found a 2 pack of those cables on Amazon and ordered it. I'll see how it
goes and report back here. Once I get everything in place, that is....
-
Does anyone know if there is an extension cable that will let you plug into
the second SD card slot and bring it out, to say, somewhere on the back
VME panel or a modified HD cover?
That way you could run with one card as your main HD, so to speak, and the
other one accessible externally. I know that both are hot swappable, but I
don't feel like having to lift the HD cover every time I want to access a card.
Thanks.

2 hours ago, remowilliams said:Okay, J8 is most assuredly not 'between the sd card slots' on the 1.2 board as far as I can see : D
However, I've installed a header to J8 and it is indicating HDD activity on slot 1 (pins 1/2) and slot 2 (pins 3/4). Black is pins 1 and 4 for the curious (as the LED is wired)
Next question - how do we use just 1 LED for those four pins... I'm assuming a small circuit of some kind would be needed.
Ha! I like the way you mounted yours.
Been trying to figure out how I'm going to do mine...

Has anyone contacted Lotharek to find out what's what about J8 and LEDs?
Be nice to get that sorted out....

I think it's all good - I can find difficulty in *any* undertaking.

3 hours ago, leech said:Bah, those are a pain in the ass to get just right. Most of the first initial ones I tested all on the TT's power line, and they were fine and stuck in the thing, then I went with the smaller gauge wire, because trying to crimp those things on the larger wires are a pain in the ass. But I use the smaller push pins on my test battery than I think maybe the header pins are, so maybe that's why they stay in when I test them, but may pop out when connected to an actual header. Some of them I know should work right, there are little flaps on the black plastic that SHOULD be flat when the pins are inserted all the way, but because the way the crimper works, I still have to squeeze the top part a bit, so that it'll slide into those and hopefully click in place so they don't slide out when it is attached to a header.
If you don't already have a header on your US, then maybe just put some thinner pins onto it? If you can find a tool to push the dupont connectors further into the housing, until it clicks in, they should work great. Sorry about the muck up, I'll make some tonight and test them on the actual headers to see if I have better luck.
Have you played with the multicolor one on the HDD yet?
Please don't take that as criticism, it wasn't!
I've got fumbly (is that even a word?) fingers and these things are usually my fault.
No header on the US yet, have to check out all the options there and get everything together
before I install it.
Negative on the multicolor LED, was trying to get everything else sorted out first. Not to fear,
it's lying right beside the green and yellow, next to the hard drive cage.

I think the length will still be fine.
Okay, about testing. As it turns out, once I got the hard drive cage apart and cleaned
everything, the original holder is still solid on mine. It appears that the goop/paint/insulation
that they put on the holder did its job - mine isn't rusted at all (although the original grommet
is rotted badly, and that made me think the whole thing was kaput). So I was able to just take
one of the black grommets you sent and replace everything and it worked fine. I'll hang on to
to the new holder replacement in case it ever does rust out.
Now, from what I could judge, it certainly looks like if the encircling end of the original holder
was rusted away, that your new holder would slip over it and function fine. I did slide it on mine
just to see, but of course it wouldn't go far enough because the piece was still whole.
My humble opinion is that it will work great with Mega STe's where the holder has rusted away.
If I had to gripe about -1- single thing (and it's not really a gripe, more like a vexed observation),
that would be those darned connectors. I'm having a devil of a time getting a solid connection
with them. I have to manually push the red and black wires just as far as they can go, as hard as
I can, to the ends of the black piece, trying to get them to work. Even then, they feel so loose
that I think if I turned them over they would just fall right off. The power LED one was the same
way.
Seriously thinking about removing the black piece and just tack-soldering them in place.

Oh, just noticed your board says 1.1, mine is v1.2 so....
EDIT: Never mind - found J8, it's in between the SD cards...
EDIT2: I do need to find out what everyone else is using to mount
their internal US's with, to the hard drive cage. Straight bolt up, or does the US board need
to be shielded from the hard drive metal cage? How much space between, etc, etc... Also
need to know what adapter was used to go from the larger molex to the smaller one for the
US's P/S. Would be nice to see some pictures, including the header that was put on J8, and
it connected to the LED (BTW, did you get it working?)
Thanks much!

Says that Atari Legend made a hdd patched version, but I'm not sure if you have to log in first on that page to get access to downloads, or what, because I'm not seeing it. Trying to create an account, but my email is deciding to load slowly now of all times...
I couldn't find a way to download it either...

I sent a PM to PPera. It looks like he's going to do the conversion.
He was asking about copy protection - the only thing I remember is
the first disk, you could copy the Play disk, IIRC and I don't remember
anything else?
Thanks.

Congratulations!

Argh, like I thought - all the Ultima V files I had stuck away in an archive
are for emulators, or MSA'ed up to give 2 floppy disks like the originals.

Hmm, and that's all? I did notice that in one state the top green LED goes dark when a caller is online,
and in the other state it blinks...
Thanks for the reply!
