Does anyone know if there is an extension cable that will let you plug into the second SD card slot and bring it out, to say, somewhere on the back VME panel or a modified HD cover? That way you could run with one card as your main HD, so to speak, and the other one accessible externally. I know that both are hot swappable, but I don't feel like having to lift the HD cover every time I want to access a card. Thanks.

Ha! I like the way you mounted yours. Been trying to figure out how I'm going to do mine...

There is definitely a difference between Lotharek US models. On mine, the internal model, J8 is, without question, between the SD cards:

Has anyone contacted Lotharek to find out what's what about J8 and LEDs? Be nice to get that sorted out....
-
I think it's all good - I can find difficulty in *any* undertaking.
-
Please don't take that as criticism, it wasn't! I've got fumbly (is that even a word?) fingers and these things are usually my fault. No header on the US yet, have to check out all the options there and get everything together before I install it. Negative on the multicolor LED, was trying to get everything else sorted out first. Not to fear, it's lying right beside the green and yellow, next to the hard drive cage.

Hmm, trying to figure out what this guy did with his LED and internal US...

I think the length will still be fine. Okay, about testing. As it turns out, once I got the hard drive cage apart and cleaned everything, the original holder is still solid on mine. It appears that the goop/paint/insulation that they put on the holder did its job - mine isn't rusted at all (although the original grommet is rotted badly, and that made me think the whole thing was kaput). So I was able to just take one of the black grommets you sent and replace everything and it worked fine. I'll hang on to to the new holder replacement in case it ever does rust out. Now, from what I could judge, it certainly looks like if the encircling end of the original holder was rusted away, that your new holder would slip over it and function fine. I did slide it on mine just to see, but of course it wouldn't go far enough because the piece was still whole. My humble opinion is that it will work great with Mega STe's where the holder has rusted away. If I had to gripe about -1- single thing (and it's not really a gripe, more like a vexed observation), that would be those darned connectors. I'm having a devil of a time getting a solid connection with them. I have to manually push the red and black wires just as far as they can go, as hard as I can, to the ends of the black piece, trying to get them to work. Even then, they feel so loose that I think if I turned them over they would just fall right off. The power LED one was the same way. Seriously thinking about removing the black piece and just tack-soldering them in place.

Hmm, looking at my internal US from Lotharek - it seems the layout is different. I must be blind because I can't find J8 anywhere. I do have an S2 where your J8 is. Oh, just noticed your board says 1.1, mine is v1.2 so.... EDIT: Never mind - found J8, it's in between the SD cards... EDIT2: I do need to find out what everyone else is using to mount their internal US's with, to the hard drive cage. Straight bolt up, or does the US board need to be shielded from the hard drive metal cage? How much space between, etc, etc... Also need to know what adapter was used to go from the larger molex to the smaller one for the US's P/S. Would be nice to see some pictures, including the header that was put on J8, and it connected to the LED (BTW, did you get it working?) Thanks much!

I couldn't find a way to download it either...

I sent a PM to PPera. It looks like he's going to do the conversion. He was asking about copy protection - the only thing I remember is the first disk, you could copy the Play disk, IIRC and I don't remember anything else? Thanks.

Congratulations!

Argh, like I thought - all the Ultima V files I had stuck away in an archive are for emulators, or MSA'ed up to give 2 floppy disks like the originals.

Sounds like a good start. Good luck!

Telnet BBS download problems....
DarkLord replied to DarkLord's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Okay, been playing around (again!) and have had some odd but interesting results. Setting the UDS-10 on the BBS to disconnect mode 00, 40, 80, or 81 results in extra letters on the callers screen, as well as doubled letters in places. The script file I use to detect incoming ANSI terminal emulation does not work correctly with these modes either, although that part has me completely baffled. Also, the major point, downloading doesn't work either - it still times out. Time out on the callers screen and BBS Express reports "too many retries". This is with Ztelnet under Kubuntu Linux, the shell under Windows 7, and TAZ on my Mega STe. Oh, the UDS-10 on the Mega STe was changed each time to match the disconnect mode on the BBS with the same results. Changing the BBS's UDS-10 back to disconnect mode C0 makes the ANSI script work again and the doubled and extra character problem go away. It also works for downloads with Ztelnet under Kubuntu Linux as well as a couple of other apps on the Mac and Win7 and Win10 that some people have previously reported (not the shell). The good news is that, I've figured out how to get TAZ to download successfully like this. When you pick zmodem and begin the download on the BBS screen, right click from TAZ's main menu to get the configuration menu. Pick Receive Files and then hit "E" for external and it will then download like a champ with no errors. I just downloaded about half a dozen files to my Mega STe with no problems at all like this. When I've got a little more time I'll try ANSITerm and FDT to see if there are ways to get them to work as well (if someone doesn't beat me to it). Thanks, just wanted to let everyone know that I hadn't forgotten about this issue and that we've made some small progress, at least. -
It is, I actually had one for a while and like them a lot. I just don't have enough experience with one to offer Leech any solid advice, but I hope someone else does.

Stock/from the factory, yes. Fortunately, some very gifted and talented individuals have given the time and effort to modify a ton of games to run from HD as well as later TOS versions and RAM combinations. Here are a couple of links - unabashedly browse to thy hearts content!: http://www.8bitchip.info/atari/ https://www.exxoshost.co.uk/atari/games/dbug/dbug1.htm https://demozoo.org/groups/2172/

I'll look through my archives and see what I can find. Seems like I've got something, somewhere, although I'm sure a lot of the files are for those danged emulators.

Faster than a speeding "grommet"? Sorry, just had to "LED" with that line... PS Love Amazon Prime, BTW.
-
What about the hard drive adapted versions for the Atari ST? Does MIDI work okay with those? If so, that would seem to fit your criteria....
-
Coolness. Got the package in the mail today. I'm off the next 2 days so I'll see what I can get done. Thanks.
-
Lotharek still makes/sells them. https://lotharek.pl/productdetail.php?id=47 https://lotharek.pl/productdetail.php?id=48 Check his store out - he's got lots of great stuff there.
-
Thanks again for all the hard work on these items!
-
Right, that's it - better make it 2 HDD holders though, in case I get all fumble-fingered and mess one up. Thanks! PS Reason for all the LED's is I'm going to experiment with them, see which one I like best then keep the others as backup/spares.

Yes, yes, yes! (did I mention "Yes!"?). Send it straight away. Just got the internal US and adapter in so I can hook it all up at once. Thanks!
