  1. Ah geez....never mind. <sheepish grin> I had tried plugging the UDS-10 into modem 2 and the serial port in the VME slot but that didn't work either. I had also tried changing the serial CPX to modem 2, etc, but again, no go. Just now, for some random reason (desperately trying anything) I changed the comms setting in TAZ from modem1 to serial1 and it instantly connected... Go figure.
  2. Got a bit of a puzzle going on here. I hooked up a newly setup Lantronix UDS-10 to my Mega STe today, with the intent of connecting to my BBS and experimenting with the download issues we've been seeing. Unfortunately, I couldn't get it to connect with TAZ at all. "NO CARRIER" is all I get. I took the UDS-10 and hooked it up to my STacy, which I used to make a video that I posted on youtube some time back, showing me connecting to my board. Boom! Instant connection, no problem. This is using no RSVE stuff in the AUTO folder, the serial CPX - set to modem1, 19.2k, 8N1, flow control off and using the UDS-10 settings that I did back then. So...I went back to the Mega STe and made sure that it was setup *exactly* like the STacy and tried again. Same thing - NO CARRIER. Keep in mind, I can log into the UDS-10 by telnet from my Win7 box, or my Linux laptop, no problems. I can also do the "XXX" at startup with the Mega STe and it connects, so there shouldn't be an issue about the Mega STe talking to the UDS-10 or the UDS-10 not making it onto my LAN. I updated the UDS-10 with DeviceInstaller under Win7 and the latest ROM and that worked fine too. I'm using a serial cable with the DB9 (I think?) end for the small serial ports on the Mega STe vs the larger size on a standard ST (no adapter). I have it plugged into the first far right hand serial port (from the back), closest to the fan on the power supply. Kinda stumped on this one - any ideas anyone? Thanks.
  3. Was just re-reading my earlier post with pictures and realized I somehow forgot to give a big T H A N K Y O U to Leech for a job well done bringing a much needed replacement item to our beloved Mega STe's!
  4. Forget the 1.44 upgrade. Just not necessary if you get a mass storage device like an Ultrasatan. Format the SDcard for it with the right parameters and you can transfer files between your Atari ST and a PC easily. It's a no-brainer.
  5. Coolness - Now I'll know what to do next time.
  6. Houston, we have a green light, I say again, we have a green light, it's a go! As I posted earlier, got it in today. Good shape, nothing broken. Everything went smooth, just wanted to mention 2 things. First, the LED is a snug fit in the grommet - it popped out on its own 2-3 times. I moistened it, then used a hot glue gun just to make sure it would stay. (yeah, yeah, I used snug, moistened and popped out all in one sentence. All you "The Office" fans please calm down). Second, the connector that plugs into the motherboard is pretty loose. It is staying, but it's just not as tight as I would like <ahem>. I've got the same problem with the LED on the hard drive. In fact, it's so loose now that it won't keep a connection. That post is all rusted up too, just like the main power light one was. Guess we need someone with a 3D printer to make up some replacement kits for that as well. <hint hint> Other than those small details, it's all good. Pretty bright too! Here are a few pictures:
  7. Right, forgot about that - something like $50 minimum, right? I've not personally seen him at Atari Age or Atari Forum in a while, but as you said, he has his own forums which have a fair amount of traffic on their own, and covers some pretty leading edge/exciting stuff like the TF accelerators.
  8. This question seems to come up quite a bit. I agree with the consensus though - because of the STe's enhanced capabilities, I would go with it...
  9. Bruce maybe? I'd say Brad at Best Electronics but I'm not sure about that. As far as Europe goes - Chris Swinson (Exxos) - I'd think would be an obvious choice.
  10. Thanks. No, that card isn't made any more, unfortunately. There was an effort to do a modern version - I think it was called "RePAK" or something like that. Here is a link: http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=24938&sid=badcbd84bdd7d111440013c49ba64e40 No idea what the actual/original color is. Mine had some scratches and fading so I just decided to paint it black. I would like to sand it down and do it again honestly, and try to do a better job (I'm no artist!). I had bought an external model US from Jookie and replaced the original hard drive in the STacy with it, bolting it in. I'm sure I posted pictures here and at Atari Forum covering that (somewhere). I modified the rectangular piece of plastic that normally covers the hard drive, giving me access to the US's slots. Oh, my US also has 2 SD card slots, BTW. You have to be careful with the STacy's screen. There is a row of connections around the outside edge of the screen that should NOT be removed. If you do, you'll wind up with streaks all over your screen. The screen can be taken apart and upgraded without messing around with these connections. I actually wound up powering my replacement EL sheet off of the STacy's original P/S. Seems to have worked fine. (IIRC, it is 12v) Cheaper, but if I had to do it again, I think I'd buy the entire replacement screen if available. Far less chance of doing any damage and from what I've seen, a sure-fire fix for the faded screen syndrome so many STacy's seem to develop. Please do keep us updated on your STacy projects - we just love this stuff!
  11. I'm still experimenting around with this. So far: Ztelnet under Kubuntu Linux Syncterm with a Mac both work fine. As soon as my darned serial cable gets here for the Mega STe, I'll start playing around with Taz, FZDT, ANSITerm, ect on it....
  12. This is good stuff. I did a bunch of upgrades including the internal US like Klund1 as well as installing a Pak 68/3 accelerator board and other things. Great project, great machine! Your documentation is much better than mine. I tend to ramble a lot and it shows in the thread. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FNuHNzOd1o Also, here is a pic with the cover off:
  13. Quick question for anyone who is using an internal Ultrasatan with their Mega STe.... Did you use the original hard drive bay to house the unit? I'm assuming that would be the way to go. Looking at the US units for sale at Lothareks' web site - it says it uses the +5v floppy drive lead - does that mean it disables the internal floppy drive? Thanks everyone.
  14. Ultima 5 really benefits from this. I had a RAM disk in the AUTO folder that did what you are talking about - level/scene changes were often nearly instant, instead of waiting for the floppy disk to read it...
  15. You'll never hear me knock the TT's - they are great machines!
  16. I'm in - I'll take 1 for sure. Thanks for this project, much appreciated!
  17. Okay, posted this on DarkForce, but I'll repeat it here for everyone. I've decided to stay with telnet mode for now. It works so I'm not going to make any drastic changes at this time. That's not to say that I'm giving up or that's the final verdict on the matter. I'm planning on trying again at a later date when I've got more time and have read up a bit on what's what. For now, when I set the UDS10 to 80 or 81 on disconnect, DarkForce's scripts, which are a huge part of its operation, don't work right. Just wanted to update everyone as to where we are. I've also updated the information screen that first appears when you go into the BBS's File Sig areas - it now shows menu item #5, which simply states that files must be downloaded in telnet mode. Thanks everyone for all the help and input - we'll try again at a later date.
  18. Always something eh? Speaking of mice, my son had a Mazda CX-5 when they used to live in a small apartment (rural) complex. They used to park it at night next to a garbage dumpster. One night, him and his wife pull out to go to dinner and the car just dies. Won't restart, won't do anything.. When they got it into the shop (it was still under warranty, fortunately) the mechanics found that mice had built a nest in the wiring harness and chewed through it in several places. They think they crawled in there at night, when the motor was shut off but still warm. PS Good thing about the warranty - total bill was close to $3000.00!
  19. Oh, you don't have a Falcon? Yeah, you'll have to work on that. Really uber cool machines. We're very happy to have you as part of our family.
  20. Nicely done. Wish I had that kind of talent. PS Love the reflective surfaces!
  21. Now that is some seriously cool stuff! Bah, who needs an Amiga and Babylon 5 season one.
