  1. For my messages I started out with an identifier: "The DarkForce! BBS Is Currently..." and then finished it with what's going on: "Is Currently Busy - Please Try Again Later..." Or something similar about "Maintenance".
  2. Have you consideed GFA Basic? It's still ongoing, maintained by the esteemed Lonny Pursell: https://atari.gfabasic.net/
  3. Okay, I downloaded with Ymodem and got just under 500 CPS. Remember, my connectivity sucks. I also tried just plain Xmodem and got a very steady 308 CPS. I was going to try Xmodem-1k but after the 2nd download, instead of displaying "Press <space>", it simply disconnected me. All of this was with SyncTerm under Windows 10.
  4. Half-German? Why, that's cheating...! (you don't know how many times I've wished I knew German so I could read all the docs/manuals with the amazing German hardware/software!).
  5. I tried to connect just now with SyncTerm and could not. It gave a couple of odd character symbols at the onset, with a black screen, but then didn't progress. PS You've got the English docs to HSMODEM, right?
  6. Why am I having culinary flashbacks involving a TOS'ed salad running through my head?
  7. Ah, I'm sure you'll get around to it, by and by...
  8. Well, glad you got it working. Be a shame to let a SC1435 go to waste and collect dust.
  9. Hmm, your Mega STe actually has TOS v2.05 and not v2.06? I think most people upgrade that to v2.06. My memory is fuzzy but I seem to recall some issues (various) with TOS v2.05 vs v2.06. Some research on that might be warranted. As for the AUTO folder. What hard disk driver software are you using? If it's HDDriver, there's an option in it to increase your folder limit and avoid the "folder 40 bug", so there would be no need for FOLDR100.PRG. That will depend on what you're using though. Now the big thing - pretty much everyone I know that does anything involving the ST's serial port uses HSModem. It's the gold standard for dealing with all the bugs and flaws with the ST's serial port. You'll want the English version. As for POOLFIX and CACHExxx, you don't need those with TOS v2.06 and modern hard disk driver software. v2.05 might be something else - I've never used it. Here's a link with some TOS guidelines: https://atari.st/content.php?type=t&file=toslist Hope this helps...
  10. Successful logon this evening. Thanks for verifying/updating me. Couple of quick questions - I went to Edit Profile and Options, but couldn't find a way to change my graphics settings - is that not currently available? I did the ANSI test and it worked fine with SyncTerm here. I downloaded a file. It seemed...a little slow using Ymodem. Also, the file, counting the Zip archive, was like 5 folders deep in the archive? Otherwise, it's looking pretty good and seems to have a lot of potential.
  11. There's a couple, depending on what you're thinking of: Gotek/Gotex Greaseweazel HTH's...
  12. For the VT52 graphics files (pictures) that I use with DarkForce!, I always tell callers to use XControl to adjust their colors to something that suits them. Here, I basically change the default green to a more pleasing blue. That gives me VT52 screens like this (otherwise all that blue would be green...ish) :
  13. Exxos's Online Store used to sell the JeST? (I think that was it's name. I have one for my STacy. It's basically a Playstation 2 joypad adapted to the ST...
  14. For me, it would not be so much individual titles (although it is ) but making sure that you've have a good selection for each category of game. So you'd want some in RPG's, some in Shooters, some in Action/Adventure, at least 1 really good text adventure, etc, etc,... I'm just throwing this out there because in general, I personally couldn't care less for an ST/STe "mini". Show me a full sized remake with modern connectivity (and interfaces) and you might tweak my interest a bit...
  15. SyncTerm works great on my Kubuntu Linux laptop.
  16. About 1999 or so, I built a 486 PC and installed Mandrake Linux. Oh, I did keep my Atari's though...
  17. Haven't had a chance to do anything remotely like that. Just got home a few minutes ago so didn't get to attend the meeting at all. Here, with my TOS v2.06 equipped Mega ST, it's and HDDriver v11.xx, it's <control> With my TOS 2.06 equipped Mega STe and HDDriver v11.xx, it's <control> With my TOS v3.06 equipped STacy and HDDriver v11.xx, it's <control> When I get a chance I'll try it with compatibility mode on my STacy (TOS v1.4).
  18. Odd, it's <control> here with HDDriver v11.xx that bypasses everything (ACC's, etc), including the AUTO folder.
  19. Have you tried holding down <control> just after your HDDriver software boots, thus bypassing the AUTO folder? Just a thought...
  20. Is this something that could be 3D printed? I mean, the tech has come a long ways and we're seeing some amazing results as far as replacement parts for our retro machines goes...
  21. I'd be down with that. Anything that eases the frustration factor for people getting into the Atari BBS scene surely can't hurt.
  22. FANSI is a really good ANSI editor for the ST, if you ever decide to play around with it... It's what I used to create the screens on DarkForce!... HTH's.
