Atari 800 with Encore Video Productions Info Display System
ilaskey replied to Savetz's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Press corresponging letter? Oops. -
Were there two Atari versions of Apshai? I'm sure when I first played TOA it was in basic but the later TOA trilogy was machine code and has much better graphics. Is that right?

Another UKer here. Oddly, back in the day almost everyone I know had Atari's but I guess people tended to clump together like that. Anyway... Star Raiders Defender Mule Boulderdash Mr Do!

Many years ago we bought a disk format converter. It had all sorts of drives and ran cp/m. I noticed the 3 inch drive and asked if they got much call for converting to/from those. The guy said never but the drives were cheaper than a blanking plate.

God I wish I lived in the US, so much stuff for sale and so cheap compared to the UK.

Atari's Landfill Adventures, I now have the proof it's true.

Atari's Landfill Adventures, I now have the proof it's true.
ilaskey replied to Spud's topic in Atari 2600
Given the book was based on interviews with people involved at the time and referenced Atari's own documentation and local newspapers, I'd say it was pretty solid. To quote the NYT at the time "The company has dumped 14 truckloads of discarded game cartridges and other computer equipment at the city landfill in Alamogordo, N.M. Guards kept reporters and spectators away from the area as workers poured concrete over the dumped merchandise. An Atari spokesman said the equipment came from Atari's plant in El Paso, Tex., which used to make videogame cartridges" You could argue if this was overstock of cleaning out a site using the cheapest method but it seems pretty clear to me. -

Except it was nothing to do with overstock or ET. It was just a warehouse/factory being cleared out prior to retooling. We already know this, why is it even being debated on this site of all sites? -
So basically exactly what Curt & Marty said in their book last year... it really annoys me how much disinformation the media is pushing out on this/

What I don't understand is why the media is paying so little attention to Curt & Marty's book which pretty much clears all this up? The amount of disinformation around the dig is embarassing. -
ANTIC the Atari 8bit Podcast is now available
ilaskey replied to Subby's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Did anyone else notice a deep hum through one long segment? The sound in general was pretty muddy, someone had a duff mic maybe too. Good interviews again. How about interviewing Bradley @ Best? Might be interesting to hear how he got all that stuff! -
Story Bundle - Book Deal...

It's worth buying even if you have the printed book as the photos are so much better in the eBook version. -
Welcome to the UK's problem, all our PCs do that in reverse until we set the keyboard to UK from the default US one.

Modems connect via the serial port.

That got chopped off. A 1275/300 baud modem on his 8bit Atari

Barclays in the UK had a pilot home banking system which I'm pretty sure predated that one. It used prestel/vudata graphics and my friend used to access it on a 1275/

Atari World & Atari Computing Mags now online
ilaskey replied to exxosuk's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
I run a seedbox so I can easily leave them running 24/7 if needed. Shall I set up the ones already posted? -

Just a thought, why not make them available as torrents? That would take the load off your server pretty quickly. -
Atari World & Atari Computing Mags now online

I 'donated' my copy along with Jaguar EPROM carts and other unusual bits to some guy in ireland that was supposed to be affiliated to the Curt's Atari Museum. He did run a big Atari web site but it's gone now. Anyway, it wasn't anything particularly bad but probably beyond the pale for a computer mag and WH Smith refused to touch it so all copies got recalled and stickers put on the offending pictures. -
Atari World & Atari Computing Mags now online

Yeah, I saw that but assumed if a thumbnail was there, it was good to go. Will try later and thanks for doing these. Looking forward to Atari World as I was a contributor so it would be interesting to see those again. Especially issue 3 that nearly sank us before we'd got going. I had an uncensored contributor copy but all the ones that made the shops had stickers covering some pics. -

Enjoying the ACs, never really saw those first time round although lots of familiar names in the contributors. I noticed issue 1's first published letter was from me. Don't remember writing that at all! -

Scrap that, I can see the scans folder and the pdf files but it's a permissions error when I open them. -

I'm getting 404's on all the Atari World ones? -
Also, if anyone is interested, merak is out now on DVD. Still got my VHS copy though.
