1. Much like everyone else, I find the rarity guide on AA facinating. Perhaps I just enjoy statistics even on a basic level. However, it struck me that I have no reference to what it means.  :|

So I was wondering, if an Atari cart was released with only 1000 carts produced, where on the scale would it be?

I would really like to hear the answers from both collectors and AA admin alike on this question. I also am aware that there is more than just production figures involved, but this still remains the main factor.

    899455

It's believed that most of the rarity 9 games had production runs in the 1,000's at minimum. Here's my estimation:

    Rarity 1 >500,000

    Rarity 2 >250,000

    Rarity 3 >125,000

    Rarity 4 >100,000

    Rarity 5 <100,000

    Rarity 6 <75,000

    Rarity 7 <50,000

    Rarity 8 <25,000

    Rarity 9 <10,000 (usually)

Rarity 10 <5,000 (5000 would be a maximum for sure!)

Keep in mind, I pulled these numbers out of my ass! There will always be exception too.

It would likely be a 9 or 10. Open to argument though. It also depends if the game was readily avaialable in stores or not. Quadrun was, tooth protectors was not. But they still have the same rarity. As far as I'm concerned, there was never more than 1,000 or any rarity 10 game sold (or given away). They would show up way more often.

  3. Cool pictures, hope you're able to get them all up and running someday.  A sit down Stunrunner would be a great game to have, and lots of fun.  Those were the days of original arcade games, unlike the repetitive drivel (for the most part) that floods arcades in the present day.

    ..Al

    892635

I know what you mean. Same rehashed crap over and over again. Also, the stunrunner is the only game that has problems. The others work great. Just cosmetics for the most part. ;)

  4. My friend Bill calls me on the phone a few days ago and says...

This guy from 10 years ago calls me back who used to be an arcade operator and says to come and look at his stuff. Okay outside there is a torn up Michael Jackson's moonwalker that has been there for what looks like years and a bunch of other arcades inside that have also been neglected. No big finds yet. He spots a Black Night pinball and some other Jamma games. Then he asks the question "How much for this stuff?" Answer: "You can have whatever you want as long as you clean it all out of here!" (This isn't even the good part still.) He strips down the MJM cabinet for parts and brings back with him a box full of 50+ neo geo games all with their origional US labels and mini marquees!

He heads back today for a second round... Now keep in mind this guys place is disgusting with fleas and cat piss everywhere...

So today he calls agiain and says to me "You won't believe what I found." I say What? "He had a complete vectrex collection hidden under a bunch of stuff." "COMPLETE?" "Yes! Everything is there boxed and with the 3D glasses!" My jaw hits the floor.

Now the first part is believable but how damn lucky can you be in two days? Roughly 10 arcade games, 60 MVS carts, and a complete vec collection? Ugh> :!: :lust:

  5. Petty ironic

    Plaque Attack totally without Actiplaque.

    Hhhhmmmmmmm.....

    888406

There have been a ton of sealed Plaque Attacks floating around out there, making it one of the easiest to find mint.

As for the other Activision games, it seems that Skiing, Starmaster, Tennis, Fishing Derby, Dragster and Barnstorming are the most common to find with excellent labels. The others are hit or miss.

I think the most difficult to find clean are Robot Tank, Pressure Cooker, Spider Fighter and Crackpots.

    888414

Yes, Pressure cooker and cosmic commuter are near impossible to find mint unless they are complete or sealed.

  6. I have one CIB copy of:

Tengen Tetris (box has shelf wear)

    Action 52

    Hatris (a cool Tet clone)

    Galaxy 5000

Bible Buffet (appears unused but not shrinked...complete w/unused playbook)

    Sunday Funday (BNIB)

Aladdin Deck Enhancer and every released cart

    Thanks,

    Steve

    PM sent.

  7. I haven't looked though my collection in ages since moving over to classic arcade games but I recently hooked my Atari 2600 back up and pulled out the boxes of games.

    Rarest stuff:

    * Boing! (both Xonox-style and square cart) plus box

Halloween (no label, boxed -- part of the infamous Jimmy Redd stock -- no smell :D

Smurfs Save the Day and all of the tapes

    * Berenstain Bears (new in box)

Rescue Terra I (new in box)

    Video Reflex

    and my Holy Grail...

    * Coke Wins/Pepsi Invaders, new in a sealed box (also found another sealed, an open boxed copy and a loose one at the same time -- those extras are all gone unfortunately)

    * = thrift scores

    Chris

    884348

I call dibs on the next one you find in the thrifts!!! ;) :D

PM me when you have found it.

    884354

Um, correct me if I'm wrong but atariage doesn't even have a scan of the coke wins box. Could you scan it? I'd really like to see what it looks like.

  9. Atari didn't shrinkwrap games until the late 80's.

    881209

Is this correct. I thought it was the early 80's. Can anyone verify...

    Thanks

    881545

    I have a defender from 1982 that's sealed.

  10. You think I am funny? Funny like a clown?  :ponder:

    880634

    You don't amuse me.

I think it's safe to assume Eric has what he says he has. He's sold several now, mostly opened boxed, tested NTSC, and all have been NTSC. The winning bidders seems happy with what they bought. I think everyone accepts them as NTSC. How many out there, we still don't know. Maybe never will.

I don't think these high prices will stay for long though, not if anyone hopes to sell. I guess Tempest is still holding on to some too, and at a better price than Eric. It really depends on what you need, and can afford to spend. I know I tried inquiring into the numbers of these stacked on the backporch of Eric's pad but no dice.. He had pc problems, or at least so much he told me, then when he was back he never anwsered my questions. That's alright though. I was just curious about the numbers. I was really hoping to see if I would be able to get a better deal. If he still had several sets, and once I discussed Matt's price, then see if Eric wanted to come off that some.. as I was serious about purchasing. I wasn't getting anything out of Eric, so I decided just to buy from Matt. And I'm happy with what I bought. I'm no longer in the market for these two games though, they are scratched off my want list.

I think the number of collectors willing to spend this kind of money on those games is relatively small. I believe the bulk of the collectors willing to spend have already picked up. Maybe a few are holding back, just hoping top see some lower prices, but not many out there are going to spend that much on a game so common in PAL format. I believe alot of collectors may just be content with a Pal copy on the shelf. And then most of the PAL collectors who are hardcore 2600 collectors, probably aren't in the market for NTSC versions of the same game, well maybe one or two crazies out there, who feel one is rarer than another. :P But most pal collectors would never consider throwing $500+ at a game that they already own complete for $25 So it's a limited market, just within the US for the most part. And how many are willing to spend that much on a single game, I believe is low..

    880731

Anyone who has been around this hobby long enough has a pretty good idea of who is willing to pay $500+ for a single Atari 2600 game. There aren't that many collectors who are willing to pay that much. I have to agree with you that for the most part anyone who is willing to pay that much for these two games have already bought them. At this point in time there is a larger supply than demand at $500+ for these two titles. I would be interested in getting both titles for my collection but my 2600 collection is far from complete. If I was down to needing only these 2 games to complete my collection I would pay a lot, but at this point the most that I would pay for these two titles would be about $200 each for my personal collection. The people who hold these won't disclose how many they have. If someone found a case of these the true market value could be $100 or less based on how many people are active in this hobby. Even if there are only about 10-15 of each of these titles around that have not been sold my guess is that the price will drop because there are not another 10-15 people willing to pay $500+ per title.

    880737

    Well said, I agree 100%. :)

  11. LOL, first you critisize me and now you take my advice. Good to know someone is paying attention though. You never answered my other question though. I don't believe for one second this is the only copy you have left. ;) Oh wait, you don't have to answer b/c I'm being rude.

  12. Either Custer's Revenge boxed or Halloween for rarest release.

Also have Defender and Realsports Volleyball Lab Loaner carts.

    879176

Yeah, I am realizing that this question is hard to answer with certainty. I mean, if you have two rarity 10 carts, or a large collection of unreleased protos which is rarer?

    879228

    No one cares Matt.

    ------------------------------------

My rarest is cakewalk - Pal R-8

    879240

What in the hell is wrong with you?
