Cool item. I think that Marco sold one last year to someone here on atariage IIRC.

Some very good points here. I just wanted to add that if you think of what you yourself would be willing to spend on any given item today, you'd have to think that at least one, possibly more, "new collectors" years into the future will offer much more for that same said item. I've been actively collecting since '98 and have had a blast. I wouldn't "trade" it for anything. Not even a boxed lochjaw. I know for a fact that I can name 5 games that 5 years from now I will NOT own. I'm just not that lucky OR rich. Also, I can attest that my desire for these games will not deminish in the next 5 years. I'd like to add them to my collection. Therefore, their value in my eyes will at least stay the same and in some cases be even higher in the future. I like to think of this as a revolving door. Look at it this way. All the rarities are out there somewhere. Nothing ever phsically changes. Only our perception of what is rare or has a certain value changes. The more collectors that enter the revolving door, the more wants there are. The more carts that enter the door, the cheaper they become. Now, which do you see more of going into that door? The collectors or rare carts. Lets face it, rarity 9's and 10's are never going to be falling from the sky no matter how many trees you shake.

Well, keeping with the thread, I'd say cannon man is more of a 6 or 7. Certainly not an 8. I've owned two loose copies over the years and both were around $10 plus shipping.

They probably haven't gotten around to it yet. But, you never know. BTW, I still haven't been able to find these instructions. The last telesys ones I need.
-
Not sure if it's the rarest I have but, it's certainly the most valuable... A sealed fire n' ice for NES.
-
One on ebay that Adam H. bought quite a while ago. Another one in a private sale @ Phillyclassic.

I just wanted to state that if you don't find the sticker, I wouldn't consider this one boxed. Just state cart+instructions. I know you're not trying to mislead anyone but I have 5 boxes jut like the one pictured. Also, this one isn't worth anywhere near that much. I mean, the two complete lochjaw's I've seen for sale both have sold for under $1,000.

Mine was at a funcoland for .99 cents.

Not true. The PAL NES game crack out is compatable with it. I know cause I tried it. BTW, crackout is an arkanoid rip-off but, it is pretty fun in it's own right.
-
It was a printing error. I have the same cart Joust cart. If it works on a TV that doesn't like PAL, it is NTSC. I've had mine dumped. BTW, found mine in a pawn shop with 75 other NTSC games.

I have a space shuttle made by ULOC. It's an activision pirate of the same game. They just changed the logo.

Yup, tapper has stickers on the front of the box too.

Complete Kid Vid Voice Module w/Smurfs Save The Day

What do you guys think a good price for a kid vid unit, home made cable, dubbed audio tapes, and SSTD cart would be? -
Just wanted to let you know ahead of time that 10 years from now, your mission will probably still not be complete. You have to really be in it for the long hall if you seriously want to accomplish this. Not only mentally but also monetarialy.

I have a take on this and I'm sure I'll be tared and feathered for it... It seems to me that the reason that a lot of people would have a tendancy to collect label variations in the first place is the nature of the 2600's library of games. Look at how many games were released by two or more companies? Those releases could be considered by some to be label variations, some would see them as a different released game (I do), and some would see it as both. So, I guess my real question is, what is the fun in collecting multiple versions if the only difference is a spelling error or a different color font? Seems redundant to me. I wanted to state that I don't think collecting for different companies is redundant simply because the 2600 has so many companies to collect for AND there is usually different artwork on the labels when a game is released by two unique companies. For example, Sears and Atari, Coleco and Atari. But you can keep your text and color label variations. Those descrepencies are for the birds.

I never could find an ntsc Glacier Patrol for the life of me.

EGM to 10 systems of all time...no 2600?!

BTW, that was MICROVISION. Damn typo. -

I just can't bring myself to include pong on the list. It was more of an MIT homebrew project that had countless pirates. It was way before there was any kind of structure to the industry and I would argue that the industry would have still occured if pong had never been. Spacewar anyone? I would be inclined to place pong in that "footnote" category. Pong was addictive but you don't see people mentioning mincrovision over gameboy because it was first do you? -
Well, I've still have yet to get any response. My offer is right there with what tempest suggested...

Yeah, I remember a pic of it too. It was sold on e-bay for what I thought was a rediculous amount of money.

MattG/Snyper2099 replied to Lord Helmet's topic in Atari 2600
Yup. Unfortunately, a lot of the trends started by the PSX weren't good ones, but that doesn't mean it's not influential and important. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean that it doesn't have a historical place. I don't like Hitler, but that doesn't mean he wasn't an important historical figure. Are you loopy? I ranked the PSX 3rd on my list. -

Also, Intellivision CAN'T be on this list. If you have to ask why, you'll never know. -

I don't really know what this means. The PSX made developers think they could port arcade games? Or the opposite? It doesn't really matter though, because neither statement is true. The PSX had a lot of arcade ports, but then so did the Atari 2600, the NES, the Sega Saturn, the Genesis, and pretty much every single other system that came before. It also had a lot of original games, but then so did the Atari 2600, the NES, the Sega Saturn, the Genesis, and pretty much every other system again. So I don't think it's at all accurate to say the PSX was revolutionary either because it was good for arcade games or because it was good for original games. I might include the PSX on my list, but it'd be somewhere down near the bottom of the top 10. It was the system that really "popularized" 3D, but it wasn't the first 3D system, it wasn't the first CD system, and it spawned a lot of bad industry trends that I actually hate it for (like the sequelitis that continues to plague us). It was an important system but in the end it was more evolutionary than revolutionary. It just happened to be more popular than most systems. I also don't see how you have a "top 10" without considering the "best" along with the most important (I cut your quote out, but you said "best" doesn't matter). I mean playing games is supposed to be fun after all, so you can't just look at these things objectively. And it's only over a period of time that you can go back and see if the games really still hold up or if you were just blinded at the time by technical feats or marketing - a lot of games that were really popular at the time don't hold up today. With all that in mind, this would be my "top ten" (taking a variety of factors into account): 1. Atari 2600 2. NES/FamiCom 3. Game Boy (all versions) 4. Genesis 5. SNES/Super FamiCom 6. Coleco Vision 7. Intellivision 8. Sega Saturn 9. PlayStation 1 10. PlayStation 2 I feel pretty good about that list. Dude, the PSX along with the PC killed the arcade scene. That is what I meant. There is no such thing as an arcade anymore. Everyone knows this by now... -

MattG/Snyper2099 replied to Lord Helmet's topic in Atari 2600
Historically, there's no way the SNES would be in the top three. Gameboy,NES, and the Atari 2600 are the top three for sure. I would say PSX should be 4th. Here goes: 1. Atari 2600 2. NES 3. Game Boy 4. PSX (this really broke the thinking of developers to say "Look what is possible, now we can port arcade games to a home based system!") 5. Genesis (should be here b/c they really pushed Nintendo to make something better) ((Nothing else beyond this really matters so this space is left blank on purpose.)) --It's no mistake that the libraries of the above systems represent over 3,500 games. This is NOT counting foreign releases either.-- NOTE: These are not my favorite systems, or the ones that are the best, or any of that irrelevant BS. This is simply the way it is and people will just have to accept it, even if the Vectrex or SNES is you "favorite" or "was the coolest". BAH!
