  1. When I was a kid (1985 ish), I had Smurfs save the day, complete with the kid vid, all the cassettes and all that jazz along with Tapper, Pitfall 2, Gremlins, and a couple of other 5's or 6's as far as rarity goes. Well, you guessed it! When I was 10 (1991) I sold all of it at a flea market for $20 so I could buy the SNES.

Now, how stupid was that one?

Sidenote: I now have everything I did when I was a kid as far as the 2600 goes except for the kid vid module and the smurfs cassette tapes.

Also, another time I bought a bunch of rarer 2600 carts from a guy for $10 each. I ended up sending him $160 for 16 games or something like that. Anyway, one of the games (Gremlins) turned out to be DOA (dead on arrival). I told him the cart wouldn't work and he said I could choose anything I wanted out of his collection to replace the defective cart. (You can see where this one is going...) He offered me an Off Your Rocker with a "homemade" label as he described it. I remember saying "I don't want anything with a homemade label." Well, there goes big ass 2600 mistake number two!

Man, I know Off your rocker isn't THE most valuable cart but, I still don't own it to this day and it isn't a cheap one. Maybe this year in Philly though. :)

  2. Ok, I'm confused on this one. I read the other da vinci post in it's entirerty and I need someone to help me fill in the blanks.

Can you use the da vinci board without a vcs console? If so, what power supply does it require? Are there video out ports? Can you connect controllers to the pcb? What kind of interfaces are there on the board to download games from a PC and vice versa (9 pin serial, printer port?)? How in the hell would you connect a supercharger/tape player/da vinci cart/2600 system to work together? And, is the target price still $150?

Any additional info would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, this project looks very good! I am seriously interested in learning much more about it and ordering one.

  3. I just wanted to mention that most Tigervision games will NOT fit into an Atari 7800. The plastic posts inside the carts are too long and the pcb can't make contact with the cart slot. You could cut the tabs out but, that's more of a personal preferance because most Tigervision carts are very cheap...

  4. @tony

The atari red label games in question were available for a very short time from atari directly. They were never sold in stores to anyone's knowledge. I know they didn't sell these games as PAL in the US. The atariage member bfstats has shown me reciepts from 1990/91 when he ordered Motorodeo and Ikari Warriors from Atari. They are NTSC. I'm not saying they made the carts one at a time, I'm simply saying they ONLY made how many were ordered from mailorder which aparently wasn't many at all. I think the production run of these games was between 1,000 and 3,000 but, this is just an estimation.

  5. I'm missing these US based, released atari brand games:

    Road Runner

    BMX Airmaster

    Motorodeo

    Ikari Warriors

    Waterworld

Quadrun (although I have a non-best elec's proto of this)

    Obelix

I thought for a long time that BMX, Motorodeo and Ikari Warriors didn't exist as NTSC but, another Atariage member has convinced me that Atari only made as many copies of these as were ordered back in 1989. That is why they are so hard to find now. They were essentially mail order only titles. I do own most of the above in PAL format so, at least I can play them if I really want to. There is also a place where I can get a NTSC road runner for $20, I just haven't gotten around to it. The above has taken seven years of collecting.

It's kind of strange that I also need exactly 7 atari 7800 games as well, for a complete collection. I hope 7 isn't my lucky number for very much longer. ;) ;)

  6. Man, my luck lately has been unbelievable! Today at Goodwill I got a motherload of mint in box atari 8-bit games. I've listed details below. There are some real gems here and everything was well taken care of. I know it's really difficult to find a lot of 8 bit carts complete with box. This lot did set me back $40, but it was WELL worth it IMHO. I got:

    Robotron:2084 (CB,no instructions or joystick coupler :()

    Joust (CIB)

    Jungle Hunt (CIB)

    Donkey Kong (CIB)

    Donkey Kong Jr. (CIB)

    Dig Dug (CIB)

    Pole Position (CIB)

    Pac-Man (CIB)

    Congo Bongo (CIB)

    Webster word game (CIB)

    Peanut Butter Panic (CIB)

    Alphabet Zoo (CIB)

    Pitfall (CIB)

    Logic Levels (CIB)

    Fraction Fever (CIB)

    James Bond 007 (CIB)

    Super Cobra (CIB)

    Frogger (CIB)

    Star Wars:Death Star Battle (CIB)

    Popeye (CIB)

There was also 6 cassette games (Ghostbusters,a spell casting game, Kid Writter or something.... anyway those are pretty much crapola besides Ghostbusters.

Also snagged an origional orange odyssey 100 for $5 and it works! This is even better than last week when I found 99 loose 2600 games for $25.

I just can't beleive my luck lately. I'm glad it's happening so close to Philly. Maybe now I can work out some trades. :) :) :)

  7. A good friend of mine here in Cincy has every game, instruction, box and overlay for every single games except for 2 boxes. The two boxes he needs are Congo Bongo and Spiker pro volleyball. It has taken him over 15 years to build that collection. Everything is pretty much mint too. It's the most impressive INTV collection I've ever seen in person.

  8. @Icecold,

I'm looking for things on my want list most of all. I do need some LYNX and Jaguar games though, that are not on my list.

The lynx games I want off the top of my head are:

    Robotron

    Rampage

    Ms. Pac man

    Joust

    Klax

    Roadblasters

Missile Command/can't remember what other game was on this cart???

    Double Dragon

    Ninja Gaiden

    Battlezone 2000

Pretty much any arcade conversions on the Lynx.

  9. Bit rot is bull crap! I check all my carts once a year and have only found one bad one. That one could have been a manufacturing error as well. I don't think this is 'most' of the carts out there. I think 'most' cartridge based chips, as long as they are kept from high heat and moisture, are good for at least 100 years. I have gone through 3,000 or so games and for all systems, 4 games came up not working, not cleanable (i tried like hell too). That's like one cart per 3,000 that turned up 'dead' and most of those carts haven't come anywhere close to their "expected lifespan" so to speak. These are odds I can live with.

I do keep all my valuable carts sealed in plasit and then sealed agin in another plastic container with silicone. I don't think I'll have any problems with my protos/carts in my lifetime.

  10. I vote for the glue stick too but, make sure it's acid/toxic free. The gluestick is probably the most universally easy solution for most folks. However, for small "curlings" where a big fat stick won't reach, I use elmers white glue. You have to use a small amount, smear it evenly, and wipe off excess. Fingers work great for this! More work than some would be willing to do but, that elmer's glue is strong! I've never had a label come off that I've used elmer's on. You also have to press down on the label until it dries. Sure, elmer's really is a pain in the ass but, in the end, I think it's the most professional looking job.

  11. My mom was, and still IS quite the tennis player for the 2600. She can whip my ass! If I had to venture a guess on how many hours she has played it, I'd say close to 500. A similar thing happened to me as did tilenterprises above in that, I set up an atari for my mom recently and she played tennis for a few games. Although, she has arthitus now and can't really play that much but, back in the day, she could beat anyone's ass at that game. I mean, it's the ONLY vidoe game she's ever touched except for that golf handheld game. But that's an even longer story... Another post perhaps.

  12. I am looking for trades on all three of these systems. They all come with hook up's ect. except the INTV. They will be available from me in Philly if I can't get anything together by then. I have some 7800 games to go with that system and N64 games I could add to the N64 system as well.

  13. I do buy stuff on ebay quite frequently but, it has to be a good deal. My favorite place to trade, sell, and buy stuff is with members on Atariage and events like Phillyclassic. Everyone knows "what is going on" unlike most ebay dumbasses selling classic games.

  15. Just wanted to let everyone know I think this game kicks some serious ass. And I am not easily impressed. I mean the sound sucks pretty bad but this game is still a blast. Accolade really did a nice one! It was well worth what I paid for it. Now I can't wait to play Ikari Warriors. Which game is better, commando or ikari? I have commando but I don't really think it's all that people say it is.

  16. A SNES power supply works really good as well. I modified one to hook up my spare 7800 just the other night. :) It is a 10v, 0.85 amp power supply. Certainly close enough. Just lop off that ugly grey tip and wire/solder it up. Negative is in the center of the SNES power supply.

I wish I could make it to NECG but it's just too far for me to drive alone. I'll see you guys all in Philly though. :)

Oh, I just wanted to mention that I reorganized my trade page and everthing is alphbetized and I've added some new stuff as well.
