I could get games cheaper for my 2600 and Colecovision - really got to acquire many titles for the CV that way - but I could only find one title (Scramble) in the discount bins for my Vectrex, so between that and Minestorm, that's all I had for the ol' Vec for many years. Like many other people, I got more interested in computer gaming, and I moved away from consoles. No interest in the NES or anything. I did play more tabletop RPGs, trying out systems other than D&D. Video games were still there, just existing with a bunch of other stuff like school and movies and parties and the ladies. Aaaaaaand pretty much nothing has changed.

Anybody ever seen this one? One showed up on eBay 13 Feb 2015 and went for $9.98. I didn't notice that one, but saw a second one, which sold on 23 Feb 2015 for $89.08. I searched for sold auctions and that led me to the first. I asked both sellers (the first in Las Vegas, the second in Baker, CA) about them, and Vegas said it was acquired in a box of stuff from a garage sale, while Baker said it came in a collection purchased from another person. I can't tell if it's the same patch being sold twice, or 2 different patches of the same make. Anyhow, being that I really like Activision patches, I'm very curious about this one.

"Lex Luther" - lol. I like how in all the myriad copyright violations the maker bothered to include citations for the game program, walkthrough, and map.

Amazing Artifacts From the Rise and Fall of Atari
Zwackery replied to Random Terrain's topic in Atari 2600
Something is weird about the mask in the Missile Command box. -
I can think of several CV items that are far, far rarer than a picture of a bosom on the internet.

At least 181 reasons to love my collection

Damn. It's still a nice score. -

That's one of the last 5 grey box variants I need. Nice grab on that BIN. -
Space Invaders, Yars' Revenge, Pitfall!, Cosmic Ark

Actually, the boxes did: International versions of the box did not have the same corner advertisement.

Spacechase (Monogrammed Edition) cib or just cart?
Zwackery replied to high voltage's topic in Atari 2600
Perhaps, although I think this one might trump it: http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-2600-vcs-raiders-of-the-lost-ark_20852.html -
It's really on a case-by-case basis, so you'll need to do research on each particular title. Since you mentioned Mr. Do's Castle, while the game is rare, with this title it is all about the box. The last sold auction for loose cart and manual on eBay was back in November for $57.78 (6 bidders placed 16 bids). When I bought mine loose several years ago, I also paid around $60 for a loose cart and manual. This may be a case where the loose manual would only get you ~$10 because all the value is in the box, so it's a disproportionate situation for collectors. Maybe someone who is looking to complete a set would pay more for a manual, but it varies from situation to situation.

exclusive article from Howard Scott Warshaw on 2600 Connection
Zwackery replied to timdu's topic in Atari 2600
I really appreciate Warshaw's willingness to document and share Atari history and provide context for those days of the medium. I use his Once Upon Atari documentary in my Game Industries & Organizations course. My one quibble is his claim that Raiders of the Lost Ark was "the first movie conversion ever" when both TRON (in the arcades) and Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (by Parker Bros. for the 2600) predate Raiders. "First movie conversion done by Atari" would be enough to clarify the slight exaggeration. -
Spacechase (Monogrammed Edition) cib or just cart?
Zwackery replied to high voltage's topic in Atari 2600
Difficult to say. According to an interview with the programmer, he thinks that less than 10 were made. Arnie Katz's copy has been the only known confirmed monogrammed edition. http://www.digitpress.com/library/interviews/interview_ed_salvo.html -
Actually, I checked on the poster and, assuming his profile is true, he is not some neckbearded fanboy but a reasonably clean cut guy (and apparently homosexual - not that being gay gives one an instant Tim Gunn level of fashion savvy). If there was staining, it just could have been an artifact of the manufacturing process with the reviewer's tie. Occasionally I'll get an article of clothing where the colors haven't been completely set (hence why my mom reminds me to wash all clothes before wearing them for the first time), but I think that is not as common as it once was.

It is a cool tie. My favorite thing in this month's Lootcrate.
-
I personally wouldn't go over €130 given their condition.

Yes, a hell of a deal, and you can see the guy was kind of incredulous that I only wanted one set. I used Google Groups: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/rec.games.video.classic

Ha, found it! Famous Brand Electronics (that should bring back memories for some!) >>THIS WAS POSTED BACK IN NOVEMBER 1994.<< I can confirm this outstanding offer!! Last week I ordered and received via UPS a brand new 7800 in the box with all the trimmings plus an assortment of 40 2600 and 7800 games for $69.00 plus $4.00 shipping and handling to Maryland and $4.48 for tax. Most of them are/were shrinkwrapped! There were only two duplicates and a few were not in the shrinkwrap. This is a great offer. Figure $30 for the 7800 and $1.00 a piece! for the games. What a deal!!!! List of typical games in box! 2600 7800 7800 Gravitar Touchdown Football Commando Battlezone Centipede Ikari Warriors RealSportsBB One-on-One Crack'd JungleHunt Ninja Golf Winter Games Football Jinks ScrapYard Dog Ms. Pacman Asteroids Summer Games DigDug Mat Mania Robotron 2084 Desert Falcon Joust Dark Chambers OffTheWall BallBlazer Ace of Aces Yars Revenge Hat Trick Galaxian Xevious Venture Crossbow Jr.PacMan Millipede Defender II MouseTrap Space Invaders Football The store phone number is 612-730-7375 and their fax # is 612-730-7479 The store manager's first name is Don. They take all major credit cards. The store address is: Famous Brand Electronics 03-1011 Horizon Outlet Mall 10200 Hudson Rd, C-10 Woodbury, MN 55125 If there is anybody considering a new 7800 here is the chance to get a new one without paying the premium prices of the net dealers and a bunch of games to boot! NOTE: Any dealers out there should really think twice before ordering from this store if their intent is to simply profit from the deal with the rest of us. Let the regular folks who simply enjoy playing on their classics have the chance to get in on a public good deal for their benefit and not yours!! Famous Brand Electronics Outlet in Woodbury, MN, has a large supply of *new* 7800s, along with a box of 40 *unopened* games, for $70. I talked with a clerk there on Monday, and he said that they *will* ship to people from the Internet, provided they have valid credit cards, etc. The 40 games are more or less the games Mr. Wilets posted in his auction, found elsewhere in this newsgroup. Note that not all the games are 7800 games. The phone number for Famous Brand Electronics is (612) - 730-7375. Tell them Greg sent you. Okay - we all know the deal - so I thought I would post some interesting news. There are about 12 or so Famous Brand Electronics Outlets in the USA. Since I live in California - I will be placing my order with the one in vacaville, calif. (you - know the Nut Tree place. Here is the information for that location. Phone (707) 447-7085 Famous Brand Electronics Store # 03-1008 Factory stores At Nuttree Vacaville, CA. 95687. Price $69.00 + $5.00 shipping = $74.00 Strange enough - they dont need a 'street address' - Just pointing it to Factory stors at Nut Tree does the trick. (very odd) Call either place to find a location nearest you. I remember them listing off the following states: texas, New york, georgia, new mexico, alabama, and others I forgot. the California store had 25 left when I called.

Hmmm, I don't think it was O'Sheas. (I did buy from them later.) This was a deal that you got a 7800 NIB and a big white box full of NOS 2600 & 7800 titles. IIRC it was pretty cheap for the package. When I called the guy to order a set, his response was "You just want one?!?" But I was just collecting for myself. I'm pretty sure it appeared in rec.games.video.classic in fall 1994. It was like an early Xmas that year.

New to Atari and just received some games. Any of these valuable?
Zwackery replied to claymation's topic in Atari 2600
Clearly he's interested in getting them properly declared on his homeowner's insurance and not asking for flipping purposes. -
I wouldn't go so far as to label it a biohazard, but some people have pretty severe allergies to molds and it would be very unwise to sell it.
-
Well, the 32-in-1 and a few others kind of makes it weird with what I'm going to say, but the mix of those boxed carts sounds very similar to a popular warehouse find that was sold on the internet back in 1994. I have the details on another system, but I know because I bought one set back then. It's actually how I started collecting for the 7800.
-
It would be a very cool addition to an Atari collection.
-
Did someone apply English-language Canadian labels to these carts?
-
I buy up futures in Rice-A-Roni and Pasta Roni.
