  1. I always sweeten the deal by throwing in a free box of Rice-A-Roni. Those pesky resellers can't resist the San Francisco treat.
  2. Tuesdays @ 11pm EST. Sunday evenings are crap, people are watching tv shows or sports, or they are thinking about having to go back to work on Monday. Mondays people go back to work and are getting back into their weekly routine. Tuesdays are best. The routine is back in gear, new media release day has people thinking about games, and people aren't generally distracted by other things in life. Wednesdays are hump days and people are thinking about the weekend. Thursday night is more tv or Thirsty Thursday at the local bar. Friday and Saturday are the weekend and people are more likely to be away from their computers. You want 11pm EST as people on the East Coast are still awake and West Coasters should be home from work.
  3. With this game, it's all about the box. It's a sleeper rarity due to many people not caring about the title, probably a low manufacturing run from Sears, and the fact that you can get the Atari release much more easily. Previous discussions about Sears boxed rarities and Marco's search: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/161876-your-top-5-rare-boxed-sears-games/ http://atariage.com/forums/topic/106957-boxed-sears-math-gran-prix-to-complete-ntsc-collection/ There are a few Sears box variants that are very high on rarity as well, but I don't collect variants so I'm not fully apprised on their value currently.
  4. Since the release of the CV Flashback, I've had to go in and modify all my rare CV eBay searches with a "-flashback" tag because I'm getting deluged with word spammers and their listings.
  5. The seller of the Slurpy box was not OriginalPSP. I did buy a box from OriginalPSP, so between that purchase and holiday gifting, I was not in the bidding for very long. I'm not sure if a Slurpy box in open auction like this would ever slip through the cracks, but it will be interesting to see if other boxes or boxed copies appear. The ones that have shown up seem to be going into collections and not being resold/flipped.
  6. $406.78 for a Slurpy box eBay Auction -- Item Number: 111528704757
  7. Uh, wow. I suppose if you throw enough cash at your collecting, this might be possible, but if you don't have buckets of money, it might take a long, long time. Like years. Even if you offered insane bounties, some of those are rare enough that owners would really think twice before parting with their copies. And they're rare because they really don't show up with any kind of regularity.
  8. Don't forget to pump out the regular air and flood the chamber with a chemically inert gas. Also, avoid exposure to UV radiation. Finally, errant cosmic rays might degrade the program on the cartridge, so storing it below ground is preferable (just not too deep because then you have other radiation issues).
  9. I've only seen pictures (such as on atarimania), but it's kind of weird it has that Atari badge on it.
  10. I sent all the IT folks pumpkin pie. They warmed it over the server farm.
  11. Avoiding retail is good, but shopping on eBay today is okay?
  12. I'm less surprised about this fake fooling a buyer and more surprised that a) one respondent did not know the symbol for Euro and b) another respondent did not know about Parker Bros. 2-piece boxes. This is an epic thread of ignorance.
  13. When I was buying common box lots, I really didn't care about the overall amount of boxes per lot, as I tended to average about $2 per common box and bid accordingly. Of course, I'd modify that somewhat according to quality, the specific titles, and so on. There's probably a sweet spot when it comes to weight/amount of flattened boxes you can pack into a flat rate USPS box, and people will factor in shipping in this regard.
  14. It's the alternate box art for Waterworld: http://www.digitpress.com/faq/vcsalt/cc_vcsalt.htm#sqwaterworld
  15. snagged a NIB grey box variant for Bowling... still looking for these grey titles CIB: Backgammon Blackjack Flag Capture Golf Maze Craze Pac-Man Surround
  16. Ugh, and crappy condition on several to boot.
  17. I haven't bought anything from the site since March 2013. Over the years I didn't spend nearly as much as Crazy Climber (I think I'd put myself somewhere around $2000). I would occasionally have some quibbles about his rating of box quality versus what I thought it was upon actually getting the item, but overall I never had any real problems. Clearly his focus has shifted to eBay sales. If he is not issuing accurate refunds, however, I would not hesitate to let my credit card company know about the situation and put their fraud division on the task of investigating.
  18. The regular versions of the CV, INTV, and Atari 5 were all in my local Wal-Mart as of this past weekend.
  19. Like they said in the 80s, "parts is parts" -
  20. Wow, one item that single-handedly represents the death of Atari and newspapers! Seriously, cool acquisition.
  21. I'm not endorsing this rationale, just passing on what has been explained to me.
