  1. Thanks Emkay, I wasn't aware of the other thread.

It's obvious that the music emulation is better than it was in 3.1.

I don't know if I am just prejudiced to the "real Hardware" but it just sounds better to me.

Great composition by the way. After looping it for the past hour, I can't get it out of my head.

  2. last reply. The same note sounded a lot better later on in in the piece whenit wasn't just held but yet played and relaease in a rythmic fashion with the bass/drum track. Could the held down note pause for a little when the bass line gets kicking and sart a samml bit later so it doesn't appear to be a leftover note from the previous melody.

  3. Also,

I didn't accurately count what measure it's in (maybe the 17th) after the intro - there is note/tone that is held while the drum/bass line starts kicking in that seems to clash. The note just seems like it was stuck from the previous melody and hangs there unitl that channel for the mid range melody is used again. Would it be possible to bring that notes pitch/volume down, distort it in some other way, or have it bounce between a few notes.

I might be just sensitive to it because I used to have a casio keyboard that a certain key would get stuck while playing. And it reminded me of that. :D

Over all I really like the composition, and I think it delivers th feel you were trying to convey.

    ----------------

Bear in mind, I am no composer. So take my advice with a grain of salt. I think I understand the effect you are going for, and it probably fits with what you were thinking.

  4. IMO, It sounds even better on the actual hardware. I have an Atari 65XE with a 5 pin DIN to RCA cable plugged into a Commodore 1702 monitor. (mono audio). The base line has more punch and depth to it on the Hardware. The speed & (pitch for the higher notes) is pretty accurate between the emulator and my hardware. The effects and multiple voices seem to blend better on the actual Hardware. I don't know how to explain it, Except to say it sounds more like one piece of music, whereas the emulator the parts sound seperate of eachother. Does that make any sense?

    Note:

To be fair, I had the emulator playing through my laptops internal speakers and then a pair of stereo speakers, No extra equalization or subwoofer. Perhaps I could tweak my emulator sound settings.

When I coupled the Audio form the hardware to my PC speakers it truly sounded awesome.

Also playing around, I timed the emulator to run a few bars behind the hardware, and it sounded really interesting. The new emulator is definately in tune with the hardware.

  5. Emkay do you have a sample of city limits?

    -------

I'm glad you emphasized using version 4of the emulator. I figured I had the latest release (3.1) and played your tune. I began to worry that you ate some bad shrooms. :P

I never stayed on the news page long enough to see the Beta realeases. Wow! what an improvement. And my windows redraw is 100 x's better. Thanks!

Now the music sounds cool. :music:

  6. I'm really starting to like this game. But, Sometimes I loose a life and I don't understand why. The counter isn't at 0, I don't see anything hit my line, It seems to happen when I am pressing the button to back up. I can't figure it out. (finally got to level 6).

Highscore so far 59570 Pic Coming soon.

  7. From the WEB

A later revision of the motherboard, known as the ROM 3 had a number of significant changes: more ROM (256K vs 128K) on the motherboard, more (1MB vs 256K) RAM on the motherboard, different capabilities for the internal slots, better support for the disabled, and a cleaner motherboard which can result in quieter sound support. The extra ROM allows more parts of the system software to be accessed from there, which allows a ROM 3 to boot and run GS/OS and GS/OS programs slightly faster than a ROM 01. (The two have identical toolbox functionality from the programmer's standpoint, however.)

  8. I am a Network Systems Technician For a public school district. We have literally 30 working Apple II, Apple IIc, AppleIIe, Apple IIgs's that the district will have to pay to get rid of. I'd guess that there is another 30-40 that aren't complete (broken, missing keys, but still have the boards and guts in em). Also have numerous floppy drives cables, printers (not sure if they work) etc... I had setup one of the IIgs's and it worked fine.

I'd try to save them if I had room to store them. They are heavy, but if someone is really interested in one, I could catalog what's there, and you can have it for the price of shipping.

I even have some software, books, manuals for them. I have a box of 5 1/4's that I use for the Atari, they mainly have Cavity Busters, Five Star Forecast, Gm Sunraycer on them.

I wish I knew what happened to the Commodore 64 lab???? (I attended this shool district)

  9. I like some of those mods, but I'm not crazy about all the LED's (I guess it depends on what one finds useful). I don't really care for the labeling job.

I guess it all depends on when the mods were done. If I were to do something like that now, I would probably get a small color LCD display kit - driven by a basic stamp or PIC, rather than all the LED's poking out.

  10. ZEN, great little basic program but it didnt do the trick!!

It's a great little basic snippet, but I can't take credit for authoring it.

That goes to Ion Poole with Martin McNiff & Steven Cook (authors of the book) "Your Atari Computer a guide to 400/800 personal computers"

    ISBN 0-931988-65-9

    ------------------------

More info on it for those who are interested:

It's a great reference, covering a wide variety of topics from hardware, OS, DOS, Basic, Graphics/Sound, Memory Usage etc..

With "useful" code snippets, charts, & diagrams.

There are a large number of "terrible" books on Atari, This one happens to be in the elite category of must haves IMHO.

There are two prints, same ISBN# and Copyright date 1982, the second one includes a Chapter on the XL series (600xl,800xl,1200xl)

  11. Heaven/TQA,

Really looks awesome! I was follwoing some of this in the programming board. I like the how the ball aniation; sprite changes size larger/smaller druing the bounce. Have to love that color pallette!!!

    Great work!

    ===============================================

    A Side Question:

And so as to not take Heaven/TQA's thread "off topic""

If someone would like to answer..

    Just PM me. username: Zenassem

I've been confused as to where A8 coders should, post their projects. The programming board gets cluttered easily with mainly 2600, and then here and there 5200,7800,A8 etc..

Would it be possible to have an A8 projects, coding tips, tools, demos, and specific A8 coding discussions, in a seperate board, like ("A8 Coding Scene")?

  12. Im RAGED just found out that the filp side of the disk was the one that had the programs!!

    :P

Classic! Glad to here it worked.

I'm still wondering about the A side.

Under dos 2.0s sectors 361-368 are used for the disk directory.

I can write up some things to get some info off the disk tomorrow.

Soemone else might be able to confirm this. But I think certain commercial games won't allow you to get a directory of the disk through dos. I think that they don't use the normal sectors for the disk directory. That's why I was asking you if you tried booting it with option held down (disabling basic).

    ==================================

I remember when I got my first 3.5" drive and I ran out of space. Initial response to flip it over :D

Hey at least I didn't get out my notch tool! :D

  13. a2600,

In case your still having trouble. This might help.

    Dos 2.5

Turn on your computer with the Dos disk inserted. (if you have a computer with built in basic ie. 800xl, 65XE, 130XE, or the emulator with basic on boot enabled) you'll be prompted with a ready.

    Type DOS

This will bring up the dos menu. Press "A" for disk directory and press return. Now IF you want a directory of all the files on the disk press return again.

Loading the files depends on what type of file it is. Machine language programs .obj can be loaded with Binary load. If it's a basic program you can choose B to run cartridge. This will bring you back to the ready prompt. Now assuming disk drive 1 you can type

    LOAD "D1:.BAS"

if the program was saved with the save command

if it was saved with the LIST command you would need to load it with

    ENTER "D:.bas"

Here is a basic program that can read the directory of a disk without the need to go into the DOS menu

    10 DIM A$(20)

    20 OPEN #1,6,0,"D:*.*"

    30 TRAP 90

    40 INPUT #1;A$

    60 GOTO 40

    90 END

I have dos XL which has a dir command to list disk files

let me know if this helps

  14. Thanks for the quick responses.

I'll have to download the user's manual.

It's definately a 1040STF no "M". The first few times I went to test it without a floppy in the drive, all I saw was a blank gray box on the screen, and It kept trying to access the drive. So I turned it off and put the language disk in, and up came the Desktop screen. So I just assumed it needs to have a boot disk. It might have something to do with the fact that my drive button doesn't latch well, so it might think that there's a disk in the drive. It booted fine with a blank floppy.

I'm not sure if my monitor is working right but the desktop doesn't utilize alot of the screen. Neither on the sides nor the top. So I have about a 1" 1/2 border on the top and bottom, and a 1" border on the left and right side. There are no adjustements that I can see on the monitor for this. Is this normal?

    What monitor would you recommend?

I also have a Hard Disk connector. Any recommendations fot HDs.

Anything like the 8bit SIO2PC available for the ST?

Is the model I have considered a decent ST?

    Thanks
