  1. Saw this thread risen from the dead... Decided to lead off with this game for the resurrected TAT, (which is now live BTW - Preview time!)

I have this game on my Android tablet. I played it when I first downloaded it and nothing could distract me until I won. I haven't played it since because I know it's too addicting!

My only gripe on Stellar Track is having to scroll through the commands with the joystick. It might have been better if the order made sense! (Galaxy Map, LR Scan, SR Scan, Photon, Phaser, Warp, Status for example.)

  2. Um... Having a friend of mine try to add A/V outputs on my ORIGINAL 2600 I got as a gift for Christmas in 1982. The mod didn't work (although the RF still did) but now my beloved 2600 from my childhood has two gaping holes in the back. :(

  3. Sounds like 3rd Party support for Wii U is done.

Nintendo really dropped the ball with this system. They launched it too early trying to get ahead of PS4 and XB1. Naming it "Wii U" was also a huge mistake and confused buyers. Including a tablet "controller" that drove up the cost of the system was another mistake. Not having a compelling Nintendo title to drive Launch Day sales (other than maybe New Super Mario Bros.) was another mistake. They needed to have Mario Galaxy 3 and Zelda ready on Day One. (And also have Mario Kart Wii U and Metroid ready a few months after.)

I think it's too late for this system. I predict Nintendo will discontinue it within 2 years. They are probably fast-tracking the next system already. Maybe they will learn from their mistakes next time.

  4. Welp, been awhile... And I'm excited to say that TAT is coming back... Very soon now it will re-launch with a new design, new articles, new stuff... So, hopefully you'll come back and check us out again. And join up and contribute some articles / reviews!

Not sure of the date exactly... It's basically ready, I'm just obsessively checking things over. (And if you want a preview, let me know and I'll send you a link. I'd appreciate your comments!)

  5. I think the main difference between the Retron 3 and the Retron 5 is that the Retron 3 wasn't using an Android OS with an upgradable emulator. It was more of a SNES-Genesis-NES on a chip type deal. So if a game didn't work, tough luck, no upgrade was going to help you.

Also, no HDMI or bluetooth controllers or save-states or graphic filtering or CPU throttling for the Retron 3. So, I view the Retron 5 as a significant improvement over the 3.

  6. OMG, is Tempest 2000 really over 20 years old!? That's older than the original Tempest was when Tempest 2000 came out!

I bet this appears on Steam. I'll be getting it then... Might get a Vita for this, but I doubt there's much else I would want to play on it.

  7. Well, since I don't have a SMS, I'd rather play Ninja Golf!

Blows me away how "popular" it's become since it was released. Back then it was just another game Atari used to prop up it's library. I think they would have taken ANYTHING to do that. They weren't picky.

Someone should do a sequel: "Ninja Golf 2: The Back 9" (since there's only 9 holes in the original.)

Anyone ever beat the game? Wondering what the final battle is like...

  8. NES and 7800 are masters of two totally separate genres. 7800 is better at arcade ports with single screens. Take Joust for example. The 7800 version has smoother gameplay and graphics. The NES is choppy with grainy looking graphics. Or how about Ballblazer? Definitely better on 7800. Then there's Robotron 2084... Oh, no NES version. I bet it was because it couldn't handle all the sprites required.

The NES is better at side-scrollers and long term RPGs. "BIG" games. Games that take a long time to finish.

There are no absolutes of course (Dig Dug feels better on NES IMO), but that's my take on it.

  9. Personally... I think the Wii U will either be the shortest lived "next generation" console or Nintendo will go the route of Sega.

The their last gen is our new gen strategy isn't working well anymore.

Well, if they cut the Wii U's lifespan short and create a new better system, Nintendo could leapfrog the power of the PS4 and XBone. Then they could have the most powerful system for a few years. They really need to come up with the next big thing. Cloud-based gaming? Mindlink? Bio-enhancements? Pokemon data pods? (Dunno, just spit-balling here.)

Somehow, Nintendo needs to appeal to the "serious" gamers and not just kids and geriatrics.

  10. If Nintendo does start to publish games on other platforms (!) I'd suggest they start up another company name so that if they turn out bad, the don't tarnish the Nintendo brand.

I also think that if they start doing that, it will be the end of Nintendo like it ended up being the end of Sega when they did it. Mario on other consoles... Just makes it less special.

  11. I think weight and size wins this competition.

Another thing I didn't like is that they were flaky. They seem to break more often than the flatscreens. They start to pop or crackle then give out. Then you'd have to get a new one and then "properly dispose" of the beast that failed. (Or in my case, just stash them in the garage forever. :skull: )
