Reset Atari - makers of GCW Zero trying to buy Atari brand
Gregory DG replied to Amstari's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Interesting. Wish I could just buy the rights to one or two games... I think I'd take Asteroids and Centipede... -
ZAXXON: Atari 2600 vs Intellivision version?
Gregory DG replied to rhindlethereddragon's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Hm... Seems that a true 3/4 perspective of Zazzon on the 2600 would be a good challenge for someone! -
So... what kind of a job do you have that you can put up video game posters like that and still be taken seriously? Lucky.

Neat idea to answer the question, "Where does Pac-Man go when he enters the tunnel?" You could even take that a step further... Imagine a cube. If the main screen is on the front, each time Pac-Man enters a tunnel, the cube rotates to that screen. When a screen is completed, you can no longer enter that side of the cube again.

No, I love red. Since the auction is over and I can't see the pics now, I remember it having a looking very "orange peeled" finish and some over spray marks. I'd much prefer an out of the box factory look to a can of spray paint haphazardly applied. I'm sure you'll still enjoy playing it though.

Ugh, what a terrible paint job!

Wow, is this the oldest thread to ever be resurrected? 8 years 11 months? Wow.

Yeah, I think Cheese Police is Mappy. Also, I think Escalator Panic = Elevator Action, and Angry Star = Space Fury. -

Arcadecraft - micromanage your own 80s arcade
Gregory DG replied to onlysublime's topic in Microsoft Xbox 360
Yeah, that monthly report thing was annoying. Just a rolling status at the bottom would be fine. But having to press A two times each update... Jeesh. And at first, I didn't sell my games to the collector. But later on in the game (and when I figured out he was offering what I originally paid for it) I decided to start selling them. Especially since just selling them regularly would only get you about 25% of the original paid price. Oh, and that blackout thing is annoying. What is the point of going around and resetting all the machines? In real life when the power comes back on so does the machine... -

Holy cow... I just played this game for 4 1/2 hours... Finally got to 1987 and the game ended. I had profited $244,000 dollars (total earned about $600,000.) Yeah, I don't know if I had it on easy or what, but I didn't find it very hard. And they clearly are trying to recreate the early 80's, not just make a generic arcade sim. For example, a game like "Contractor Twins DX" (aka Super Mario Bros.) that is released in 1986 is SUPER popular, so it doesn't matter how much you charge or how hard it is, it will still make you a fortune. I only wish they would allow for more than 30 machines... I kept having to sell off less popular games in order to try new ones. Of course what happens then is that a sequel to the game you sold off is released so you won't reap the rewards of setting them next to each other. Overall, fun game. I hope pinballs are in the next revision! My Tips: Keep the price at 25 cents, make the games easy, get a soda machine (charge $1), coin-out the machines often, buy more games early but fewer as you get closer to the 2 year payoff deadline. I had three months to go and I was sweating it a bit, but I was able to do it pretty safely. After that it's all gravy. -
So, the reviews haven't been kind to the new Aliens game... IGN offers that the Atari Jaguar version is better. http://www.1up.com/features/great-aliens-alternatives-colonial-marines Now, I love me some AvP, but for it to be better than a brand-new game that no doubt has millions and millions more in development is amazing to me. Shoot, not even the Rebellion AvP follow-ups were mentioned!

Are you going to convert them to InnoDB ? I've been using it instead of MyISAM for awhile now...

Tough to choose one... Probably Space Invaders or Adventure.

Loading Times What is the Slowest and Fastest
Gregory DG replied to Classic Pac's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Jeez, I thought load times would be a thing of the past with Xbox 360 and PS3... I'd like to nominate Battlestations Pacific for some horrendous load times. Takes what seems like 60 seconds to load what you think is a cut-scene... Then probably 10 seconds more to load the actual game (yeah, I'm sure it's loading the game in that first 60 seconds.) That doesn't even count the initial load of the menus and your save game at the beginning. Oh, and if you restart the level... Has to load all over again.... Yeah, not the longest of all games, but probably the longest in my collection. Jeesh! -
Atari Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection
Gregory DG replied to carmel_andrews's topic in Modern Console Discussion
So, you don't think Atari Games could have done anything differently to stay in business? On the other hand, Atari Corp. should have been leveraging and expanding their properties from the beginning. -

Gregory DG replied to carmel_andrews's topic in Modern Console Discussion
See, it's my theory that if they (Atari Corp. and Atari Games) had kept up with the classic games in the first place, there wouldn't have been so many splits, sell offs, buy outs, etc. Nintendo showed how to keep up a brand. Jeez, have they come up with anything original since Pokemon? -

Gregory DG replied to carmel_andrews's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Retro is one thing, but what Atari didn't do is continue it's brands. Nintendo took Mario from Donkey Kong, to Mario Bros. to Super Mario Bros. to Mario 64 to Mario Galaxy... Why didn't Atari do that with their brands? Bob's homebrew of "Bentley Bear: Crystal Quest" would have been a nice next step for that character. Who knows what Bentley would be today if Atari had continued that back in 1985? Or look what Activision did with Battlezone back in the late 90's? That first game was great (2nd one not so much) but it shows where a characterless game could go. IMO, that's why Atari keeps failing. Had they moved their brands forward (instead of keeping them essentially the same with better graphics), the fortunes of the company would have been different. -
Praying for you Curt!

Atari Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection
Gregory DG replied to carmel_andrews's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Would love to see a new Atari rise from the ashes. Preferrably with Curt and/or Nolan involved along with many of the former programmers. THEN it would be the REAL Atari coming back! -
Latest video is of them playing Jaguar CD. I don't think they tried with Battlemorph... I don't think they knew you could go underwater or they would have tried it. Looks like they had fun with Highlander though.

When did home computers start showing up on TV shows?
Gregory DG replied to moycon's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
Wow, that clip is remarkably prophetic. Who knew that Ricky Schroder could see the future?! -
Yes! This is the kiosk I remember from my local K-Mart... I remember how cool it was to see all those games and get a chance to try them. Hope to get one (or make one?) someday!
