I cant believe it...The Hyperscan lives on!
Gregory DG replied to swlovinist's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Nope. 5 years later and the thing still doesn't have any 3D hardware! -
Cool, glad to see the old skin back. Feels like a comfortable old jacket... Thanks Al!

The Bit Wars: Was it all BS?
Gregory DG replied to toptenmaterial's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I'd say that bits only really matter when it comes to video. An 8-bit video processor can't address nearly as much memory as a 16 or 32-bit one can. I don't think the processor bits matter as much as the speed of it. Frankly, I'd love to see someone design a totally 8-bit system (processor & video & sound) that kicks ass like say... a PS1. And I think it could be done if the chips were fast enough. That would end the whole bit debate. -
I'll wait to pass judgment. This could be the most awesome game ever, you can't tell much from 3 seconds of gameplay.

Just tried running Atari800Win.exe on 32-bit Windows 7... No luck. I notice the program hasn't been updated in years. So what's the latest and greatest now?
-
This game reminds me a bit of the old Atari type in game called "The Gantlet" (Tried running it for some screenshots, but I guess Atari800Win.exe doesn't work on Windows 7... Grr....) Anyway, you'd go around in these rooms trying to find the exit. It was hard and I don't think I got past room 4!

More Conduit 2 Info Including Multi-Player
Gregory DG replied to Mendon's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
I enjoyed The Conduit, but I never finished it. Maybe I'll get around to it... -
I have a 5200 mostly for completeness. I'd rather play the same games on my 800 XL. Well, except for Adventure II. And Kangaroo. And Missile Command with a super-awesome trak-ball. (Oh, and Centipede.) So, there are a few reasons I like the 5200. The 7800 on the other hand is awesome. Can't go wrong with a console that has a built-in 2600 plus dozens of it's own games (not to mention the new stuff we get on the 7800, homebrews/hacks and stuff.)

Robot Chicken has an Adventure skit too. http://video.adultswim.com/robot-chicken/adventure.html

FYI, the announcer is (or at least was for the original arcade game) legendary Cardinals announcer, Jack Buck. Some of that voice is definitely him, others sounds re-recorded.

ATARI GREATEST HITS coming to Nintendo DS
Gregory DG replied to Rev's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Yeah... That's the unfortunate thing. Many of the games that the 2600 is known for were licensed ports... Space Invaders being one of the biggest. Too bad Atari can't/won't alter the game somehow to release it. -
I thought it was out already?

Anyone been to Disney Quest lately?
Gregory DG replied to Metal Ghost's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I was at Disney Quest this past Wednesday (Dec. 29) as a matter of fact! Took my son for the first time. Got my picture next to the two TRON machines (Discs of TRON and TRON the original game.) I think it's a bit pricey ($42 adult, $37 for kids 3-9) so we stayed the whole day. First thing to go on: The Buzz Lightyear Bumper Cars and the Pirates of the Caribbean boat. Both have long lines. After that, it's not long for anything else. I remember going there about 13 years ago when it opened. Not much has changed really. The most notable difference (to me) is that the remote controlled jeeps under the floor (Treasure of the Incas) are gone and replaced with jungle themed video games. Also the Hercules attraction (which I only vaguely remember) was replaced by the Pirates attraction. Everything else is basically the same, only more video games than I could remember. They're everywhere now and they have practically every classic arcade game you could think of. Wikipedia has a pretty good list of them. The Contemporary arcade is one of the best too! When my friend worked at that hotel we'd go to visit "him" working at the food counter, but what I really wanted to do was play in the arcade. They had a Return of the Jedi machine that I liked. The other great arcade (I think it's still there) is at the exit of Space Mountain. Anyway... Now I need to convert my garage to an arcade... -
I like the Atari red/burgandy/maroon labels. They look really classy to me for some reason. Maybe because they're the same color as the uniforms from the TOS Star Trek movies...
-
I don't think you'll see a Virtual Boy compilation (or individual games either) for the 3DS. Nintendo certainly doesn't want to remind anyone of that huge failure.

Personally, I think the Lynx was Atari's most fun system since the 2600. Very few of the games are total stinkers. The problem was battery life, price, and size. If Atari could have made it smaller & cheaper with a longer battery life, it would have been more successful.
-
Wow, will we really see a completed RPG for the Lynx after 19+ years!? Awesome! Fantabulous work! Hope there's lots of loot and XP to be gained!
-
Wow, someone spent some time on this! But why?
Gregory DG replied to Tubular Gearhead's topic in Auction Central
Couldn't he have at least cleaned the board of cobwebs and dust? -
Damn... I remember at the end of the Dreamcast there were selling for $50 each new. I should have bought 3 or 4 of them back then...
-
The primary "glitch" being that it's about 20x slower than real baseball making the entire game nearly impossible to play. Hopefully Relief Pitcher is faster.
-
COOL! I hope this takes the bad taste out of my mouth left by Baseball Heroes!
-
Good lord, I hope so. Most of the other movies won't increase your geek cred. Lizzie McGuire? Ick.
-
Jeez, the movie is all over the internets. I'll be getting the obligatory TRON/TRON Legacy 2-pak when it comes out next summer.
