  1. Thanks for the link CPUWIZ! WOW! This is really impressive, I want to get my hands on that CD now..after I get my hands on a Supercharger of course.
  2. I'm curious what exactly is the Supercharger? I was looking at the description for Escape from Mindmaster and it says that the game was on a cassette and that it was for the Supercharger. Was it a cassette player that hooked up to the 2600 to play games with improved audio and video? Does anyone have any pics of it? What other games used it?
  3. I'm curious from what I've been reading, it seems to me that during the mid to late 80s when Nintendo re-vitalized the video game industry, it seems to me that Atari was banking more on the 2600 than the 7800. I say this because judging from the ad campaign -- The Fun is Back (2600) vs. We're Re-invented the Video Game (7800), the 2600 definitely had the better and catchier commercials. Also, it seems that the 2600 also had better titles later on in its life such as Road Runner and Secret Quest. Also, I read that Secret Quest was intended to be Atari's answer to NES's Zelda...but if it was meant to be an answer to the NES wouldn't the 7800 have been a more appropriate platform? Although Scrapyard Dog was a decent answer to Mario, it still seems to me that more weight was placed behind the 2600, which is interesting considering that it was outdated technology by then, but it had been Atari's best selling machine. And on a related note, which one do you like better? The 2600, 7800, or both the same?
  4. In the context of the game, I'd still characterize Custer as a bad man just because the overall goal of the game is rape.
  5. I cannot wait to play this game...the screenshots look SWEET!
  6. Yea, I was thinking more along the lines of a Doom type game, which I feel Tunnel Runner is closer to than Night Driver or Pole Position for instance. Since Tunnel Runner just like Doom technically places you within the game, I feel it's more first person than the over the shoulder type. But I know it's a technicality. Anyways, I was just impressed by the VCS.
  7. LOL! I love how they always manage to work in the sexual innuendo wherever they can. Makes the decades that much more memorable. Nice icon by the way.
  8. General Custer is without a doubt a villain. His assaults on Native American villages were a key part of the overall strategy that would later move most Native Americans -- who occupied nearly half of the United States at the time -- into the reservations that they live on till this very day. I cannot see why a man who served such a ruthless and brutal role in this overall strategy of genocide could be regarded as a hero. He is responsible at least for the deaths of 210 Native Americans.
  9. A while back I saw reruns of VH1's I Love the 80s, The 80s Strike Back: 1982, and it had a segment on Colecovision. Did their 70s counterpart do a segment on the 2600? It would be cool to see some original commercials and here what they had to say about it.
  10. Wow excellent ad! What mag is this from (not that I would know anyway)? I didn't realize that CBS used a new chip, wow it did the tricks. I want to check out Wings now. That's what I love about the 2600 it's so simple, yet it never fails to surprise. Such a versatile system.
  11. Nice controllers, but yea your cam sux man, it's all fuzzy. Out of all those controllers which one is your fave? i've never used anything on a 2600 besides the standard joystick or the paddles.
  12. A lil while ago, there was a thread here on which 2600 game had the best graphics, so I decided to download the roms and play most of the titles listed, and there was one gem that I was never aware of until that thread -- Tunnel Runner. WOW! What an awesome game! I would've never thought a first-person game was possible on the 2600, and the graphics blew me away. The simulated movement is pretty convincing and I love the dots, they look very menacing -- and well animated -- as they come toward you. Also, the music that plays as the dots appear is very eerie and cool. Any other fans of this game?
  13. Sounds good! And don't worry a crappy camera is better than my alternative --- a disposable cam and getting my pics on a CD.
  14. This game is awesome! I love the wave effect on the credit screen with the "Go Fish!" It's very smoove! The beginning credit music and the game music is addicting, and it's nice to see a 2600 game with music during gameplay. I had lots of fun playing this game and can't wait for it to come out. I plan on getting my 2600 modded, and getting a new game for the first time in over 8 years. It's new titles like this that have led me to make a comeback. :-)
  15. I'm gonna check Atari2600.com now, I want one!
  16. ATARIPITBULL, I'd love to see pics of your collection.
  17. I was worried as well when I heard about the Flashback 2.0. On the one hand I was pleased because it seems that Infogrames had done it right, the VCS mini replica looked nice, the joysticks are real and detachable, and the games are based on real 2600 hardware, so it will not only look but play like the real thing. But for me personally it won't change a thing. My 2600 has been in the family since it was released, and I plan on keeping it that way. Although I haven't bought a new 2600 game in over 8 years, I plan to start to, and the major push has been this board. I realized that the 2600 is not dead and buried, and with new homebrews and peripherals coming out, it makes it all the more exciting to collect for. I can't wait to get in on all the action. But I agree, they're targetting a different demographic. Most of the people who will buy it are people who once owned a 2600 and want to relive their memories every once in a while, odds are those people wouldn't bother tracking down the original hardware. No matter what we'll still be here.
  18. I'm considering getting the Cybertech S-Video card for my 2600 from Atari2600.com, for those of you who have it, is it worth it? I'd like to breathe some new life into my 2600 by bringing it to the 21st century.
  19. Thanks for the suggestions guys! I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't destroying any valuable antiques by opening them up. I used to get my 2600 games from Radio Shack back in the mid to late 90s, and I guess it was all overstocked stuff because all of the carts were sealed. I remember everyone thought that I was nuts for owning an Atari and trying to get games for it, but once Radio Shack started selling them again, I was a loyal customer. It was so much fun opening them up, it felt like going back in time. Plus, thats why most of my carts look brand-spankin new till this day.
  20. I wanted to know what is the general rule concerning boxed 2600 games. I noticed that several sites offer the option of buying boxed 2600 games, and I wanted to know if it was unethical to actually open them up, since I'm a gamer first (collector second) my main interest is in playing the games. I wanted to get them boxed so I can recreate what it must've felt like to buy a boxed 2600 game and open it up for the first time. I was thinking of keeping the boxes and putting them on my shelf. Or is the general rule to leave boxed 2600 games sealed for future generations?
  21. Wow look at this Bump N Jump, why did it go for so much? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...8178394160&rd=1
  22. Wow! Tunnel Runner is amazing! I had never even heard of the title, and after playing it I couldn't believe it was done on a VCS! Wow the first person perspective was done very well, and the animation on the monster is great. It's very fluid and the ominous music when he approaches adds to the mood. What a cool 2600 game! Wow, this system never ceaes to amaze me :-)
  23. Why is the CV power supply so large, and are there any alternatives to it?
  24. Thanks John! That's exactly the price that I've found it for.
  25. Hey, whats the most I should be paying for an NES console? Thanks! And what is the best place to get one for a good price? eBay?
