Wow the video mod looks hot! I like the LED lights, but I can probably do without so save some extra bucks, the mods are a bit pricey but I think they're worth it. Personally I hate going to the back of the TV and screwing it in. Hmmmm....this is starting to look like a Christmas present

I like the add-ons too, actually I was thinking of getting the Colecovision for the dorm since I can get the VCS expansion pack and have 2 systems in 1, gotta save space when you're in the dorms. Yea, the Opcode games look good, I was blown away. I'm curious which Colecovision games would you consider to be must haves? Also, where would you recommend getting a Colecovision from? Is eBay a good place? I got an Intv off of there a while back and it was pure crap, plus the seller refused to give me a refund, so I want to make sure I get it from a safe source.

Thanks for the link! Those conversions look real good! I'm curious, would you recommend a Colecovision? The only vintage systems that I've owned are the 2600 and the 7800, I've been curious about a Colecovision but it seems to have a few drawbacks that worry me such as the system's large size, the bulky power supply, and faulty power switch. Is it worth it?

Hey, where can I find out about new Colecovision homebrews? I've seen some listed on this site, are there any others? Thanks!

A while back I ordered a pair of used Joysticks from 4Jays and although in hindsight I should've returned them, I noticed than the rubber bottoms were all melted out and every time I play my palms get all black. I'm hoping to invest in some better joysticks soon but I had a few questions. Is this a problem that afflicts all used joysticks? Is there any way to prevent this from occurring? What is the best place online to get good quality joysticks? Is it worth it to plunk down the big bucks for brand new ones? Thanks!

Thanks a lot everyone! Stella works great, and emulation is really a great way to test out games before buying them. I'm a huge fan of platformers so my favorites so far are Smurfs: Rescue in Gargamel's Castle, Montezuma's Revenge, Road Runner, and Keystone Cop. Some other games from different genres that I enjoyed were Pepsi Invaders, Bobby is Going Home, and Plaque Attack. Any must-have 2600 games that you think I should try out, let me know since I'm having a hard time choosing among so many titles. :-)

I've installed the Virtual Colecovision and most of the games seem fine except Smurfs and Frogger. I can't seem to start playing these games, the intro screens load and I can pause the games but I can't start playing them. Do you know if I have to hit some sort of special button or if there's another place where I can get Colecovision ROMs? Thanks! :-)

Thanks Blackjack! I'll try this later tonight during a study break.

Are there any 2600 emulators out there for Windows XP? If so where can I download them from? Do they play the ROMs available on this site? Thanks!

Hey what does "fry" mean?

Hey I'm a newbie on here, so don't mind my modest question. :-) Which is your favorite version of the 2600? I own the woodgrain model with the 4 switches, it was my sister's and my dad was able to preserve it for all these years. I like it except that I wish the controller slots were in the front rather than the back, but in my opinion it has the coolest look. I was thinking of getting my hands on a 2600jr, but I heard they don't hold up as well. Any verdict on this? I know my woodgrain has been through some rough times and fired up perfectly on the first shot

Favorite Non-Atari Classic Consoles
DominiRican05 replied to DominiRican05's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Yea I loved my Genesis, although I also had an SNES, I took the side of the Genesis during the 16 bit war. I don't have it anymore but they're dirt cheap on eBay. What are your favorite Genesis games? I used to love the Disney titles, Mortal Kombat series, and of course Sonic! -
I agree that Atari could've redesigned the 7800, I mean you're right by the time of it's debut the 7800 was already 2 years old out of the box, by redesigning it, Atari could've gone head to head with Nintendo. I mean even the Sega Master System was more powerful than the NES and it faired poorly. But even as it was, I think Atari should've encouraged developers to pull out all the stops, I mean Scrapyard Dog came out in 1990, the Genesis was on the scene by then and Super Mario Bros was released in 84!! That was a late comeback. I've read a bit on the board and it seems that Tramiel was a moron why on earth did he take over Atari? It seems that he had a disdain for videogames. How long was he in charge of Atari? Also why on earth would the 2600 make a comeback in that period? I can see that as a quick scheme to make some big bucks but in the long run it was poison to the 7800.

Hey Everyone, I'm curious what are some of your favorite non-Atari Classic Consoles? My favorites growing up (which are classics now...wow time flies), were the NES, SNES, and the Sega Genesis. I've never tried the Intellivision or Colecovision I'd love to hear your thoughts on those although they look like they had some strange controllers....

Thanks for the recommendations :-) I look forward to playing all of those. These are the 7800 games that I owned: Scrapyard Dog Karateka Pole Position II Donkey Kong Donkey Kong Jr. One-On-One Basketball (Larry Bird & Dr. Jay) I thought Scrapyard Dog was a lot of fun, but I admit that Louie makes a far uglier hero than the cute Mario, lol, what was Atari thinking with that huge nose? The graphics though were top notch. Karateka looked nice, but as a kid used to Mortal Kombat, I thought the gameplay was horrible and alittle tough on the hands. Pole Position II was a huge improvement over Pole Position I, it was a good start for the 7800, too bad Atari never went too far beyond that. DK and DK Jr. were classics so what else is there to say? :-) One-on-One Basketball was fun, I used to love shattering the glass and having the maintenance man come in and start "cursing." Priceless! What is the verdict on Mario Bros?

I've been reading on here, and I'm surprised that Atari was being so cheap. I think that some other things that would've helped would've been if they discontinued the 2600, although I love the 2600 and it was their number 1 system, Atari should've focused their energies on the 7800, plus by that time period the 2600 was over a decade old and hence outdated technology. I also think that Atari should've invested time and money on the 7800 and they should've followed the lead of the NES, there are so many good games that could've been released for the 7800 but instead Atari just rehased arcade classics which were looking very outdated by the late 80s. Still I look forward to bringing back my 7800, it'll be fun and it plays all 2600 games, plus I have high hopes for this homebrew contest!

I can't wait to hear your announcement Shaggy! I look forward to it. My feeling playing the 7800 back in the mid-90s was that it seemed to be a pretty limited machine until I played Scrapyard Dog and then I started thinking, why didn't Atari make more Super Mario-esque sidescrollers like did? I thought Scrapyard Dog was a good start...hopefully some of you homebrewers out there can make this come true

I am glad to see that the 2600 has a large amount of homebrew games that have been released in recent years. Although it may sound weird, but that's one of the things I take into consideration when investing in a vintage system, I like to know that they're still alive. :-) So I'm curious why hasn't anyone tackled the graphically superior 7800? I bet you could make some great homebrews with that and utilize it to its potential something that wasn't done during its lifetime. What do you think? Also, does the 7800 play the 2600 homebrews?

Hey everyone, I'm new to the board, and I'm trying to get more acquainted with the 7800. I actually owned one back in the day...back in the day being the late 90s when Radio Shack started reselling Atari products through their mail order catalogn. :-) Currently my 7800 requires repair and I'm debating whether or not to get it fixed. I remembered getting bored of it pretty quickly and opting for my SNES and Genesis at the time. I did enjoy some of the games, particularly Scrapyard Dog and the Donkey Kong series. The rest of my titles were 2600 ones which I found more amusing for some reason, although my main focus then was graphics :-) So I'd like to know if the 7800 has a decent amount of "good" games before opting to get it fixed. I've read good things about Ballblazer, Food Fight, and Mario Bros...any others? Which are the must have games for the 7800?
