I tweaked a few of the sounds for the background music and changed the Hammer music a little. Here is a video of the slight sound changes and showing off the Collision Detection Fix. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7S0fx8ZY7M Here is a video of the "Elevators Level" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsB4Km2s1zE Here is a Video of the "Cement Factory Level" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ij9jZikUlt8

Perfectly stated!!! I **LOVE** the A8 Donkey Kong. I guess it's because I grew up with it, but it's pretty much a kick-ass conversion even if I hadn't. Mario does seem to move a little faster in the A8 version, and I prefer it that way. A8 Donkey Kong is not only one of the few that has the 4th screen, but it's also one of the few where the barrels bounce when they drop. I find the [youtube video] to be interesting, but I'm of the opinion that the original Landon Dyer sound effects being perfect, and the game really not in need of improvement. Still, I'm glad to see a hack too. I've had the "real" deal on MAME for years and years but I find myself grabbing an A8 and cartridge to get most of my Donkey Kong fixes, anyway. As I said Earlier, Landons original version Is awesome. This was just something to update the sound, Put the Intro (kong bending the girders) in the right place, and also to fix the bug of mario getting hit by rolling barrels above him. I did the Music and Effects in RMT and Fandal Implemented them for me. fandal also wrote the code for the collision Detection Fix with Marios head. tep392 (Perry) did the code fix to move the Intro animation to the start of a game rather than as a "screen saver" type thing in the title screen. When it came to the sound I had to judge what to do concerning the limitations of the pokey. after all as Perry pointed out to me, the arcade used Triangle wave generators instead of Square wave generators like the pokey has. so it was hard to get a smooth low bass and keep the ability for certain high frequencies in the pure tone generator. I also had to make a judgement call for marios "Walk" sound. When I tried to make it more like the arcade "Squeak" type noise, the pokey made it sound more like a wet "Drip" Noise instead. So as a solution I duplicated the Colecovision Walk sound instead. I always thought the coleco had a pretty good "walk" sound effect anyway. =) Because of all the work that he put into this (and it was a LOT of work), Fandal Gets a royalty off of every cart that is sold. =)

Mystery board on Atari 800XL mother board
Kjmann replied to rchennau's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Well I don't know what that board is, but RAMROD was not a RAM upgrade. It was an OS switcher with OSNXL, FastchipXL AND OmnimonXL. RAMBO was a 256k RAM upgrade. -
Not a bad Idea Steve. I asked someone to look into that since you mentioned it. =) If all goes well, It might be a reality in a couple days.

Just FYI for all you people that were concerned with Blaster on my website. I have a letter from Eugene Jarvis Thanking me for "keeping the Blaster Cart alive in the 8-bit Atari format" He has no problem with my producing it.

I think the bass needs to be lower (if that's even possible), it sounds too high. Tempest I tried to get the bass as low as I could. The problem is that, any lower and it starts to sound dirty/metallic.

If this is true please stop selling it immediately. Blaster was only provided to the community under the express condition that it not be sold for profit. By doing so you are violating the trust that Eugene put in the community. Tempest I didn't get blaster from here. In fact none of the games on my site were acquired from the atari age forums. I have three private sources that I get the games from. none of them are related to atari age or any other discussion forum.

LOL. I'm not even sure how to get a hold of him. although I would love to just BS with him for a while. after reading his "Dad Hacker" pages, I would love to pick his brain and just listen to him talk about his Atari experiences (among other things he has done). Don't get me wrong. Landons Original version was awesome, but we thought the sound deserved an upgrade and we really needed to fix the collision detection on Marios head. it was too easy to jump and get killed during the Barrels Level. especially at the top of the screen on the level below kong, just before you climb that last ladder. =) In the original arcade, the top half of Marios head is not affected by passing barrels. I think you can get ahold of him through his webpage there. He also frequents these forums from time to time. You might want to get his blessing before selling this. Although he has no legal ownership of it, he did write it and it would be considered a common courtesy to ask first. Tempest Yeah. I did check. there is no email link or otherwise there. I don't think Landon will care. After all he did release the DK source code as a download on his page for anyone who wanted it. =)

We Just Finished updating this game. We Replaced ALL the Sounds and Music. =) We Also Fixed the Collision Detection so Mario can not hit his head on barrels that are above him as easily. Click here to see a YouTube Video of the game in Action.

Here is the Correct one. =)

Ok, I made a few more Changes. Fixed the Vibrato in the Solos. The old one was too Harsh. I also took out the Abrupt Cut of the main instrument in the main part of the song. It seemed too Staccato. I felt it kept the song from "Flowing" like it should. EDIT: oops, made a mistake. see next post.

Here is a new version. I have tweeked the instruments a bit more and fixed some rhythm problems. This may be the final version. =)

One of our near future plans is to re-Release Spy Hunter with a new Music Track (I personally thought the original one sucked). in fact we are currently working on the same thing in donkey kong (That should be done soon.) I just thought I would post the spy hunter music we will be using for this project and see what everyone thinks. =) Please note that the song is done in three channels (Drums and Bass are combined in channel one) to allow the SFX to remain in the game. =)
-
We are still working on it. TJ is a very busy guy (Job, Family and So forth) so I try to put to much pressure on him. =) as soon as he sends me something I will post a new video. =)

Could be similar to what happened to fandal with xenophobe. the person fandal bought xenophobe from had someone else phantom bidding against him. hence the $2500.00 price that fandal ended up paying for it.

Is there any way to play Midi-Maze on a real Atari?
Kjmann replied to Allan's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Yes. There is also an option for that.
