This Version Runs On Standard 64k and will activate features such as VBXE and Stereo Pokey IF it sees them. otherwise it will run using just single pokey or Standard GFX. Cartridges are pretty much the same price with or without these features
Also, This Was by no means a bunch of small changes. this was a serious overhaul from Tempest Xtreem. new Graphics. New Digital Voices. New Line Routines and more.
A Digital Dowload Will NEVER be available. we will just not do it. we've stated this many times before and If we lose a customer due to this, we really don't care.
I will talk to pete about the Music On/Off Selection. that is a reasonable option in my opinion.

That's a Good Question. Where are you getting the ground from?
And yes, Screen shots would help.
-
I tried tantalum capacitors In the first designs of this upgrade and had bad luck with them. the cap you use needs to be a one way cap also.
-
The red cable is connected to luma via the 75 ohm resistor and to chroma via the capacitor. Cable shielding is soldered to ground (under the tape). Isn't that right?
OK the problem is the cap. it MUST be an electrolitic Capacitor and MUST be 22uF.
This Should Solve quite a bit of the ghosting problem.
Also Did You Cut The Traces that I marked in Picture "B"
Never Mind I forgot those were for the switch if you used it.
-
OK, I tried it with completely shielded luma and chroma cables now and soldered all the components under the aluminium hood.
But it's only a very little bit better now. Still shadows, still washed out colors on the screen.
Anyway, I think it's not bad idea to do it like this. But a better composite signal would still be appreciated.
Check this (sorry for the bad picture):

This Doesn't look Right to me. Let me look at my original Directions.

I forgot who wrote the other Sierra one.

Edit: Oops, Already Answered.

Hooray! I just got my first Atari 400 (NTSC) in very good condition! And it works! What a beauty!
But what I need is Composite Video. I cannot use S-Video. I'd like to modify as little as possible. Do I really have to cut the two tracks? Magic Knight wrote that it is not necessary for S-Video. Why should it be necessary for Composite? Could you please explain what you did, KJmann? Or did anybody else try Composite without cutting the tracks? Thanks for any answer....
Bern
Just connect the Chroma and Luma together and run the chroma signal with NO resistance (Full Strength).

The resistor ladder values are chosen to generate a proper range of voltage levels without overloading the CMOS driver. They are not chosen for directly driving a 75 ohm video load. That's why the transistor amplifier is there. We can usually get away with improper source impedances when driving short video cables, but ghosting and other artifacts will become apparent on longer ones.
Ah I see. Makes Sence. thanks Bryan. I was not aware of those facts.

Well, I managed to do this mod tonight without destroying my 400 (though I thought that I might have for a bit, as I couldn't get the mod to work with a 5-pin DIN as I had planned). The colors don't look quite right to me playing Q*Bert, but that may just be my imagination (I should compare it to the colors from the RF output, except that means I would have to open everything up again to reattach the cable).
Anyway, I'm happy with the mod. Even if the colors are off (which may not be the case), it's certainly better than staticky, fuzzy RF.
Hi There. I just noticed this thread.
as far as the 400 goes the resistors that you put in are to help boost the luma signals coming out of the atari. but because they are are all linked, the resistor values that you use will always effect the other luma levels.
Example:
Changing the resistor on Luma 1
Will effect (Due to feedback through it's own resistor) the the resistance of Luma 0 and Luma 2.
this will cause the colors to look wrong if they are too far off. hence forth you may get too dark or too light of some colors making it look funny.
the resistor that I came up with are the closest Resistors I could find that were Readily Available at most component houses to make the picture look as accurate as I could. although they may be off a bit.
This was always a problem with the 400 and 5200.
the idea with this upgrade was to find a way to make the luma brighter without having to add a 3904 transistor to amp the signal. the circuit already had plenty of brightness, but for some reason atari put some heavy resistors on it and then chose to amp it up again after the fact. Wierd idea in my opinion.

We Will be converting our Venture game for the 8-bit to the 5200 as soon as we have worked all the bugs out and relased the 8-bit version.
-
I'd like one.
PM Sent to Candle.

This Project is still alive, but slow going.

We have a dilemma. Some People have said that the game is not difficult enough.
We have put in a challenger mode for the game but we are running out of space in the 32k cart. (the Cart must be 32k or less to do a 5200 release)
So we have a choice:
A) leave the game the way it is and not add a new Map or new rooms to the game which will keep the standard mode for the purists out there.
OR
B) we can dump the Standard Mode and make this game a more challenging Venture (Pun intended) overall with a new map, new baddies and new obstacles.
Vote using the Poll here. I won’t answer comments or questions in public here.

First off leet me begin by saying that I will not answer questions or Discuss anything here in the public forum. This post is strictly for information for the Atariage Community Concerning our release of Venture.
1. The 5 venture carts that were sold recently For The 8 Bit were not supposed to be sold at all. there was some basic miscommunication with lance at video 61 and he released them by accident. No Problem there, but due to the bugs that were in those versions, Lance is offering Exchanges on those 5 for the official release if those people wish to due so when they are available.
2. There will be NO digital releases. Ever.
3. Our Plan is to release Venture Jointly with Lance at Video61 and Al through the AtariAgae Store. The Atari 8 Bit Version Will Be First. So Basicly We Want AtariAge (Al) To Manufacture the Carts and any other Materials (Boxes, Manuals, Etc) For us and Lance will simply carry those in his store as well as Al Having them Available in the AA Store.
4. We Are Planning on a 5200 Release.
5. Fear Not Venture enthusiests, we are working on more things to increase the difficulty in Challanger Mode. Perhaps an Extra Never Before Seen Level. You never know. LOL
If there are any basic questions Concerning Venture, I can be PM'd here on Atari Age. I will not respond to open discussion on The Forums.
Thak you all. I hope this answers some of your questions.
=)

I have Mirrored Rasters RMT site.
Here are the domains:

They will be active in a couple of hours.
Rest in Peace Raster. you were a good soul and a great musician.

A feature I would like to see is an ability to save the palette settings you make, as a file and be able to reload them when wanted.

Rather than you waiting for me, this is the fix by Jürgen on the ABBUC forums for Megamax carts that Rybags linked to a few pages back. The Megamax works like the "problem" Maxflash carts, and Jürgen left in the stuff that makes it work on the normal Maxflash carts - So it should work with all Maxflash carts as well. I've attached a programming image here too.
Just checked it on one of the carts that's going to get reprogrammed, works perfectly! :-)
Steve
No it doesn't. Sorry Chris. This version Crashes during stage 2 Every time.
-
I'm sorry to see people complaining this much. considering that Chris(sheddy) is giving away the rom and Source for free I don't understand where someone has the right to bitch this much. I'm even selling the game in my store (because of steves sale price) for only $39.95. What more can people ask for?
I say "Thank you Chris for this awesome game. I was proud to be a part of it and I hope to see something else from you in the future"

And a colon or dash before "Get Ready" in the title would be nice...

Anyway: I almost forgot to say what I was intending to post about. UK readers: check out this week's "Micro Mart" for a nice write-up by Shaun on the Space Harrier release.
I fixed the Spelling Error and the Random Caps. Sega themselves didn't use a Hyphen or Colon. they used a comma just like I did.
-
Here is The back of the XE box That I did for Space harrier.
Edit: Typos and random caps fixed.

Kjmann's S-Video upgrade revisited - Atari 400
in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Posted · Edited by Kjmann
Since S-Video is no longer available on most new TV's I experimented with some of the suggestions in this thread and came up with this.....
Simple, But seems to work well for me. seems to eliminate the shadowing quite a bit.
