Merry Christmas Everyone. =)

Thanks. I use 4 Different Games To Set the Colors By. I use these when I'm Retrofitting an XL with the S-Video Kit that I sell. Since I include new Power supplies with all the systems I always have to re-adjust Hue Step Pot in the XL. So I decided to use the same 4 games to adjust Altirra. 1 - John Harris version of Frogger (Look at the Very Top Logs. they should be Dark Brown With a Very Slight Green Tint on Them and the Time Line At the Bottom should be Red.) 2 - Pole Position (Look At the Sky It should be an almost Periwinkle Blue. a little Darker and toward the green side from sky blue.) 3 - Pac-Man (On The Menu, The "Press Select for 2 player game" and Etc should be a good solid Light Green and the word "Select" A Solid "Pac-Man" Yellow) 4 - DropZone (The Ground Should be a Good Solid Brown just before the point of Turning Red)

I Really Like This Emulator. it's been a great tool for testing and Doesn't do a Bad job playing games either. I of course will always be partial to the Real Hardware. =) After playing with the Color Adjust settings for quite a while I Think I have come up with some settings that are really close to a Real NTSC Machine (I'm not Sure about PAL because I've never owned a PAL Machine). I'm Very Picky about my color settings so I spent the time and thought everyone else would benefit from knowing what I came up with. =) Here are my settings for the "Adjust Colors" selection under the "System > Video" pull down menu. Hue Start: -50 Hue Step: 27.5 Brightness: -4% Contrast: 100% Saturation: 30% Artifacting Phase: 189 Artifacting Saturation: 200% Artifacting Brightness: +10% Hope this helps. =)

this is also true of a real XL/XE... i have done it, ran an XE without the PIA installed, accidentally tho... if the OS select is managed in another way, then the the machine would work tho... you wouldnt be able to use the directionals on the joysticks as mentioned, but the joystick buttons, and the keyboard would be fine... sloopy. Hmmm. I thought Pokey Handled the Joysticks.

Try Using Ram Chips From a 600XL. (4416's) Those Should Work
-
Yeah john, your work is the reason that I decided to pursue this further. =) I Do an S-Video Upgrade in Every System that I get in Stock for the Store and More Times than not, Cutting the Connections doesn't seem to make a difference. I've done nine 800XL's and four 600XL's in the last 6 months. Only on three of the 800XL's did it make a difference. I'll Go Back and Check My notes, maybe this has a Common Element. Perhaps the 3 boards that it made a difference on were the same motherboard revision? To Solve this Problem I added a Switch assembly to my S-Video Upgrade Board. the Switch Gives two Different Strengths of the chroma Signal. one is a about 95% and the other is about 65%. When The Switch is Set to %65 Chroma Signal Strength, LCD's Look Way Better and the Vertical Banding All But Disappears. Even the color is nice and Rich. But, When a System is on a CRT, The Colors Tend to look a little Washed out. Switching to The 95% Strength Signal seems to make a huge difference. Also When Using an S-Video to Composite Adapter, the Different chroma Signal also need adjusting. you need the 95% Setting for this otherwise you get Green and Red Shadows on your Graphics. Although, due to the many differences in motherboards over the years and the different results that people get like you were talking about john, I still include in the instructions for clipping of the 2 components that connect the signals in the circuit. =)

I've been doing a lot of work on this in the past month or so and have come to a couple of conclusions. 1 - Vertical Banding has a lot to do with how strong the chroma signal is. it seems that the stronger the chroma signal the more vertical banding you get. Although this doesn't seem to be a "Chroma Bleeding in to the Luma Circuit" Issue. In Fact Severing the Contact between the Chroma and Luma Circuits (the connections used for Composite Video) Doesn't seem to make any difference at all. 2 - CRT's have this Problem to a Much Smaller Degree versus LCD's. The Banding is More Apparent on LCD monitors than on CRT's. In Fact, On most CRT Monitors with S-Video Inputs the banding is Definitely lighter and sometimes Non-Existent.

Well, there is a BIG difference between Abbuc Awards and Abbuc Software Contest. Abbuc Awards are given away to any kind of Atari-related programs (even demos, musics, graphics/pictures or Atari-related tools on the PC) - but all you get is an award on paper (usually send per e-mail) and no money !! In the Abbuc Software Contest however one can win monetary prizes of up to 500 Euro (sometimes even more) and therefore we have rules, which we don`t have for Abbuc awards. In fact, after several years of Abbuc Software Contest the idea came up to also give away awards to Atari related programs which normally do not have a chance to take part in the contest or to win any monetary prize. Of course SH could (and surely would!) win an Abbuc award, but as said before (since MetalGuy was talking about the Abbuc Software Contest) it would not have a chance to take part in the contest, because the BIN/ROM of SH cannot be run from Abbuc disk-magazine and SH is using copyrighted or tm material (the name, the figures, etc.)... -Andreas Koch. AH! I see. I didn't know there were two different contests. Thanks for clearing that up Andreas. =) -Boxes/Packaging- That would be up to Mark if he wanted to offer that option for this project. that would be very cool. I would gladly provide the High Resolution Artwork for him if Mark would do it. =)

We will Be Selling Space harrier on Cart for $44.95 usd. That means we will be covering the packing materials, Label, Toner, and the cost of the cart with about $6 to spare (which we would still like to send to sheddy) =). Of course the binary will be free which was sheddy's intention from the beginning. we are only selling this for people who would like it on a cart and don't want to go to the trouble or spend the money to buy the equipment required to make their own cart. (ex: SIO2PC or Cartridge programmer + Blank Cart + Laser Printer and Label Material). -Packaging- Marc Oberhäuser makes Great Packages. In Fact they're just downright Awesome, but the reason we didn't do it for tempest is that the Packages were very expensive. about 11 euro a box. That translates to about $15.00 a piece. that would have brought the price of tempest to $65 dollars. that's too high. and that is for INK JET Printed boxes. Laser printed would have been about 1000 euros per 300 boxes (Minimum Order). These were quotes directly from mark. -Sega's Concern- They Don't care! Period. We have asked them on a couple of occasions about producing games on the 8-bit platform (OutRun for Example). their response is that they consider the 8-bit a DEAD PLATFORM. So Projects of this kind are not a concern to them. Namco and Nintendo have given us Similar Responses to our queries. especially Since the amount of sales do not amount to enough to bother wasting the money to come after this kind of project. -ABBUC- We Won "Best Game 2009" for Tempest Xtreem. Why Couldn't Space Harrier win? By the way. on a quick note... Merry Christmas (Or Happy Holidays) To Everyone here. I kind of noticed that this get lost in the shuffle in discussion forums at this time of the year. =)

In the Case of your Unit, it looks as though someone removed the cord holder Piece from the bottom. the ones with the four tabs were removable. if you look closely you can see the holes where the clips from the cord holder are supposed to clip in to the case.
