I just received a Rev F HxC2001 floppy emulator and have mounted it in an SF354 external drive case.
Grey-painted HxC2001 mounted in a dremel-modified Atari SF354 enclosure. #ST by blakespot, on FlickrI have an orig 520ST with no internal drive. It's all wired up and powered up but I get not drive activity when booting. I got the ST Manager archive and pulled the HXCSDFE.CFG and AUTOBOOT.HFE from there and put it on the SD card (4GB) with some games in a GAMES/ dir. I have set 8-switch DIP to all possible settings for HxC as drive A: or A: and B: both twisted cable and normal. I never see the track indicator move.
When I first booted with no files on SD card, I got an error saying no HXCSDFE.CFG file, and I see the contents of that file have changed since I manually chose a game to load with the front buttons.
Any ideas on how to get this working? Thanks.

My original 520ST has no internal drive connector. Is it possible to out this in an SF314 / SF354? Or is this not possible?
Thanks.

I have an early, proper 520ST with no internal drive and I want to mount an HxC2001 in one of the external floppy drives. Has anyone done this? Is the proper power there, etc?
Thanks.

Is anyone offering Turbo Forth cartridges, ready to go? Thanks.

All of the guides I see for hacking firmware on a PSP-1001 (one of the first) are 5 years old. I also see forum posts talking about hacked firmware using firmware versions more recent than those guides speak of.
So, here in 2013 -- what is the drill to getting a PSP-1001 running homebrew? I am interested in emulation.
Can someone point me to a solid guide? Thanks so much. Been looking for hours now, to no real avail.
Thanks.

There is absolutely no issue with releasing an emulator on the App Store. The previous release of iMame was not pulled by Apple because it was an emulator (something they would have clearly seen during the approval process). It was pulled at the request of the MAME dev team, who don't approve of unsupported MAME builds as they are the ones who get hounded by questions when problems arise. Also, the Xcode project used for that release was taken, modified and posted without permission.
I am aware of many emulator-wrapped titles that have long been in the App Store. Many of them I have reviewed on my site. It has been my impression, though, that the issue with iMAME was the fact that users could "sideload" ROMs into the app and use it in ways beyond what was approved by Apple.

This should start a run on iCades again. Such a cool little solution for the casual gamer.
It won't be here long...

Does this mean the ability to load additional ROMs is still there?
Yes. Read our forum thread (in the post) for the drill.

It won't be there long, I'm sure, but an open ver of MAME4iOS for iPhone, iPad (free) is now in the App Store.
Act fast...

do you have an external drive for the ST?
If you do you could set up the HxC as drive 2 on the ST and copy from SD card.
I do, but the HxC is basically physically attached to my Amiga in a way that I am not about to alter.
Tnx

I need to write an ST disk image out to floppy to work on my 520ST.
I do not have a Windows or DOS PC with a 3.5-inch floppy drive.
Machines that do have 3.5-inch floppies in this room:
- Several Amigas (networked)
- NeXTstation Turbo (networked)
- Mac Plus (networked)
- Apple Lisa 2
- Apple IIgs (networked)
- Apple IIe
Is there any way I can write out a SS or DS ST floppy with these units?
I will order a KryoFlux one day, it could handle this. Yea, I may add an HxC2001 to the ST one day -- my Amiga 2000 has one.
Thanks.

Is the SM125 phosphor as nicely "blue" shaded (un-warm) as the SM124?
bp

So, what's the difference between these two screens? I've owned an SM124 in the past, circa 1987.

I have the JVC in use. (I have a Goldstar on the shelf, also.)

From the seller of that 520ST+
hito be honest i'm not 100% sure if it is PAL i guess it is as it works on a UK TV etc
the external PSU is 220v so you could if you had a USA 110/117v version swap the PSU's but i can't guarantee if it will work on any TV connection via the RF modulator
it will work via a monitor though
hope this helps
let me know if you need any more info

Rupert
I am in the US with NTSC screen. Is this a PAL unit likely?

Huh... I guess it's a PAL unit, 220v -- would not work well with my NTSC screen and such, here in the states. Right? Nasty case / keyboard on that, but I could swap it into the pristine 520ST case I have here for my 512K unit.

MIDI Atari ST action -- but what is that closest to the dude? Looks like a Falcon keyboard in a big Sam Coupe-shaped enclosure. What's going on?

Back in the day a local engineer type performed the 512K upgrade on my 520ST by soldering the chips UNDER the motherboard, to reduce heat. He bent every pin upwards to make the proper contact. Eventually it started to bug out due, presumably, to hairline cracks in the legs. I took it back to the Games 'n' Gadgets where I bought it and they replaced it for me and sent that unit back to Atari.
They must've given a double-take when they saw that board...

How hard is it to get this done? Are there kits floating around? I like the form-factor of the early 520ST and want to take it to 1MB (as opposed to grabbing a 1040 or something).
Thanks.

I am looking for an Atari SM-124 mono display in nice quality.
Anyone got one to let go? Thanks.

Yes, the photo above is not how it's plugged in. I have flipped the Atari interface board, so the ribbon cable is in reverse orientation vs. the photo, there. So, not the problem, it seems.
